I stuck to indoor exercise targets this weekend as it was raining. I appreciate exercise indoors when the weather gets crummy. I did bike treadmill and elliptical for a total of 1 hr saturday, and then did cathe's biceps and coremax #2. sunday I did 30 harder-than -usual minutes on the treadmill and then cathe's chest/triceps. My left shoulder has been unhappy since september so I started some anti inflammatories for it. better almost immediately. so back to those darn push ups. the drop sets in chest/triceps are killers so I did them all on my knees. I've been doing standard pushups at yoga but that's only 10. there are 72 in chest/ triceps followed by a lot of other moves that work the same general area. I wanted some soreness but didn't want to be totalled after a long layoff. I got my wish, I'm a little sore today but nothing major.
Hope everyone had a good weekend and don't forget to vote tomorrow! We vote by mail and I sent it in over a week ago. Only one more day of political ads:eek:! whoopee!

72 push ups?!!! Ugh. I hate push ups. I'd definately do them on the knees!!!
Sounds like you had a great workout weekend Valerie! And yes, VOTE!! I plan on being there at 7am - the lines in our little community are long.
OK the time is now to get back on the wagon. Soccer is over (yea!) and I should be able to exercise any day of the week right after school. So today I started back with BSS3 with Stephanie. UGH - I am soooo out of shape. Tomorrow is short cardio (kids have haircuts after school) and Wednesday is a long cardio/weights! I need to get the gosh darn Halloween candy out of my house!!!
Hope the rest of you all are doing well and that we may see you this week!!!:)

I will proudly say that I've done those 72 push ups... but not for a while.... you do 16, take a break, then 14, take a break, 12 take a break etc etc. but the count is 72 total. It's not out of reach but I didn't want to hurt my shoulder and I didn't want to be THAT sore. better to do modified ones and work back up. so today I did 10 on the bike, 20 on the treadmill , 15 on the elliptical, and most but not all of Power Hour. I haven't done squats and lunges for a while and since hiking is coming to an end, I need to replace it with those nasty leg moves. I got a couple phone calls and had to cut PH short. It takes a long time to build it up so that push up number is comfortable but really, if you can do 20 in a row you can probably do the 72 with the breaks. It's not as bad as it sounds. I like pushups cause it seems to work lots all at once without a lot of fanfare, and I find I can move up the number fairly quickly. much faster than I can increase weight on most other moves. Charisse, are we alone out here? someone else, please chime in?

Hi, Valerie & Charisse!! I'm still around. Workouts have been a little sparse lately - I haven't been feeling too well and I'm just kind of tired. We've been a little too busy lately and I think it's wearing me out! I'm reworking my workout plan to include two rest days. I hope that will give me a little more energy on the days I do workout. We'll see how it works. I guess it's always a work in progress.
You guys are both doing great! I hear you about those push ups in GS Chest. I can do them but do most of them on my knees. I'm always afraid I'm going to hurt my back.
I voted early so now it's time to wait and see. Should be an interesting time! Historic no matter who wins. One of my co-workers is having her first grandchild today - she should be an election-day-baby!
Valerie -- I read the earlier thread and am so glad that your test results didn't indicate anything problematic. Kudos for being in such great shape. What kind of doc is your DH? I work in healthcare but on the HR side. It's always interesting!
I WILL be back with a workout for tomorrow!!!

Hey Stacy, 2 days off a week is not too much. sometimes I do long stretches without a day off but I make sure some days are easier than others. as I've gotten older I find the fitness factor drops off quicker than it used to so I'm best off doing "something" just about every day. but I don't have a job anymore so my energy doesn't get used up working or chasing kids. That may not be "formal" exercise but it takes time and energy. DH is an Internist. He exercises more than I do. I also worked in health care in a variety of areas but officially retired a few years ago. I didn't want to, but with HIPPA they didn't want me doing DH's transcription anymore so I bagged it. I was just doing his and it was kind of fun, brought in a little money and I could work at home. but everyone's going to EMR.
Yeah, believe me, I was glad there's nothing seriously wrong too...:o I will always have to be careful to get enough salt and especially water but that's not too big a deal.
I didn't do anything yet today and am thinking a little something would be good. I got a little sore all over from power hour and we want to hike tomorrow, assuming the election is settled.... so I don't have to sit up half the night gnawing my nails off. I have not been this involved in an election, EVER. I am so hoping this ends well and cleanly without any shenanigans.

I'm at home today with a sick kid - so I get to workout early today!;)
Nothing last night as I stood in line to vote (about 45mins) and then ran the kids to haircuts.... Valerie, I watched the returns and was amazed to see our state -PA- so decisive on the victory:)
Stacy - good to see you! Scaling back may not be a bad idea - your workouts sound intense!! Hope you get back to feeling better - no fun being sick and rundown!!
I got my Collage catalog and circled some new firm dvd's I'd like to get - feeling the need to mix it up again. Definately need to get some cardio in today - will check back in!

Just checking back in to say I did Cathe's Cardio and Weights - minus the weights! My right arch is really aching - not sure what's up with it.

I'm back with a workout!! Yea! This morning I did Step Works - quite fun.
I have to say, I'm amazed at the election results! I was hopeful but was waiting until it was official to get excited. I'm in the middle of a big ole red state, so I'm trying to be quiet today. So glad it was all very decisive.
Valerie -- You are so right about HIPPA. I understand the reasons behind it but it adds needless complexity sometimes, too. I don't blame you for bowing out. It's hard to believe that your DH is more active than you! How does he find the time? He must have endless energy. I worked up a 5-day/week rotation for the next month that I'm excited about. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Charisse -- Hope your DS and your arch feel better soon! New DVDs are always inspiring - I just ordered a couple myself!
I'll check in tomorrow!

DH exercises right when he gets up in the morning from about 5:30 to around 7:30 not exact times , but he's very consistent. I can't work out if I haven't eaten anything, ( used to be able to but I just can't do that anymore) and then can't work until the food is "processed" so I go later.
He's in great shape but it never helps his BP, cholesterol or trigylcerides. Really not fair.
Our hike yesterday was pretty wimpy by anyone's standards. I was not enthused, still happily wallowing in election coverage and trying to get my computer printer working again. there was a couple inches of new snow making rocky trails pretty slippery. so we did a short one, 2 hours total. need to work harder today, thursday , to make up for it.
Charisse there is more than one way to get all the halloween candy out of the house.... although eating it all is one way! DH is demolishing the left over snickers bars. I don't like candy so that's not a temptation for me.
I have other weaknesses...

I worked hard today. warm up on bike. 30 min on each treadmill and elliptical. coremax #2. GS chest and triceps. had lots of time so didn't need to rush it at all, but that was enough!

Valerie -- You're right that was enough yesterday! Great workout, though. DH and I are early exercisers like your DH. I don't have time to eat anything before I work out but I must have a cup of coffee! It's not ideal, but it's the best I can do. I like candy plus have other vices!! Not good at all...
I worked hard this morning, too. I did IMAX 2 - just learning it so I did the first 5 intervals & beginning of the sixth. My legs were a little too tired to keep going at that pace so I finished with cardio 1 & 4 from Cardio & Weights. Worked quite well - ended up with 55 minutes of cardio.
Have a great weekend, all!
