DH and I made a pilgrimage yesterday to Esquin Wine Merchants in SODO, on 4th Avenue- just south of SAFECO-oh, so conveniently located to I-90! We've been meaning to make this trek for months, but finally had some spare time.
We treated ourselves to an early anniversary present- a case of some of our favorites. Esquin is reportedly the largest wine shop in the Northwest. WOWZA- what a selection. It was hard not to go absolutely crazy- DH and I were exclaiming in very loud stage whispers across the store at each other with each new and exciting discovery. THe prices ranged from inexpensive Chilean wines to ultra-spendy French, Italian, Californians. We found plenty to choose from in our price range, and received a 10 percent discount on the case. There were great reviews, both from the store and from commercial sources (Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Robert Parker), to help narrow down the many options.
We made a case from Rioja, Albariño, Chianti Classico, Piedmontese Sangiovese, a Portuguese Rueda, Bordeaux, Bourgogne, Vouvray, an Australian Marsanne, Côtes du Rhône. We didn't even get to Germany, South America, New Zealand, Greece or the Oregon Pinot Noirs- we're saving those for the next visit!
So everyone, stay tuned for future wine reviews!!
