i'm going to a massive camp out this weekend - approximately 200 people - where there is a two burner stove and fire pit space is limited due to the little rain california gets in the summer time. in my group there will be about 8 people that i am wanting to feed. anyone have any good ideas for something i could make saturday morning and then eat saturday night that doesn't need to be heated?

What about something like a chicken pasta salad. Or the Peanutty Noodles recipe from May 2000 is great room temp. and is hearty. Or some kind of wraps - there were several recipes in the June 2000 issue.

Would taking the ingredients for a sandwich/salad bar work? Maybe a couple types of really good breads, cheeses, meats, and veges along with lettuce and sprouts, mayo, mustard, and italian dressing? This would be easy on dishes and clean-up. Then again, you might end up with smashed bread and mushed tomatoes if you are hiking a ways.

I've posted this before (I think) my family is big into camping. Our favorite camp food--besides s'mores of course! Are chicken caesar wraps. Making ahead--marinate chicken in caesar dressing, grill and chop into desired size pieces. Store in ziploc bag. Bring the already bagged caesar salad (with the dressing included). At the camp site, mix the salad with the chicken--add crumbled feta to taste and roll up in flour tortillas.
