I took the liberty of starting the November thread... I did my best to update info where appropriate - but if there's a mistake let me know today while I can still change it. I'm hoping I won't be here for the December one but I suppose there are no guarantees. :)
I'm doing okay... I'm off to an ultrasound this afternoon. And I have an appointment on Thursday. I'm up to the weekly appointments now! I've worked on getting stuff for my hospital bag... now I just need to wash a few things and actually pack it.
My feet have been swelling more, and I'm still feeling quite sore and uncomfortable. I'm interested to know the estimate of how big this guy is because I can't imagine doing this for another 5 weeks or so (I'm 36w4 days). But I suppose I'll do it if that's what happens! My headaches are back... I feel as though I constantly have a mild headache. I'm trying to stay uber-hydrated, but do have to dehydrate a bit to be able to get out into the world where a bathroom isn't readily available. Nothings worse then being on the subway and needing a bathroom! :o
Happy November everyone!
Pony - how'd the shower go?

Happy November everyone and welcome Lrimerman and Bawstinn!
So yeah, remember how I said that I felt like I had gotten huge this past month? Turns out that I did :D OK, maybe not huge but baby boy definitely went through a growth spurt. I'm still good with my weight gain but still need to be careful - type 1 diabetes runs in my family and the doc wants me to be especially careful to avoid developing gestational diabetes.
DH and I are making the trek to BBRU this weekend. We have to drive 2 hours over to the Des Moines - the only one in the state - so it's kind of a pain but should make for a fun outing for us. Hopefully after this trip, and DH actually seeing everything, the registry will be complete. The family is nipping at my heels to get this done
So, the last thing that I haven't made any decision on is a crib. This is seriously a huge wall I keep hitting. It seems like ever manufacturer out there has had recalls and every few weeks there's another one. What cribs do other folks have and are you happy with them?

Happy November!
Sarah- for DS we bought the Highland Park crib from Simmons. It does not appear to be sold anymore- but we have been happy with the quality and finish of the crib, and it hasn't been recalled...
Heather, you're in the home stretch! If I remember correctly, I spent my final month pregnant with DS telling him several times per day that he was welcome to come out ANY TIME, and each day I honestly didn't think I'd be able to endure another day pregnant. It's tough and uncomfortable- sending you hugs for this final month!
As for me, I am beginning to remember why it took me 2 1/2 years to forget the discomfort and indignities of my pregnancy with DS. ;) At almost 7 months, I feel huge, my hips are starting to hurt, sleeping is tough, and I've had a cold with a cough for over a week- and when I cough or sneeze, I, uh, leak a little. Delightful! But for all my complaints, the baby is active and seemingly healthy and that's what matters.
Sooooo, you all know I've been enjoying EVERY moment of this pregnancy.....but now I'm starting to worry about the position of the baby. I'm approaching 31 weeks and the baby is in a transverse position, but I would say the head is more up. The doc. last week was not concerned, but I'm starting to get a bit concerned, b/c I don't feel like the baby has moved positions in a long time. I will see the doc. again on Monday now that I'm going every 2 weeks :). I know I still have time for the baby to move, but just getting a bit worried.
The shower was amazing. My friends did such a great job. It was at a nice restaurant and the menu was sooo good. I had shrimp and avocado cocktail and a mushroom ravioli in a madeira wine sauce. My friend had everyone send her baby pictures and she put them in a nice ornament type frame for the place settings. And the gifts were awesome!!! Such good, practical and cute stuff. Yay!! Now our house is just a mess, we have no room to put away all of our goodies...hopefully we will soon! We just need to get a few big items and we are set--pump and jogging stroller. Oh and a new camera, recliner and dresser :p
helios7-Thanks for getting us started on your last month!! Very exciting. Good luck at your appt. I am not supposed to get anymore ultrasounds. :( Sorry about the headaches and swelling.. it will soon be over in a few weeks :)
JenZen-Congrats on another boy!!!
Lisa- Congratulations!!!! Welcome!!!
Sarah45-My mom is bringing us our niece's crib. It is from JCP called Bright Futures style Melanie. Have fun at BRU.
Stephanie-sorry about some of your uncomfortableness, but glad you have a healthly little one bouncing around!

Delurking for Michelle-
My DD was in a transverse position until late in my pregnancy as well. I remember being freaked out about it. I can remember watching TV with DH one night and we both happened to look down at my belly and we saw this giant position shift under my shirt. He said that he thought we were about to have a re-enactment of the scene from Alien where the thing comes out her stomach  At my next dr. appt, sure enough she was head down and she stayed like that until she was born. You still have a lot of time left, and if the baby doesn't move on its own your doctor can try to do some manual manipulation to try and either turn the baby or get it to turn so that you can avoid a c-section. I forget what that is called but you might ask your doctor about it.

Thank you for all the warm welcomes.
Starting to feel a bit better - the RE nurse had told me to take 25mg B6, 3x a day. The paperwork from my OB said 50mg, 2x a day. I switched to the twice a day and it seems like the extra 25 mg is dong the trick. I'm glad, since there is quite a difference, between having your first and then being pregnant with an active toddler. No going home from work and taking a nap like last time. ;) Madeleine and I also take parent/tot swim (for as long as I still fit in my suit) and parent/tot tumbling.
We kept everything and had bought all gender neutral stuff, so we are set for this one. We have already decided that Madeline's current bedroom will stay as-is for the baby and then she'll move into the room next door with new furniture. We had gone with a convertible crib (crib-> toddler bed -> full-size bed) so the front rail will just need to go back on. No need to buy another crib. I want to move her after the first of the year so she doesn't feel like the baby is taking her room.
Sarah - Nice to see someone else from Iowa (the first I've seen, I think)! What part of the state are you from? I'm in the Cedar Rapids area. We had actually gotten our furniture from USA Baby in Madison. There is nothing here. I think for Madeleine's furniture we are taking a trip to Goode's in IL or I heard there is a Nebraska Furniture Mart in Des Moines.
I think that is all I have for the moment. Just kind of hanging out and trying to decide what screening to do. I think we are going to do what we did last time - do as much non-invasive testing as possible and based on those results, decide if I want an amnio or not. Last time we just went with the quad screening. I just love having 'advanced materal age' slapped all over my chart.

Delurking at 32 weeks. Baby is due on 12/31 and will be a surprise.
Sarah - I have spent a lot of time agonizing over crib choice (I need to start working on names!). With all the recalls and various other scares, I decided I did not want a crib made in China. It has been a challenge to find one made in the US. Yesterday we ended up purchasing the "Nest" crib from Room & Board. I am 99.99% sure this is the same crib from the same manufacturer as Land of Nod's "Straight Up Crib" which excellent reviews in all 3 colors on their website, many citing sturdiness (they also have free shipping). We weren't comfortable buying a crib right off the internet without being able to "kick the tires" but our local Room & Board did not have a floor model of the Nest. They had another crib by the same manufacturer that we got to see. We are picking it up Monday but I won't have a review until we assemble it closer to baby's arrival. It's a fixed rail crib so there aren't any concerns about hardware on the dropside, but I'm not sure how my back will hold out as we lower the mattress. I'm only 5'2". We found another US made crib with a dropside, but weren't pleased with the construction and it was almost twice as expensive. Plus it didn't drop that much! I'm going to get a good quality step aerobics step and slide it under the crib when not in use once I need a boost!

Thanks for all of the thoughts on cribs, I think we're just going to have to pick one that seems sturdy and high quality (duh :D). None of the ones I have liked so far have drop sides so, as you pointed out Beth, that won't be an issue.
Bawstinn - Yeah, another Iowan here. We're actually Ohio transplants but have lived here for almost 4 years :) We live in Urbana but work in CR/Marion. Thanks for the tips on furniture places, it looks like Nebraska Furniture Mart is in Clive with BBRU so I think I'll take the address and stop by this weekend while we're there. I HATE that there is nowhere to chop for stuff around here, you're lucky to have leftovers.
Pony - I'm glad that your shower was so great, it sounds like my kind of baby shower! My SIL and MIL are starting the planning on my Christmastime one. It will definitely be more of the traditional shower even though I tried to keep hinting that it would be nice to just have a family get-together so my DH could spend time with his extended family too. I think they missed the hints  SIL did promise me no embarrassing games and I promised payback if she failed to follow through :D
Gertdog - Sorry you feel so uncomfortable, hopefully the cold goes away soon and you can feel only Baby-uncomfortable. ;)

We are in Swisher and are actually PA and MA transplants that have been here 8 and 11 years and it is quite an adjustment to have to travel all over to find something as simple as a crib. I don't even attempt to clothes shop around here anymore cause I can't ever find anything. The Toys R Us here is pretty bare too. I am a big online shopper. ;)
I got scrambled eggs and an english muffin for breakfast this morning and it hasn't made a dent in my hunger. It is a nice switch from the nausea but I am trying to figure out how to get something else without looking like a pig. :D
My pants are starting to get tighter, not at the waist, but lower. Definitely something sticking out there. My pants were a little baggy to start with and I am hoping I can make it to T-Day before having to break out the maternity pants. That will put me right at 12 weeks.

Hi all....
Welcome Beth G. Better late then never! :)
The ultrasound yesterday went well. Baby boy looks good, and has a lot of fluid. He's still "swimming happily". His estimated weight is 7lbs!!! And while that's an estimate (plus or minus half a pound) it still supports the theory that he's a big boy. The one slight (and oh so slight) negative was that he's sunny side up or facing posterior (his back to my back). He's been this way for a while... judging from my memories of the 28 week ultrasound and my back pain, so I'm renewed in my efforts to sit forward and encourage him to turn. He can certainly be delivered sunny side up, but it takes longer and increases the risk of "stalling out". So.. we'll see how that turns out.
Maria - I highly recommend a bella band (http://www.ingridandisabel.com/) for those "pants tight but not maternity yet" days. It really helps a lot as it eliminates the need to button and or zip as it becomes more uncomfortable. I just bought one and found I used it constantly. And I actually broke it out a few weeks ago when I was squeezing into a 0-6 month maternity skirt at the end of the summer.
Stephanie - I hear you in the uncomfortableness. I've stopped by workouts because of hip/back pain and am just feeling uncomfortably gigantic. So far I haven't picked up the cold that DH has suffered from the last week... hope you stay healthy as well!
Okay.. time to do something with my day. I washed stuff for the hospital bag, now I think I'll go pack it. :)

Hey all! Congratulations Bekki! Your boys are absolutely precious! And Welcome Maria, Lisa and Beth!
Had my 24 wk appt last week and all was well. I had to bring Nick with me so it was a shorter appt than normal. But all is well I suppose. I had a little weight jump to my dismay but I guess it's expected now. Other than that, our little girl is just as active and kicky as ever. DS was this way in utero and he's quite the rambuxious child. I hope this isn't another precursor... Other than that, I've just been busy with work. But life is good!
helios - thanks for getting started on your last month here. :) Sorry to hear about the headaches and swelling. Your time is coming so hang in there. FWIW, i think their guesstimate on the baby weight can be inaccurate. They guessed DS was an 8-9# baby right before I had him. Um, he was 6#1 oz. BUT, he did have a huge head and unfortunately that's what made his entrance to the world a bit painful. He was also posterior and I WISHED someone would have told me that before. I would have set on my birthing ball a heck of a lot more. Back labor is a b*tch... :o
Bawstinn - hello! I've been lurking on the vets thread secretly rooting for all of you ladies. I'm SO HAPPY you're here! :) That was smart thinking to do gender neutral so this baby is set. We're still working on the whole nursery theme. We're converting our guest bedroom to the nursery so DS will acquire a full size bed. Not sure how that transition will turn out...
Pony - your shower sounds absolutely lovely. AND you raked in some nice gifts! :D RE: transverse baby - if it's any concilation, we found out DS was breech still at 36 weeks. For a week, every night I'd lay inclined upside down and he eventually turned on his own. And like Lara mentioned, the doctor can try and turn them. There are several other natural remedies I've seen for getting a baby to turn - might be worth a google search to ease your mind. :)
Gertdog - I'll second the pregnancy indignities. For the last week I've had back issues and the um...leaking. I sneezed on Sunday and DH decided it was absolutely hysterical and started calling me Dribble. Nice. BUT, it sounds like everything else is good with you and baby so that's what counts. :)

I hope I didn't sound too complain-y about being uncomfortable. While I'm not necessarily enjoying it, it's not a huge deal, just something to whine about a little. ;) DH and I had a running joke after Ryan was born- we'd have a rough baby day (or night) and he'd say "Ready for another one?" and I'd say "Not until the amnesia kicks in!" I was just hoping the amnesia might last a bit longer. :p
Heather and fancyn, glad to hear those ultrasounds went well!
Maria, glad you're feeling better!
Michelle, glad you enjoyed your shower- I well remember the weeks before Ryan was born and having so much new stuff to find places for. (Now all that stuff is stowed in the attic- DH and I will have to revisit it soon!)
Hi Everyone! Happy November!
This has been a pretty busy week, so this is the first I've been able to post...We had parent/teacher conferences on Monday and Tuesday, and boy, am I tired from all that! I've had a cold for the last week and have not been sleeping that great, so I think it's all caught up to me. Other than that, I'm feeling really good with baby stuff. Less heartburn, feeling the baby move all the time...just loving life at 22 weeks! :)
We decided on decor/theme for the baby's room. Well I guess I should say that I'm planning on copying this room (http://www.potterybarnkids.com/room/rom/romnur/romnurstl/index.cfm)from Pottery Barn for the most part. :p I only bought the quilt from pb, and I'm planning on hanging it on the wall as the main color scheme for the room. I really wanted the bumper pads, because I think they are so cute, but since we're not supposed to use them there's no point in buying them, right? The rest will be pale green walls and white everything else (furniture, curtains).
Helios:Thanks for starting us off! How exciting that you're just a few weeks away from meeting your little man! Sorry you're not feeling great- hang in there!
Bawstinn and Lrimerman and BethG:Welcome! :)
Sarah45:We still haven't decided on a crib yet either. Will you report back when you decide?
Pony:I don't have any advice or words of wisdom about the baby's positioning, but I will think upside down thoughts for your little one! It sounds like your shower was great. Good luck finding a place for all your new stuff!
Have a good week, ladies!

Hey, we are the perfect ones to complain to - we COMPLETELY sympathize :D
Sarah45:We still haven't decided on a crib yet either. Will you report back when you decide?Kim
I'll report back but can't promise it will be anything other than a "i've got to just make up my mind" kind of decision :) The one I REALLY liked at BRU the first time I was there was this one (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3012703) but this (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2574636) was also in my list. We'll see what the woodworker DH has to say about our choices :)
I finally bought curtain fabric for the baby's room! Whew, one decision made and purchased. I got a great kelly green. Now I need to clear out the room and paint - maybe next weekend? I would love to get it done before Thanksgiving.
Hi everyone.
Not much going on here...trying a few funny exercise things to see if the baby moves, but trying not to worry about it. I know I still have time :). Looking forward to my doctor's appt. next week!
I'm just anxious for my husband to finish the garage. He is turning it in to his studio and it is just taking FOREVER!!!!!! I don't feel like we can work on the baby's room until it is done, b/c all the garage/studio stuff is in the house. All over the place. :(:o Driving me bonkers!!! ;)
LaraW, thank you for telling me about your experience. :)
Maria, I'm glad you are feeling better.
Sarah45, we only played two games. I'm not a game person either! One of them I had heard of the other one was new to me and I thought a lot of fun! The first one was everyone wears a baby pin and you can't say "baby". If you say "baby", the person who hears gets your pin. The one I hadn't played before was a word association type game. My friend bought a bunch of different candy bars and other candy. She spread them out on the tables and we played while we were waiting on our food. She would call out a phrase and then you had to pick the candy which represented the phrase. For ex., twin boy names--Mike and Ike OR Engorged breasts--Whoppers :p . It was funny.
helios7, glad the baby boy is looking good. Did the doctor say anything about him being sunny side up?
fancyn, glad the appt well! Do you mind sharing your birthing experience with Nick? Did you go natural or did you have an epidural? I am still struggling with what I want to do!!!! :) I think I'm going in there w/ an open mind, but I really want to try natural. I'm not going to beat myself up about how the labor goes, just want this baby!!!
Kim, yay for feeling great!!! The nursery in the picture looks lovely!!!

Hi All...once again, I have been horrible about posting, but wanted to let you know that we had a baby boy last week. Ayaan was born on 10/29 at 12:51 PM, weighing 7lbs. 2oz and standing tall at 20 1/4 inches. I am just in love with my little guy...we were surprised when they said "it's a boy!" in the delivery room...we expected another girl would be added to the mix.
All is well now, but we had a rough start, with him losing a pound of his birthweight while waiting for my milk to come in. He is much happier now that he is nursing well...a little too well in the middle of the night (he is latched to me from midnite to 5AM!), but at least no more screaming.
I have tried to attach a pic of us...hope it works!
Congrats to bekki, mabvt and lbd on your new babies :)! I hope all is going well. To all the other mommies, enjoy your pregnancies...though I was so miserable at the end, I am already missing it!!!!

Congratulations Luv to Cook!!
I was just popping in here to remind people of the White House Greeting Office. You can get a greeting for new babies from the President and First Lady - it's free and takes about 6 weeks max. You have one year from your baby's birth to sign up - I missed it for Ethan, but I got it for David this week, and it's a lovely little patriotic welcome message.

Congrats Luv to Cook! I guess that means I'm next....
Just got back from an appointment. Baby boy was doing well, the doctor did quick ultrasound and his heartbeat looked good and he was moving. Which was reassuring, since he's been on the more quiet side again. But then I was busy this morning doing baby laundry and running around so that may have something to do with it. I'm dilated one centimeter... :) So things are starting to happen. Slowly but surely. After my shower on Saturday I'm going to start taking evening primrose tablets... a midwife friend recommended them and my doctor approved. Apparently it can help get things started... not immediately but over time. My dr thinks I'll make my appt next week, but maybe the week after..... ? :)
Now I'm on the couch chilling until it's time to leave for birthing class. It feels good to have feet up! :)
Couperine - thanks for the tip. I think I'll wait until the new administration rolls in, and then get one for baby boy. :)
Pony - the dr said not to worry about the sunny-side up. She said babies often turn in labor (which was exactly what my friend who had a baby last week told me about her experience) so I'm feeling better about that.
kabs - Ah parent teacher conferences. Seems like another world now. :) Glad the nursery prep is underway and going well.
Stephanie - complain away. I too find it comforting to whine to this sympathetic audience, but I'm doing better this week then I was last week and even got a quick workout in yesterday. So it isn't as grim as I sometimes might make it sound. :)
Fancyn - yes, I'm taking the weight estimate with a grain of salt. Still, I measured 39 centimeters today at 36 w 6 days, so things are large all around. But some of that is definitely fluid - my dr warned me that because of all the fluid things may be more of a gush then a trickle. We'll have to see..... :)

Congrats to Bekki and L to Cook! We are having a little boy boom around these parts! L to C I was shocked to see a boy too.
I am posting a much delayed photo of little Neal. This is from the day we was born. He was four weeks old this week! Now I'll go to the New Moms board where I belong. :) I'll post an updated photo there.

Congrats Luv to Cook! That is a great family pic. And I bet the boy was quite the surprise!
Mabvt - He is adorable. Albeit much bigger now. :) Hope everything is going well so far!
Pony - you know, i never thought about Nick being there at the birth. I'm not opposed to it I suppose. Do any other veteran mothers out there have any thoughts about this or care to share what you plan on doing? Nick's delivery: I labored for 14 hours total, 12 hours natural and the nurse pretty much cornered me into an epidural. I didn't have my heart 100% set either way but was upset how pushy she was. But having said that, I had been in back labor the entire time. My water broke and the contractions started about an hour later. I was told b/c I was tense with the pain, I wasn't progressing fast enough. I tried the shower, the birthing ball, rocking on all fours to get him to turn but nothing helped. after the epidural i relaxed a bit and things sped up went from an 8 to a 10 in about 30 mins. I wasn't totally numb b/c I could move my legs but had a difficult time with pushing b/c I couldn't tell exactly what I was pushing. :o The pushing lasted a little over an hour with the help of tugging on a rope and out came baby. This time I'm trying not to have my heart set again. All I want is a healthy baby. :) Do you know if you're little one has turned yet?
Helios - Wow, you are measuring big. Retracting my original statement and might assume he is on the large side. In regards to the fluid, are you talking about a gush when your water breaks v. a steady leak? Not sure I'm following... When's your appt. this week? Are you progressing (knocking on wood :D)?
Sarah45 - did you get your curtains made? I dread starting the nursery. We still need to actually figure out what we're doing. Once DH will actually agree on something I like, we'll get started.
Kabs - Yay on deciding the nursery theme. And that the heartburn has subsided for now.
Gertdog - Didn't sound complainy to me at all. I will second every issue you're having :D.
Not much here. Sleep has been pretty crummy this past week since we've been house/dog sitting and my back is still out of place. I think it's actually my siatic nerve acting up. I'm hoping that once I'm back home in my own bed it magically will go away. Wishful thinking. And the $%*$ scale really put me in a bad mood this morning. I know I did a little damage this weekend but reallY? It has to be water retention (I keep telling myself..)
I hope everyone is doing great!

Do any other veteran mothers out there have any thoughts about this or care to share what you plan on doing?
Madeleine will be 3 or close to it when #2 arrives and the planner in me wants to make sure she won't be there. She really doesn't 'get it' anyway (she asked the nurse if she could watch Elmo on the u/s screen).
My labor with her was actually very good <knock on wood>. I labored for 6 hours at home. Got the hospital, had an epidural and relaxed while watching Jerry Maguire (funny what you remember) on some TBS '2 in a row' special. They ended up breaking my water. I pushed for 20 minutes and she was born about 6 hours after we got to the hospital.
Unfortunately she has seen me get sick or dry heave several times and is always very concerned (nothing like having a 2 yr old pat your back as you get sick). I just can't imagine her being there for the whole event; at her age I'd be afraid she be too scared. We don't have any family here so we may not be able to avoid her being at the hospital for a short amount of time, depending on the time of day.
Hope everyone had a good weekend. We are doing well over here, but the baby is still transverse. I feel so bad sleeping on my sides, b/c I feel like I'm squishing the baby. When I lay on my left, the baby is kicking my side and when I lay on my right the baby is bouncing its head on my side. :p Maybe he/she will get the hint and go head first ;). I have my appt. on Wednesday and am looking forward to hearing what the doctor says about the positioning. And I finally made a pediatrician appt for next week. We have our last birthing class tonight. I'm feeling prepared w/ knowledge, so that is good! Not much else going on here.
Luv to Cook-Congratulations!!!
helios7-1 cm!!! Yay. My friend who hosted my shower is due 12/4 and she had her appt. today and is 2 cm. She was early w/ her first, so we are thinking she will be going into labor soon. How was your shower? Do you have some items you still need to get? We do, but nothing that is needed right away.
mabvt-What a beautiful little boy.
fancyn-Wow, I'm impressed....12 hours of back labor w/o an epidural. :) Thanks for the information, I love hearing about everyones experiences. The baby is still sideways! I go on Wednesday and will see what the doc says, but I'm just hoping he/she will do the turn soon! Hope you get some good sleep. I've been falling asleep fine, but waking up so early----like 5am  and I can sleep in during the week till at least 7 if I want!
Maria-that is so sweet about Madeline patting your back. :)

Hi all! We didn't end up making the trip to BRU this past weekend BUT we did manage to finish the registry and select a crib. I went with the DaVinci Emily crib, ordered it from Amazon (free shipping!) and it will be here Friday :D We have quite an uphill driveway so when the snow arrives it is very difficult, if not impossible, for delivery trucks to get out of so we wanted to make sure that our "big item" was taken care of. I also ordered the carseat so if something happens and the baby comes early, we have the essential items.
Luv to Cook - Beautiful baby boy and family, Congrats!!
Fancyn - Nope, the curtains are not made yet. My mother is visiting for Thanksgiving weekend and wants to help out so we'll at least get them all cut out and pinned that weekend, if not completely done. She has so much more patience and experience than I do with sewing that I am looking forward to doing them with her. I did take my fabric in and color matched paint for the room though so next week is baby room painting weekend!
Pony - I hope you have a good appointment tomorrow, I'd be really interested to hear what your doc says about the baby's position too. :)
Have a great week everyone!
My appt. was good. I saw a different doctor then I did last time. She was not worried about the babies positioning at this time. The baby might be more head down as of this morning!!!! I did prenatal yoga last night (I've been going every Tuesday night for about a month) and I noticed when I woke up this morning the kicks were a bit higher and now on the other side. My husband said my stomach looked different too. So, I'm thinking it did a flip and is more head down. The doctor said she felt two hard body parts on the top and bottom of my stomach, so she is thinking the baby is making its way. It was so cute, b/c when the RN was trying to get the heartrate, the baby was kicking wherever she put the doppler. You could hear the kicks more then the hb. You could also see them. Too funny. The heartrate was 156 and I'm still measuring right on target!
I'm exhauted today. Just didn't sleep well...my plan was to go to a la leche meeting tonight. I just wanted to see what it was all about....but I can barely stay awake :(
Sarah45-I'm glad you found your crib.

I think I spoke to soon. Last night, the baby was back to being sideways, but w/ the head on the left. The good thing is it obviously has plenty of room right now :)

Hi all,
I've been lurking along ... I posted a huge post earlier this week, but my computer ate it. :(
Anyway, things are well here. Baby is really moving this morning. He's been active since about 5 a.m.
Question: Any suggestions on how to explain birth to a 4-year-old? My son has been asking TONS of questions. I'll be taking him to my next appointment so he can meet my midwife and hear the heartbeat.

Just checking in after doing much lurking. I'm 35 weeks today, and for the most part, feeling pretty good. I'm having a little swelling in 1 foot, but other than that no issues. My C/S is scheduled for the 10th, so just under a month to go.
We still don't know what's going on with our little girl's health; she doesn't move as much as my son did, she does have some known issues that I've talked about in the past on this forum (2 club feet, some issue with one of her hands, and some possible global movement issues.) I continue to live by the mantra passed on to me by my friend, "Believe in her and give her the opportunity to surprise you." That phrase has been amazingly reassuring. I guess we'll have a better idea of what the big picture is in a few weeks.
I'm still jealous whenever I read about the fun some of you are having guessing the genders of your children---I'll be bitter until my death that the office screwed up and blew the surprise for us this summer!
JenZen: I've warned my 3 1/2 year old that I'm going to have a pretty big ouchie on my tummy after his baby sister comes, and that he'll have to be pretty careful. He has responded by telling everyone we meet that his baby sister is going to break mommy's tummy, but (in my mother's standard line whenever we got a boo-boo) it will heal up before I get married. My husband may be surprised to learn that.
Pony: The reason for my scheduled c/s is a transverse baby. My son was transverse and we tried all of the options to get him to turn---positional stuff, an attempted version in the hospital, accupuncture (actually studied in the New England Journal of Medicine to have better success rates than the turning attempts by traditional physicians, etc.) At 38 weeks, we scheduled the section for 39 weeks, and that was the way he arrived. His sister appears to be in the same position and I'm just going with the surgery this time. I decided to just let it go and see what happens. I reassured myself with the fact that 75 years ago (or even 50 years ago) neither my child nor I probably would have survived the delivery of the sideways child. I thank God for modern medicine that gave both of us the opportunity to enjoy one another every day!
Happy incubating to all!

Quick question about flu shots. I can't remember if I asked this already or not, but are you all getting flu shots?

Quick question about flu shots. I can't remember if I asked this already or not, but are you all getting flu shots?
I'd be curious to see responses on this too. I'm scheduled to have one at my appointment tomorrow. I have mixed feelings about it - I've never had a flu shot, and, (knock on wood), it hasn't been a problem. While I don't think there really is evidence to link mercury with autism, it just nags at me slightly, and I wonder if I really need the shot.
At the same time, I had a relatively minor stomach bug last week, and it absolutely knocked me out for several days. If I wasn't pregnant, it was the kind of thing I probably would have shook off in 24 hours. So - obviously the flu would be far worse. And, the shot protects you against having the flu with a newborn in the house.
I'll probably bite the bullet and do it. Most of my friends and my sister had one when they were pregnant.

delurking on the flu shot issue though I'm still not ready to join you all officially.
I asked my dr. and she said it is strongly advised for all pregnant women, and there is some evidence that the immunity is passed onto the baby to protect it for about six months after birth. I got mine last week. I also asked her about mercury-free and she said it didn't matter.
Hi Candace ;)
Thanks for all the input. I planned on getting it even though I was a bit nervous b/c I have never gotten it in the past. I worry I would get a reaction from it or something. I was going to get it at work and all of the RN's I work with were nervous to give it to me b/c I was pregnant. This made me more nervous. They all said they didn't get flu shots when they were pg, but I'm assuming it is just b/c it wasn't recommended when they were pg....over 7+ years ago. I told them my doc's recommended it and they were still cautious. Oh well, I will get it :).
MaryMorph-I'm so glad you checked in. I was wondering about you and the little baby girl. Ohhh, I would be bitter too! I remember when you mistakenly found out the sex. I keep thinking someone will tell me w/ only a handful of weeks to go. Thanks for telling me about your experience on your babies position. I just can't believe he/she was pretty much head down yesterday and has now gone back to its comfy transverse position! I'm still crossing my fingers. I'm so glad you are having such a positive outlook on your little girls health. I will be thinking of you and her. The 10th is right around the corner :)
I got a flu shot this year. I've never gotten one before, and never get the flu (knocking on wood) either. However, being a teacher, and being pregnant, my doctor told me to definitely get one.
Mary Jo- I think you have a great attitude. I love your mantra-I'm glad it's giving you some peace of mind in your final weeks of pregnancy.
Pony- I'm sending squirmy thoughts to your baby. Hope he or she turns around and stays turned around!
mabvt- What a beautiful little guy you have there! Hope you're enjoying your time with Neal!
Helios- Any updates?

Hi All...
Still here. Just being super lazy this week!
Had an appointment today. Still 1 cm, but now 50% effaced. So.. things are moving but slowly still. My dr estimates I'll make Tuesday's appt. Baby boy still measuring 39 centimeters (as he did last week) and tomorrow I'll be 38 weeks. I'm still taking my evening primrose oil... hoping to move things along.
On a bummer note - i've contracted oral thrush. Dr. Google (what did we all do before internet searching) informed me it isn't uncommon in pregnancy, however my OB wants me to see my regular doctor as she has only had one other patient develop the condition. She's not entirely sure it's pregnancy related (I've still a yet undiagnosed mystery condition on the side ... related to the surgery in June) so she wants my "other" medical side to be aware and weigh in on the issue. Which is fine, but now I have to get up early for an 8:40 appt! Even though I've been up for a while by then every morning, the concept of getting into the city to my drs office by then is quite daunting. Plus the condition itself is pretty annoying - I'm tired of a sore tongue! It's ruining my enjoyment of food. Maybe that's why I didn't gain this week... :o
Anyways... too late for personals. We had our last birthing class tonight - and my MIL freaked out that we were in labor. DH's phone kept ringing! It was pretty funny, in that oh boy what will happen when we're really in labor way!
Hope everyone's doing well and will write more soon....
OH. I had my first flu shot ever last year although I ended up losing the pregnancy. In March DH got the flu, and I didn't. I got one again this year... preservative free ... primarily for the antibodies/protecting baby boy. They won't give babies under 6 months a flu shot, and so both DH and I got one to protect him as much as possible.
Beth G.

I also got the flu shot a few weeks ago. New York State does not allow pregnant women to get the shot with thimerosal, although does not differentiate between vaccines which are entirely free of thimerosal and those that contain a trace amount.
This chart shows the different vaccines available and whether they contain thimerosal, so you might want to call a few places and see if you can find one of the vaccines with no thimerosal or only a trace if it makes you feel more comfortable.
http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/vaxsupply.htm#table
I made the mistake of having the shot in my left arm - since I'm right handed that is what I normally do. The only side effect I've had this year and in the seven previous years I've had the shot are soreness around the vaccination site. I didn't get a lot of sleep that night since I now sleep exclusively on my left side. Ouch!
Beth, thanks for that link.
So, I ended up getting the flu shot, but everyone is freaking me out here at work :(. All the RN's are saying I shouldn't get it and then the consent form I'm signing says something about being cautious if you are pregnant. ahhhh, just makes me nervous. I kept telling everyone my doctor recommends it, the CDC recommends it, I know other pg women who have gotten it, my NP friend recommended it, so please stop freaking me out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, my rant is over :p

Count me in as having been freaked out by a pharmacist friend too, even for the shot with the trace that I had. But on to freaking out about other things!
I love peanut butter but have abstained my entire pregnancy out of an abundance of caution since three years ago I tested positive for walnut and hazelnut allergies even though I've eaten them with no issues all my life. I know that peanuts are not the same as tree nuts but I'm concerned about food allergies in general because of this.
A new study indicates it might be better to eat some.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27596933/
Call me indecisive but after not having any since I found out I was pregnant, that was enough to put peanut butter back on my bagel this morning. I'll practice moderation and only have it once a week.
One positive has already come out of this. My husband's been trying for several weeks to trap a mouse in his office with the sunflower seed butter I substituted for peanut butter early on - no luck. After peanut butter returned to our house (and his mouse trap) the mouse was caught the next day. I guess the mouse (RIP) had good taste.
Delurking to post this news story I just found, in case any of you have purchased it.
Popular gas-relief drops for infants recalled
Johnson & Johnson’s 1-ounce bottles of Mylicon may contain pieces of metal
The Associated Press
updated 6:15 p.m. ET, Mon., Nov. 10, 2008
WASHINGTON - About 12,000 units of Mylicon drops to relieve gas for infants were recalled Monday because some bottles could include pieces of metal.
Johnson & Johnson-Merck Consumer Pharmaceuticals Co. recalled certain bottles of nonstaining Mylicon gas-relief dye-free drops. The recalled drops were sold in 1-ounce plastic bottles that were distributed to stores and pharmacies after Oct. 5. They were sold over the counter.
The recalled bottles are from lots SMF007 and SMF008. These numbers are printed on the bottom of the box and on the lower-left side of the sticker on each bottle.
The recall does not include any bottles of original infant’s Mylicon gas-relief products or half-ounce bottles of nonstaining Mylicon gas relief dye-free drops.
For information on how to dispose of the drops and obtain a refund or replacement, call 800-222-9435 or visit http://www.mylicon.com.

Pony - I am sorry everyone was freaking you out over the flu shot. I received my flu shot also, back when I had all my blood drawn. OB strongly advises that you do. Had one with Madeleine as well. I could not get one through work (free) because I am preganant. I just think people are more cautious about things when you are pregnant.
Not much new here. I think the cold I had for the last 2 weeks is finally gone. Night time is still my worst time for tiredness and m/s but it seems to be getting better.

I guess it is time to rejoin this thread again - I am 10 weeks pregnant today, and I'm lurking on the thread anyway. :)
I have two boys, Ethan 3 and David 7 months, and I'm back quite a bit before I expected with a Hurricane Ike baby. It took me years to conceive Ethan, and almost 2 years for David, so I had no realistic expectation that I'd get pregnant without working at it. I had one normal cycle since David's birth, so I'm just lucky I suppose!
I had my vaginal ultrasound on Tuesday, and since I had no clue when my last cycle was, we have a EDD of 6/13/2009 based on u/s. I was induced at 37 weeks with David due to pregnancy hypertension following a few boring weeks of bedrest. My hypertension never went away and I turned 35, so I get to have a high-risk pregnancy. Joy, but the end result is what matters.
Mildly nauseous in the mornings, but nothing too horrible for symptoms. I've brought out my pregnancy clothes already but it's mostly because all my winter clothes are pregnancy clothes. :)
I realize this is a bit early for most of you but I have several $5 coupons for any variety of Similac, which I'm happy to mail if anyone wants to PM me their mailing address. I also posted on New Moms but if anyone expects to be using formula from the get-go...

Welcome back Nancy. Nice to see someone else due aruond the same time I am - I am a day ahead of you.
Had my first appointment yesterday. Heard the heartbeat at 166 bpm. Madeleine's was up in the 170's first time we heard it. I am saying boy simply because this one is so different than my last - from sickness, to cravings, to aversions to insomnia.
Since I am also of 'advanced maternal age' I am having the sequential screening done with blood drawn and an u/s in 2 weeks and then blood drawn again further down the road. I prefer to go the 'non-evasive' route first.
Nancy - I also have hypertension and had it with Madeleine. I am very fortunate that I had no high blood pressure related issues when I was pregnant with her and despite being on meds for it, she was still a hefty 8 1/2 pounder. They had estimated her to be at 6 lbs due to the meds. I am keeping fingers and everything else crossed that all goes as well this time.
I am about ready to at least break out the maternity pants. I am down to one pair of jeans and my regular pants are starting to get a bit snug. Just need to dig through the containers of clothes to find them. I am happy that I won't have to buy too much new since I am basically on the same schedule as last time (a week off).

Maria, thank you for sharing your experience with high blood pressure. I'm a massive worrier, and it's been hard to relax about starting a pregnancy already on meds. Thankfully the one my internist chose for using with breastfeeding counts for pregnancy too. I had to pass on the 12 week test with U/S; I like that it's non-invasive, but I just cannot stress about something that doesn't have an absolute yes/no result.
It would be neat if symptoms could tell us the gender - I craved salty things with Ethan, and I adored sweets with David. I'm definitely anti-sweet right now, and I'm currently the sodium police, so this baby is unique as well. All I seem to want since I noticed the 330mg of sodium per spear is pickles. Deli ham, cheeses, basically anything that makes my eyeballs pop when I see the sodium content - that's what I really want. I have to find a good non-salty craving thing soon though - I had to throw out the pickles yesterday so I couldn't eat them.
Hopefully we'll see some other TTC vets sharing due dates soon, and I hope everyone is doing well!

Ugh.
I'm ready for this baby to come out. I never understood how women could feel this way near the end, but I do now. I've also been thinking about how awful last November was following the miscarriage, what a long journey this has been and I just want to hold my baby in my arms and know everything is okay. But he seems happy and is not ready to arrive yet. Oh well, 9 days until my due date. Maybe he'll decide next week looks good!
So not much progress at yesterday's appt. I went from 1 cm to 1.5 centimeter dilated - woo hoo! Not much effacement progress... just kinda stalled. I do know that things can turn around quickly once they get started, but I confess I was hoping for a bit more progress. Not sure the evening primrose oil is doing much! She did a quick ultrasound as he'd had a quiet day and I was a bit concerned, but he was moving away and still has lots of fluid. Perhaps it's the fluid that causes me to not feel him as much...? But he's doing great.. so I just have to try to be patient.
It's clearly not going well.
Pony - I personally think getting a flu shot is a good idea. I'm sorry you were so conflicted over it... but hopefully you and your baby will be flu free and it will work out in the end.
Glad things are going so well Couperine and Bawstinn - I read your posts and remember being at that stage and it just seems so long ago. :) Hoping things continue to go well.....
Hope all's well Gertdog and Fancyn....

Hang in there Helios! I was just there 3 weeks ago...I could NOT wait for this baby to come out. I was so shocked when I went into labor a few days before my due date! Now life is crazy and hectic again and I totally miss being pregnant. Love having the baby here, but just a teensy part of me wants to be pregnant again! Crazy, isn't it. Pretty soon, you will be holding your sweet baby in your arms!
Hi everyone. Hope everyone is feeling well. THANKS TO EVERYONE for reassuring me about the flu shot :)
Things here are fine. We are meeting the ped. this afternoon. I'm feeling fine, not sleeping well, but feeling good. I've had more heartburn at night the past couple of weeks then ever before. Not horrible, but more then usual. I just can't sleep past 5ish these days :(. We are headed to Austin this weekend for a little getaway. Looking forward to not worrying about the state of the house/garage for a couple of days and eating yummy food! :) I had my prenatal yoga class last night and it really helps getting the baby in the right position! But, I think the little one keeps trying to go back sideways. I can't tell how he/she is resting right now. I have an appt. on Monday with my doctor, yay!
Beth G.--I eat a lot of peanut butter. My standard lunch is a pb&j. :) I remember in college we had a mouse or rat in the house. I lived w/ 5 of my closest friends. We had put out a trap with some pb on it and we had put too much and the critter was able to nibble on it w/o getting caught . So nasty. We finally caught it after not putting a huge amount of pb on the trap.
LA98-Thanks for the recall info!
Bawstinn-I'm glad the cold is going away. Yay for hearing the hb! I'm craving salty, always have w/ this pg!!
Couperine-Glad to have you back :) That is amazing that it took you no time at all to get pg, but took you years w/ the others! Congrats. I'm craving salty, always have w/ this pg!!
lbd-thanks for the offer, but I think I will pass for now. :)
helios7-(((helios7))) I'm sorry you are not feeling great right now. I can see how the last few weeks would be rough, but I also see what Luv to Cook is saying! I think I will be missing the pg very much once the baby is here. Not b/c I would rather be pg then have a baby, but b/c I will especially miss the movements. Also, if and when we have #2, it is going to be sooo different b/c we will be taking care of #1. I've enjoyed being able to focus on this pg. I know what you mean about the m/c'es! I guess that is another reason why I'm savoring every moment, b/c I worry this might be our only shot. I will be feeling soooo good though once I do have this little one in my arms :). I'm excited for you, but will miss you next month :D

Welcome Couperine!
Well, the room's painted and pieces of the crib are laying all over the floor waiting to be put together :D I'll take progress any way I can!
Is anyone else's round ligament giving them issues? It's such a weird feeling, not quite a pain but it really burns. I was sitting at work today and it was just burning away - nothing much I could do about it. Luckily the "pain" comes and goes so it is never something that is so unbearable that I need Tylenol and mostly it happens when I am on my feet a lot so the cure is just to sit down :) So far this is my only real symptom/issue so I am still feeling lucky.
I haven't gotten a flu shot yet. My doc mentioned it at my last appointment and I didn't think much of it since I don't get them regularly. Now that I have read a bit more I will follow up with her more at my next appt.
I really need to get on the Ped. thing and get some recommendations from friends. Bawstinn - any suggestions??
Soooo sleepy over here!! :(
We met with the peditrician and he seems good. He came highly recommended by one of my friends, so I think we will use him. What an experience! Sooo many screaming babies/kids :D. A bit overwhelming for us newbies.
I have a question about video cameras. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations. The last video camera I used was one of those HUGE ones back when I was in high school. We've considered getting a good digital camera which also has a video camera, but are not sold on the idea of that yet.
Couperine-thanks for the recommendation!
Sarah45-I don't think I ever had issues w/ round ligament pain. I hope it gets better.
Welcome to the thread, Couperine!
I just wanted to pop in quickly to tell Sarah45 that I had round ligament pain around 17/18 weeks, I think. It happened on 3 different occasions, the worst one was when we returned home from my husbands birthday dinner. The pain was a lot more than I was expecting. I curled up in a ball on the bed, and the pain came in waves. I knew about round ligament pain because my doctor warned me about it, but at the time I didn't think that's what I was experiencing. I thought it was something I ate! DH ended up calling the doc because I was really hurting, and that's the first thing she said. I guess I was expecting more of a stretching sensation. Interesting that you describe it as a burning feeling, that's different than what I felt. Hope you're feeling better!
Pony- Have a great getaway this weekend!
Hope everyone else has a nice weekend! I'm really looking forward to catching up on some sleep! :)

Happy Friday All! I've tried posting several times but it appears as though I time out and can't retrieve my OP. Blasted BB!
Just sitting here at 27 weeks and feeling pretty good. Sleeping of course could be better but nothing to complain about. I will say I have several vericose veins attempting to make their appearance that I'm not happy about. And this may be TMI, but I am leaking a HUGE amount of colostrum. I leaked very early with DS, but seriously, this is a bit ridiculous. Anyone else sympathize? Other than that, not a whole lot going on. I have my appt on Wednesday with the Glucose test. Not looking forward to it - I've had a slight addiction to apple fritters lately and the scale is reflecting it! ;)
Welcome back Nancy! If i'm not mistaken, Ethan and Nick are around the same age? Nick will be four 1/31.
Maria - thanks for you input on the delivery thing. I'm not sure what we'll do, but probably not have DS in there for the birth. I know he'd be concerned about my pain, etc. But I think I'd be more annoyed/unfocused about his incessant talking and 50 questions. :D
Sarah - I can sympathize with the RL pain. Mine is in the form of cramping/pressure and usually rears it's head later in the evening. I just soak in a hot bath and it usually simmers down. Yay for progress - sounds like you're almost done with the nursery!
Pony - LOL, about the screaming kids/babies! :D I remember being the exact same way but I promise, the tolerance comes quick! RE: flu shot - I had one with DS but haven't had one yet with this one. I haven't decided which way to go. I've had Nick get one the last couple of years and though it may be coincidence, he always gets the crud right after. This year I haven't taken him yet. :o I guess with a new baby and him in daycare full time, I really should. No advice on the video camera - we've talked about getting one, just haven't invested. I'm sorry you're so tired. I hope you enjoy your getaway and get lots of R&R this weekend.
Helios - hang in there! There is light at the end of the tunnel. I remember having DH drive quickly over speed bumps and pot holes, I walked a ton, and tried other methods to get him to come early. Get some rest and fingers crossed for more progress!

warning... crankiness ahead!
I'm just having one of those days. I had the follow-up ultrasound today, and they estimated his weight at 8lbs 9oz. But they (hospital fetal evaluation people) keep asking about gestational diabetes, and they're sending me for the 3 hour test. So not what I want in my life at 39 weeks. I did take the 1 hour screen in August, and it was normal. They wanted me to come back to the hospital on Monday, however my doctor thinks doing it tomorrow would be better. That way if it's positive, we can induce on Tuesday. And that's one of her hospital days, so she would deliver (which honestly would be great).
BUT - the lab doesn't seem to have a number where you can actually speak to a person. Nor can I get through to my dr's office - they're still playing the afterhours message (when it doesn't ring busy). I left a message with the answering service.... but I really want someone to call me back because it's getting late on a Friday and they won't give me the test without a referral.
I wish baby boy would just decide to come tonight and save me from all of this!
Speaking of - experienced moms - I think I passed what was clearly part of the mucus plug this AM. I've had a few "maybe?" moments in the past few weeks, but this seemed pretty clear. If you passed yours with previous children, how long before labor ensued? My midwife friend said 24-36 hours... but online searches are telling me it could be days or weeks still. Just curious....

Helios--I lost my mucus plug on a Friday morning and felt off (lots of, is this it? moments on and off) all weekend. Baby was born on Monday. Here's to big baby boys-- mine weighed 9 lb, 11 oz. More to squeeze.
Hang in there honey, it will all be over soon! :D

Helios - I don't remember losing my plug with DS, sorry! :o Only do I vividly remember my water breaking. Do you think it was your plug or "bloody show"? Regardless, I hope nature picks up the pace for you. What if you called the dr's office and pressed the button for doctors/pharmacies to get through, apologize for hitting the wrong button and then hit up whomever answers about talking to the doctor? Not exactly nice, but if you're urgent...
Keep us posted!

Thanks mabvt and Fancyn for the feedback.
Oh, I'm using the answering service. I've called twice with attempts to reach the office staff, and just called again with an attempt to reach my doctor to figure out plan B since it doesn't look like I can keep this appt tomorrow without a referral form.
It's just frustrating... I didn't sleep well last night and would really like to take a nap but can't knowing I have to listen for (and get) the phone.:mad::mad:

Thanks for the kind welcomes again everyone!
With DS1, I never noticed the mucus plug, but my usual secretions started turning light pinkish a couple of days before I went into labor.
I really hope you go into labor soon, Helios7; you sound so frustrated and definitely ready for some joy.

Okay.. referral was faxed to DH. Appointment is on...
What a whole lot of drama for nothing... can't believe this took all afternoon to resolve. At least it's resolved now --- and I'm exhausted. Hopefully that will mean I can go to bed early tonight... since it'll be an early morning.
Thanks for support and listening to me vent everyone! :o

I never noticed whether or not I lost my mucous plug. I walked around for 3 weeks at 3cm dilated before Madeleine decided to make an appearance so you figure I must have lost it at some point.
I ended up in L&D the day before she was born because I was spotting bright red but they sent me on my way since I wasn't having contractions. The spotting never stopped but contractions finally started that night.

Well, we survived the 3hr GTT and are still here. Even DH is starting to beseech baby boy to COME OUT already. Poor guy... he's been saving vacation for the time after the baby arrives, and hasn't had more then a day here or there off all year. He's ready for some time off!
The test itself was pretty blah, but I expected that. DH was a trooper and came with me, so I could snuggle up to him in between draws. I think the draws were the worst.... I look like a junkie with 3 sticks on the left arm and one on the right. I think they stopped using the right once they realized I was due this week... got to save something for the IV.
So my doctor should be calling this morning with the results. And if its positive, we'll be inducing tomorrow. If it's not.... ? I feel as though she would be amenable to an inducement because of the risk of his size, and i feel conflicted. I'm ready to be done, I'm in a fair amount of physical distress and being wracked by headaches (stress much?). BUT, I'm also very respectful of nature's process, if he's not ready yet he's not ready yet etc.... even though tomorrow would be perfect as I'd be out of the hospital before my mom arrives on Friday. I've had mild contractions from last night through this AM pretty regularly, and was hopeful. But they seem to have gone away now.....

I hope your doctor gives you good news - I knew I was going to wind up induced with David, and it was hard waiting for my OB to finally make up her mind that it was time. Try to get some rest if you can - if you do get induced, it's the last good sleep you'll get for a while. :)

Wow. I heard back already! No GD, which is a great news. So induction is off the table until 41 weeks. I'm thrilled she feels that way, as I do know it is the right choice. But part of me would have LOVED a reason (perhaps not GD) to induce as I am so uncomfortable and tired of living waiting for the shoe to drop.
But, I guess I'll have to deal a bit longer. Maybe I'll go for an (uncomfortable) walk later... try to get things going.

helios - I don't remember passing my plug with DS, but I definitely saw it with DD. It was at least a week or two before I went into labor. However, with both pregnancies, I had bloody show and then had a baby within a day and half later. So if you see blood, it's time! My bloody show was really slight with both, but I was on the lookout! I had some pinkish discharge with Gabe and with Ada, it was just slighly blood-streaked the day before my due date. I went into labor the next night and had her the following mornig.
As for me, just hanging out out at almost 23 weeks ... getting big. Nothing remarkable happening.

Heather, sending you lots of good thoughts- here's hoping baby boy decides he's good and ready SOON!
Almost at 30 weeks here (I think- I keep losing track). Dr. appt. this morning and heartbeat sounds great. Failed my 1-hour glucose test by 1 point, so I need to do the 3-hour- blah. Same thing happened with my pregnancy with DS (including failing by just one point!), and I'm hopeful the end result will also be the same- no GD. Baby boy is moving a lot, especially in the middle of the night, and DS Ryan got to feel a few good kicks yesterday, which he was really excited about. :) For reasons unknown, DS has decided to refer to the baby as "Baby Chuckles"- I'm hoping this is from a book or something- no idea how he'd have come up with it on his own!

Hanging out here at 11+ weeks. Finally broke out the maternity pants this morning. No way were my pants buttoning comfortably.
Sarah - soory, I missed this queston earlier. A lot of people here at work (I work for a large avionics company - can you guess ;) ) go to Pediatric Center on 10th St, CR. One of the doctors there is a wife of one of the guys I used to work with.
Personally, Madeleine goes with me to my family doctor. I like her and trust her. I don't know if it is common with peds or just in this area, but I hear a lot of stories on how they have to wait, often 2 days, for their sick child to be seen. The few times I have had to bring her in I have had no problem.
I have heard not so good things about CR Pediatrics - things like you can have a yearly check-up scheduled for months and they just turn around and cancel on you and reschedule for a month or 2 down the road. Doesn't instill a lot of confidence and it is also a pain since you only have a 1 month leeway on physicals for state laws (e.g., for daycare) and they are pushing you out 2.
Hi everyone.
We got back yesterday from Austin. It was nice. I love that city! We ate some really good food. On Saturday, I stuffed myself on an amazing BLT and these really good lightly battered fries. We ordered the peanut butter chocolate pie to go :D. I had the worst heartburn ever!!! I have not thrown up at all during this pg and I threw up on Saturday night! I couldn't believe it. I barely slept and just felt horrible, but wonderful after I threw up, ha!
We went to this cool baby boutique store so I could try out this glider and ottamon. http://www.montedesign.net/images/shop/glider/glider_sto_sto_sto.jpg
However, it is $1500 and I can not justify that!!! I sure do love it though.
Last night, the baby was out of control moving and flipping. Much more powerful then usual and today the doctor said the head is down! yay!! I hope it stays. It seems like it has been, b/c it's little head is right on my bladder :D.
Has anyone used a My Breast Friend (http://www.mybrestfriend.com/) pillow before? It is like a Boppy, but supposedly provides better support for bf. I keep hearing about it on the Pregtastic podcasts. It is just a few bucks more then a Boppy. I think I will get one to see what it is like. I hate the name though!
Couperine-I should have gotten some Zantac for the weekend!
fancyn-Sorry about the colostrum. I've read about women dealing with the leaking, but it hasn't happened to me yet. Good luck with the GD test. Hopefully the results will be in after Thanksgiving :).
helios7-I missed a lot this weekend! I'm so glad you did not fail the GD test, but sooo sorry you are uncomfortable. I'm getting there ;). But you are sooooo close and I'm sooo excited for you!!!
Jen-I'm glad things are going well for you and baby.
Stephanie-that is wild that you failed by 1 pt. last time too. My baby is moving a lot more at night these days as well. It doesn't wake me up, but it sometimes prevents me from falling asleep.
Bawstinn-Enjoy the comfiness of maternity pants :). I will miss my maternity clothes. I've been so comfortable in them, well most of them.

Hi Michelle! Sounds like you had a fun weekend! ;)
Yay for your baby being head down finally - maybe it was the chocolate peanut butter pie that did it!
Re: "My Breast Friend Pillow" - the lactation consultants use them at the hospital where I delivered. I like it better than the Boppy (which I have) because Maya always seemed to get wedged in between me and the rounded edge of the Boppy instead of staying on top of it. But since I already had the Boppy and didn't use it much, I couldn't justify buying another pillow. The only thing I really like about the Boppy is that I can use it to prop up Maya - she used to take [supervised] naps curled up in the middle.
Helios - wow, you're so close! Hang in there!
Hi Everybody!
Helios- Glad to hear you don't have GD. Hang in there, you're getting so close!
Pony- Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend away (except for the throwing up part)! I love that glider you found. It's amazing how $$$ they can be! Thanks for the link on the bf pillow (I dislike the icky name, too.) I have not heard of it, I'm going to check out the link you included.
Gertdog- Sorry you failed your one hour glucose test. Hope the results are the same as when you had your DS. I have to take my one hour test this week sometime.
DH and I went shopping for baby stuff this weekend. I found a glider/rocker that I love love love. It's a bit more $$$ than I was hoping to spend, but I envision myself spending lots of time in it, so does that justify the expense? We're narrowing down our crib choices, so I feel like we're making progress. Poor dh, my pregnant mind is constantly changing direction, and it's nearly impossible for me to make up my mind on things!
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Tami, thanks for the info! I don't have a Boppy yet, so I might go ahead and get this pillow. I do like that the Boppy serves multiple purposes for the baby besides just a feeding pillow. I have such a bad back/neck that I was intrigued by this pillow. Hope Maya is doing well...have a great Thanksgiving :)

I want to see what you found...do you have a link? I agree, the glider is something you will be spending lots of time in! That is why I want the one I posted ;). The good thing about the one I posted is that it would look perfect in the living room, so we would use it as an everyday chair as well. I need to stop talking like I'm getting it. I already know I'm too cheap :p

Okay, here's a link (http://www.bestchairs.com/bcpublic/productDetail.do?option=&product=1577&category=JU)to the chair I found. It's made by Best Chairs, a part of the Storytime Series. It was so unbelievably comfortable...I didn't want to get up. Oh, it has a gliding ottoman to go with it.
ETA: You should get your chair! You're right, it would look great in any room. Can't you justify it that way?

I had a hard time using any of the pillows mentioned for breastfeeding. Lactation consultant thought it was because of how tall I was - couldn't ever get comfortable. I used a couple of regular pillows and it worked nicely for us.
I also loved having the Boppy. You can use it to help prop them up a little so they aren't always flat on the back of their head. Madeleine loved beng propped up and looking around. A lot of the time that stopped her from crying. She was a very nosy baby - always had to check everything out.
I am actually home from work today as Madeleine woke up with both eyes glued shut. I had originally planneed on taking tomorrow off through next Tuesday as my IL's are in town. Maybe imagining it but now my eyes are itchy. Sigh. It is a given I will end up with pink eye but I am guessing I won't be able to use drops.

Thanks for all the feedback on mucus plug experiences... still nothing happening so I just don't know. Still waiting.
Baby boy and I had an appt yesterday, and i was disappointed to have only progressed to barely 2 cm. The dr stretched my cervix.. which really wasn't a whole lot of fun (both during or after) but I'm not optimistic about it having much effect. I fear we're looking at next week, although she did remind me he could come at any time. There's no prereq for labor - things can happen quickly. So we'll see. He was playing hide and seek with her when she was trying to hear his heartbeat... he kept turning away and kicking! She thought it was quite funny. So he's doing well, and has been quite boisterous lately. Any ideas on how to make things less comfy for him??? ;)
So... today's big project is going to the grocery store.. which so doesn't sound fun. I'm having permanent mild cramping (perhaps from his size and weight?) so pushing a cart around doesn't sound appealing. But DH and I held off on buying stuff for Thanksgiving as we didn't know if we'd be here or not. So it must be done. Tomorrow DH will be off through Sunday which will be nice, and my mom arrives on Friday. At least the solo waiting is coming to an end....
Bawstinn - hope the pink eye skips you, and moves on from your DD quickly.
Kabs, pony and other chair discussion people - I love our glider (when baby boy isn't jammed up under my ribs making sitting uncomfortable). I personally thought it a great investment (at least pre-birth) hopefully that feeling will continue once he's here.
Pillow discussion - I'm intrigued by the breastfeeding pillow discussion. I have a boppy, but am seriously considering getting a My Brest Friend as well. I have credit at Babies R Us from returning a second Boppy we were given, so could get it essentially for free. I confess I was sitting with the Boppy the other day trying to imagine how it would work for feeding since it seemed low. I guess you'd put pillows underneath to raise it up?
Stephanie - I definitely feel your pain about the 3hr GTT. Hopefully you'll pass again, and it'll just be a major annoyance. Wishing you non-junkie arm vibes!:D

Re: the boppy - I loved it; when you use it, you are making a baby sandwich, Boppy, baby, and breast. My girls are located lower on my torso than I'd prefer and are rather large anyway, so there were no distance issues for me. You won't know for sure about how it works until you have your baby, and there are a variety of positions you can feed in where the pillow is positioned differently.
Good luck shopping today - at least your day will go by a little faster. :)

Heather- my doctors don't do internal exams until labor starts so I've no idea how I progressed pre-labor, but when I did start active labor with DS, I was only 2 cm at the first check- so take heart in what your doc says about things happening at any time! Good luck with the shopping, too.
Re: Boppy- I only attempted to BF Ryan for a few weeks before we went to pumping only (and later formula) but I did not care for the Boppy when I did use it- had the same experience that tholbrook did. And I definitely needed pillows under it to get DS to the right height to nurse.
Hi all. I'm at work today :(. This is the first Thanksgiving week that I've worked! I usually go home or to the in-law's! It was nice this AM, b/c there was no traffic.
My friend had her baby yesterday :). I am going to go see them later. She delivered in the same hospital I will be delivering and we have the same doctor. Can't wait to meet the little man and hear how things went.
I hate mentioning this on the boards ;), but I am in A LOT of pain b/c of hemorrhoids ! I am not even constipated, but I guess just the pressure of the baby is causing them. I told my husband that this might be worse pain then labor :D.
re: bf pillows...thanks for everyones imput. I like hearing what works/doesn't work for everyone. I think I'm going to get the Brest Friend pillow and see how it works. I've seen some boppy's for sale on craigslist for $10-15.
kabs-I like that glider! I think SusanPC has the same one. I actually really liked one of their recliners and was considering getting it, but now we are just not sure. I need to make a decision, b/c of shipping timeframes!
Bawstinn-how are you two doing? Did you get pink eye? My husband had it earlier on in my pg and the doctor told me I would not be able to use the drops. I hope you can avoid it.
helios7-I'm glad the baby is doing well in there. What if you put some cold compresses on your belly????? I thought of that, b/c one of the things they recommended for turning your baby head down was to put a bag of peas on the top of your stomach. Maybe baby boy will get a bit chilled and want to come out :p. Good luck at the store!! I went yesterday and it was crazy. Of course, I forgot dog food, so have to head out there again today.
Couperine-ha! I have the opposite problem then you! I thought I was growing in the boob dept. earlier on in the pg, but I'm still barely an A cup! Maybe I will get to be a B when the milk comes in :).

You might want to do everything in the universe possible to help your hemorrhoids before you deliver - the pushing phase is where many women get post-partum ones /hugs hugs hugs. I sure hope you're getting pain meds. Ah yes I forgot - another way to use your Boppy!
Enjoy seeing the new baby today!

Oh Happy Day! I'm so excited this is my Friday - now for the work day to just hurry up and end. I LOVE the gliders you all posted! I'm trying to convince myself I dont' need one. We had one when DS was born and it broke. Right now I have an antique rocking chair that we plan on using. I love it but it's not near as comfy. It's torture! :D
Had my glucose test FINALLY yesterday after my appt. was rescheduled twice. I ended up seeing a midwife and it was a pretty brief one-on-one. As far as the results go, my office doesn't give them on the spot so I'll find out next week. I also got another sonogram scheduled for the second week of December. While I'm so excited to see my little girl again, I hope nothing is wrong. At the last one, they thought they saw a partial blockage of one kidney. My doctor didn't seemed to be phased in the least but the hubby and I are concerned.
ha! I have the opposite problem then you! I thought I was growing in the boob dept. earlier on in the pg, but I'm still barely an A cup! Maybe I will get to be a B when the milk comes in . Double Ha! :D You are describing me to the "T". My boobs didn't really get much bigger last time either and when my milk came in, it looked like I had miniature boulder implants! It was quite entertaining. They were these perfectly round size A's (Maybe even a small B ) but they looked fake. DH and I were quite entertained. Sending boobalicious vibes your way! :D
Helios - Maybe he'll rear his head ;) on Thanksgiving. Hang in there!

Well, so much for a Thanksgiving baby! Today's his due date, and he seems quite content. Although for some reason I keep expecting things to start in the AM... I keep trying to remind myself that things can start at any time. My doctor is on call all weekend, so if this is the weekend it will be a good one.
My mom also arrives today... so that's something else I'm looking forward to.
fancyn - I'm dreading the increase once milk comes in. I'm not small to begin with, got bigger once the pregnancy hit the second tri... and the thought of getting bigger again just terrifies me. :) But I'll cope.
Pony - sorry about the hemorrhoids. I think I've been safe so far, but they don't sound like fun. At all. Feel better. Why is so much of pregnancy just seem intended to embarrass us from all different angles?
Stephanie - thanks for the encouraging words. I'm trying my best to hang in there.
Couperine - Thanks for the Boppy feedback.
Happy Black Friday everyone. Hope everyone's Thanksgiving was great!
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. It ended up just being us two, b/c my friend had her baby and she was d/c'ed on Thanksgiving. He is soooo cute and precious. She gave me all the details of her labor. This is her 2nd baby. I'm still up in the air about pain meds, but she definitely made it look quite nice to have an epidural (her husband videotaped some of the labor!). She looked fabulous. For my shower, she got me one of these Girlie Gowns (http://girliegowns.com/store/WsDefault.asp?One=10) :) and she had hers on.
Things have been going fine here....my butt pain is going away :p. Thankfully!!!! I'm going a bit crazy about the house. It is just so cluttered right now w/ stuff and stuff from the garage. I just feel very unorganized. I was reading the Dr. Sears Baby Book and there was a comment in there for the husbands that said, "to upset the nest is to upset the mother". I feel like I need to wear a t-shirt with this quote on it right now ;).
I have some pressure today, more then usual. I'm assuming it is just braxton-hicks, but I will keep my eye on it for the rest of the day.
helios7-so are you still at home!

What brand is the one you love? I *may* be able to help you find it for a lot cheaper....no promises though.
Susan, your glider looks great. The one we fell in love with is by Monte Design. Here is their website. :)

It's the Luca Glider. It is one of my favorite things I've seen in a long time!!!! :)
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. Ours was great. It was pretty low-key as far as major holidays go, so it was nice to relax a little! We've spent lots of time at the baby store looking at furniture, and I think we've (I've) made up our minds. Furniture to be ordered this week! Susanpc- glad to hear good reviews of the company that makes the glider we're going to purchase, thanks!
I'm feeling some stretching these days, the BUN must be growing a lot in there. If I'm on my feet a lot, I'm pretty sore by the end of the day. I also have been feeling this tightening sensation in my lower abdomen a couple of times a day. Is this normal? It's not painful, or I would have called the doctor. But, I thought I would ask here. Are those braxton-hicks, or some other weird pregnancy ache or pain? Wasn't sure when BH start happening...
Pony- Glad you're feeling better! Those Girly Gowns are adorable. Which pattern do you have- I'm a sucker for polka dots, and may order one for my SIL.
fancyn- Keep us posted on your next sonogram. Sending healthy wishes to your little one!
Helios- Are you still here? How are you feeling?
Have a good week, everyone! I'm so thankful to have today off- I needed just one more day before going back to work. :)

kabs- I'd guess you're feeling Braxton-Hicks contractions. Still worth mentioning them to your doctor on your next visit, or if they become painful or super-frequent, but your description sounds like my experience of BH last time around.
Based on a few comments on Helios's facebook page, I think her DS arrived safe and healthy sometime over the weekend- can't wait to hear from her! :)

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't know she was on FB. I will have to go find her!
kabs, I have been having BH more lately. They were on and off quite a bit on Saturday. Well, I assume they are BH, no pain, no consistency, just tightness on and off. I hear the recommendation is drink water :) and rest. In my childbirthing class, the RN said it is the uterus preparing itself. She said it is similiar to someone training for a run, you aren't going to just go out there and run, you train and stretch :)
