View Full Version : October Toddlers
I don't know how much I have to say but will get us started before chaos breaks out and I disappear for a bit. We were a very quiet bunch last month, although I suspect most, like me, were only quiet online and IRL had lots of noise and activity with our active and crazy toddlers.
Me: Lorien, 34
DH: 37
DS: Ben, 28 1/2 months
DD: any day now
Our carpet was finally installed last Friday so furniture is finally up and mostly arranged in both kids' rooms. Amazing what a difference it makes in pulling the whole room together. And we're very pleased at how soft it feels - we didn't get the absolute cheapest stuff but pretty darn close - it's great!
We really didn't want Ben's transition to a toddler bed to coincide with the new baby's arrival but when I went to get him this morning, he had scaled about halfway up the bars with his feet and was kind of hanging. Granted, he was told me that he could get his blanket and dog out of the crib "but not myself" but he looked pretty close to me and I'd hate to have him fall out over the bars. Which also means we need to get a gate for the top of the stairs in case he starts wandering at night -- any recommendations? I haven't looked at what's available since before he was born.
Except for swimming, he is loving his classes (especially gymnastics) and being at the Y. I'm really glad we decided to do that with him. It's just so nice having everything in one place. And when we're ready for it, they have preschool and before/after school care with transportation to our town schools. Aways off but still nice to know about.
And last, he is superexcited about his baby sister coming. We ended up picking a stuffed elephant for him to give her. He's enjoying poking and shaking my belly, as well as giving her hugs and kisses at bedtime or when the spirit moves him. I can only hope it lasts once she's more of a reality to him.
What's everyone else up to?

Hi Lorien!
Me: Terri, 37
DH: Dan, 38
DS: Joey, 28 mos
DS: John-Paul, 14 mos
First of all, sending you wishes for a safe and easy delivery of a healthy baby girl! I am jealous..hope I get my girl someday. :) (I got to hold an 8 week old baby girl today..I fell in love).
And now I am telling you that you're scaring me about the crib-climbing. I am so not ready for Joey to leave the crib. He is a good climber (last week he was on TOP of his big cozy coupe car) but I don't think it has occurred to him to climb out of the crib, and I was hoping it would stay that way for a LONG time. I guess I better start thinking about a bed, at least.
Other than that, things are happy but not exciting in our house. I'm not sure if I'm considering JP a toddler yet since he still isn't walking (he turned 14 mos yesterday). He crawls and climbs like crazy but doesn't seem to want to stay on his feet!
I'm sure I'll think of more to say later....
Terri
I can't believe JP's 14 months already! Where has the time gone?
Until the other day, Ben didn't seem at all interested in climbing out of the crib either. And he hasn't done it since so maybe we have a bit of a reprieve. As you said, I'm not at all ready for him to be able to roam free. I know it's coming soon but figured it would be more our deciding to graduate him rather than being forced into it by his climbing out. His crib does convert so we at least don't have to buy anything new at this point (were able to borrow a crib for the baby).

I figured I am outed in the TTC thread I might as well out myself here too ;)
Well, IUI #5 was a success!! What makes me especially happy was that there were no drugs involved. What surprised me is that I am already feeling tired and I honestly thought I was going to get sick at tumbing last week. I remember things hitting at 6 weeks with Madeleine, not 4.
Madeleine is doing well and potty accidents are few and far between. I also notice that she goes longer now, between potty trips. Used to be every hour. Now when I ask her I get 'I just went mommy!'
Mulling over the toddler bed situation here and if I could find where I put the parts (from packing up during the remodel) then she would have been in a toddler bed this weekend. She has been trying to climb into her bed at night. I am just waiting for her to realize she can do it in reverse.
Meals still continue to be a challenge in the sense it is still taking her forever to eat. I have tried giving her a warning and then taking the pate away and she seems OK with that. She eats what is on her plate she is just taking forever to do it.
We went shopping for a Halloween costume last weekend and she decided she wants to be an elephant (compete with arm acting as the trunk; noise included). We gave her a choice of 4 or 5 aminals and she zeroed right in on the elephant.
That's about all I have from here. Need to grab lunch and try to sneak out for a blood test.
Congratulations Maria!!! That is fantastic! I've been lurking on the TTC thread but haven't been there in a bit so hadn't seen your news. I'm really happy for you and wish you the best. Hey, if the sickness started earlier this time around, maybe it will end earlier too. ;)

Hello everyone! I'll start with a picture. This was taken at a pumpkin patch this weekend. He was in a corn box (with corn instead of sand). He is literally saying "I eat it?" Um, no

We had a big road trip a few weekends ago that went well, although it took about 3 more hours than we thought it would. I just have to say, how did people do this without DVD players. James just watched Elmo and Mickey Mouse clubhouse over and over. He had climbed out of a play pen, but settled down for this trip. Yay! We actually went to a wedding, and who thought this was a good idea? Toddlers at a wedding? It was outside, and I just felt we couldn't get far enough away! The dancing was fun though.
James has been in a mood lately, and I am blaming it on his last two molars coming in. He has just been really whining with lots of temper tantrums. I mean, really, he has a meltdown because I am not going to let him drive? I am really not going to let him drive!
Still not sure what we are going to be for Halloween. I should do that soon!

Hey everyone! Maria, congratulations!!!
Michael has his first ear infection of the season. He's got tubes so at least this time it was easy to figure out since there was goop coming out of his ear. We went to the doc and she gave him antibiotics (which I realized he hasn't been on in an entire year - hurrah!) and ear drops. man oh man does he hate the eardrops. He also had a terrible cough so we are doing nebulizer treatments again. I am really hoping we don't have to do them every day like we did at the beginning of the year. the doc says she hopes that since he is bigger we won't have to, but we'll have to see. I guess I'd rather do the daily neb than having recurring sickness!
Potty training is not going well. Michael knows when he has gone, maybe even knows when it is happening, but basically refuses to let it out when sitting on the potty. We have not been diligent about him sitting on the potty at home, but they are at daycare, and I got reprimanded for it last week. oh well!
otherwise, not much else to report. I got a Dragon halloween costume at old navy and hope that Michael will actually wear it! We are going to the pumpkin patch on Thursday for a day care field trip, so that should be fun.
have a great day everyone!
