Is anyone here using the website? I bought the sensor thing and have been using it the last couple weeks, which is kind of fun way to geek out my runs. The website seems to have a ton of tools, and could be a huge time suck if I let it. :o Just curious what features others enjoy, and if you're doing it solo or with a team/friends.

I went through two of them and both died early. Tried to get the second one covered under the apple warranty and it never came in (or they never called me). I did enjoy it while it worked but never got it calibrated right (track was always busy)
The best part is the challenges you can join.
bought a garmin 305 at the rei sale last may. I love it. I am a gadget person so it works for me.

I'm on my 2nd and love it although I don't remember to use it as often as I should and probably don't use it to it's full potential (ie. challenges, etc.). I love being able to track my progress
I do wish you could just change the battery though. My 1st one died just short of the 1 year warranty and I had lost the receipt. I was told at the Apple store where I bought my 2nd one that if it died before 1 year to bring it in with my original receipt and they'd give me a new one.

Very cool! Maybe my next shoes need to be Nikes!

Your shoes don't have to be Nikes to use it. I have this (http://lacelid.com/) from lacelid that connects the sensor to my Brooks running shoes.

Oh, great! Of course, it was not at all obvious from the Nike website that you didn't have to have Nike shoes.
So. Why would I order an 8-pack? I can see having a couple of different pairs of shoes, but...do they wear out routinely? They are certainly much cheaper that I would've guessed.
And, how hard is it to set up/calibrate?
Thanks!

Megan,
They're actually very easy to set up, calibrate, and use. I love mine, although I only use the website to track my run progress, not for anything else.
In fact, you don't even have to calibrate it. You can just plug it in and go. But you're likely to get more accurate distance and pace info if you actually calibrate it to your stride.
I am on my second one. My first one lasted two years, and then I lost the receiver part. :o But at $30 apiece, I don't find them terribly expensive to replace every couple of years when they do wear out.

You can order 1 lacelid for $4.95, I only have 1 and have never had a problem with it.
I know some people have had issues calibrating it but I haven't. I just went to the track and so far so good. There are some discussions about it on Runners World.

Issues with the act of calibrating, or issues with the accuracy of data? Because IME, the accuracy will depend a lot on how even your stride is. Even straight out of the box without calibrating, the accuracy for me is almost dead on. I used it several years ago during a 10K race, and I would check it against each mile marker I passed - it was very precise. DH, on the other hand, is a very "uneven" runner and his stride varies a lot with each step. When he & I run together, our devices record widely different distances, like 10-15%.

Aggie - Oh sure, miss efficient runner rubbing it in! ;-) I have an extremely uneven stride and DH teases me about it incessantly!
I rec'd a Nike+ as a gift, but don't have the right kind of MP3 player to use with it :-( I'm thinking of making the jump over to iTunes (vs mp3), but really want a Shuffle instead of a Nano b/c I won't need a holder for the player. What's a girl to do?
I saw an ad for the San Antonio R&R Marathon the other day. Are you still doing that race? I think you were looking at the Half

Nope, not this year. DH got hurt and has not been running, so it's been hard for me to keep motivated on my own. I've been treadmill running throughout the summer (not more than about 6 miles though) and now that the weather has cooled off, I am back to outdoor runs and trying to get in at least 3x/week, 4-6 miles each time. But SA is not in the cards for this year, not to mention lodging was outrageously expensive when I looked. I might do Phoenix in January - we'll see. And possibly even the full again.

Not only does DH have an uneven stride, but he can't keep a steady pace either. When I do run with him (which is not for long since he's much faster than me), he is constantly slowing down, speeding up, back and forth, usually in conjunction with whatever music he is listening to. Drives me nuts! I'm slow, but at least I'm slow and steady and even. :D

Hmmm. What I've been doing lately is jogging a mile, then the next mile I alternate walking 1/8 and running "fast" (probably normal speed for a lot of people ) for 1/8. So it sounds like that sort of thing can lead to some inaccuracy, because my stride is longer when I go faster. I think I'll still get one, though. I love data. :)

If I did it right, you actually calibrate it for both a walking stride and a running stride, so it can tell the difference. I calibrated mine on the treadmill at my gym, but I'm slightly OCD and think I'm going to redo it at a track to make sure it's accurate. :o
FWIW, I use a shoe clip too, a different one than Sarah. I can't remember what it's called. Eva, do you remember?

I calibrated mine on the treadmill too. This weekend I used it when running with a partner with a garmin. She had us with 6.49 miles while my Nike+ had 6.26 miles. I think I might try re-calibrating it on the track sometime this week.
I just looked further into the Nike+ site and joined a challenge as well as a marathon training session. I even looked to see if there was a Cooking Light Team! :p
Update: I calibrated it on the treadmill again this morning just to see. After that the TM said my pace was 9:13 while the Nike+ said 10:26...it was definately closer to 9 than 10! :(

We have this one (http://www.switcheasy.com/products/Runaway/buynow.php) from Switcheasy. Love it.
