Hi, folks --

By now, we've all established that we love Penzey's and the Spice House and a few other online places to shop. So I thought I'd share with you some of my own favorites and ask you for yours. Out there somewhere is the culinary discovery I've been waiting for -- so tell me where it is!

My own favorites:
Beans and grains: Indian Harvest - www.indianharvest.com
Italian foods (check out their monthly subscription plan): A. G. Ferrari - www.agferrari.com
Cheese: iGourmet - www.igourmet.com
Asian (esp. Chinese): Oriental Pantry - www.orientalpantry.com
Sausage/salami (if you eat meat): Fortuna's Sausage - www.nvo.com/soupy/

I await with slavering mouth and trembling credit card everyone else's contributions.:D

Cheers,
Phoebe

I buy my yummy Poi muffins at their website. They are Hawaiian-made English muffins that are chewy and delicious! I can't find them here, so I order from them directly. They freeze very well, so I stock up. At 70 calories per muffin, you can't beat them! I'm on Weight Watchers, and they're only 1 point!

Hiya Phoebe,

People have heard me sing their praises before, but this gives me another opportunity - American Spoon Foods - www.spoon.com . It's a Michigan company (of course). I am now a jam and jelly snob, thanks to them. Their spoon fruit is jelly sweetened with fruit juice only. Their dried cherries, cranberries and blueberries cannot be beat. Craisins? Ick!!!

We use their adobo sauce for tacos, fajitas, and any other dish that might need that smoky flair. Around the holidays you can get their chocolate fruitcake - sounds odd, but it's very, very good - and I am not a fruit cake eater in the least.

I'm adore their Fruit Perfect Marionberries mixed with fat-free vanilla yogurt. I have a jar of the Fruit Perfect Strawberry Rhubarb, but I have yet to open it.

There are dozens of other products of theirs that I use, but I'm at a loss at this moment. I'd have to pull up the web site and jar my memory........

Their timeliness and customer service cannot be beat. I order on Monday, and I receive no later than Wednesday, regular shipping. Of course they're here in the state (but the closest store is about 4 hours away from me), so if you're outside of Michigan it might be a day or two longer, but not much.

Please check them out - and let me know what you think.

Jennifer I didn't see a website in your post. Were you referring to one of the sites listed in Phoebe's post? Are the poi muffins also called Hawaiin Bread?

Thanks for this thread! I used to lurk some other sites like tavolo that seem to have vanished, so I'm glad to find a new place to search for goodies!

I love the store A Southern Season, ( www.southernseason.com )which has been mentioned elsewhere, but you probably don't want to order their chocolates or other meltables in the summer heat.

I am a big fan of King Arthur Flour for my specialty flour and baking needs. I love their pastry flour and pie filling enhancer. Ooooh, I also have gotten yeast and bread dough enhancer that works great. Their scone mixes are wonderful too.

You can find them at:

I haven't actually bought anything from Ethnic Grocer, but I have heard good things about them

Mmm, Sandy, thanks for reminding me about American Spoon Foods. I just did some heavy-duty drooling over their web site, and as soon as I leave here I think I'll order some of that adobo sauce. Have you ever tried their Smoky Ketchup (or Catsup, before we get into another online poll)? How about the Pumpkin Chipotle Sauce?

Saucily,
Phoebe

Well, I don't order too much food online, but I do order from H&H Bagels and they do have online ordering. They are actual NY bagels. Not "NY style" bagels - actual genuine NY bagels. They are wonderful and just like I remember rom home (gee- guess where I grew up?) Anyway - they are expensive, but very worth it. You can eat them fresh the first day you get them, but then you really need to freeze the rest or they will go stale (which is exactly what would happen if you bought any bagel in person anyway.

Well - they have great service and are delicious bagels. Their website is www.hhbagels.com

I have also had American Spoon Foods products and ordered from King Arthur Flour - didn't realize that they both had websites! How cool is that!

I whole-heartedly endorse Sandy's suggestion for American Spoon Foods! Can't live without their fat-free maple cream!

Another Michigan store that sells online is Zingerman's Deli (www.zingermans.com) in Ann Arbor. Positively the best deli on the planet.

For indulgence, try Zapp's Potato Chips (www.zapps.com). These are the ones that Emeril is often talking about on his show.

Harry & David (www.harryanddavid.com) is also online. We've also come to enjoy Dan's Chocolates (www.danschocolates.com) - very good & very reasonably priced, especially for gifts.

Here's another thumbs-up for Zingerman's (http://www.zingermans.com/). If you are ever in Ann Arbor Michigan you absolutely have to go to this place. I have never seen so many different kinds of olive oil in my life! Our favorite indulgence is to mail-order their "rockin' reuben sandwich kit" - exorbitant price, but tastes just like being there. The have several clubs you can join (bread, cheese, etc.) that will send you stuff on a regular basis. I've always wanted to try their cheese club!

Hi Phoebe,

The ketchup (do people really say cat-sup???????) is one of the items I forgot to mention. It is very nice. But I've never had the Pumpkin Chipotle Sauce. I'm wondering if that's a new item, or something I've just glazed over.......

I had the Fruit Perfect Strawberry Rhubarb with my Stoneyfield Farms Vanilla Yogurt today for lunch - mmmmmmmmm is it good!!!

Their wildflower honey is awesome, and the only honey I use. I've not tried the maple cream Ralph - what do you use it for?

I kave some ASF Kiwi Lime Salsa in my pantry that I haven't decided what to use it for. It just sounded too intriguing! The ingredients are kiwi, pineapple, sugar, lime juice, green chilies, jalapeno chili, pineapple juice, onion, banana puree, garlic, cilantro, cornstarch, cumin, salt, chili powder, oregano, and habanero chilies. Any thoughts on that one??? :D

LeighAnne- I love the reuben sandwhich kit idea. My mother loves reubens, and I thought I might send a kit for her B-Day. Which kind of meat do you get when you order it?

I, too love King Arthur flour. They have wonderful items in their Vermont store, including a yummy bakery. I love their Madagasscar Bourbon Vanilla extract which puts McCormicks to shame. Expensive, but well worth the difference. They also have a non melting confectionary sugar that you can sprinkle onto cakes and have it remain looking like sugar coating.

For the Kiwi lime salsa, I would use it with roasted or grilled chicken or a broiled white fish like flounder or sole, or with grilled shrimp. It sounds delicious,

:) Amanda Amanda:
Here's a link that explains all the options for "zingerman's rockin' reuben sandwich kit ". Basically you can get either turkey, corned beef, or pastrami. We have always gotten turkey. Also comes w/ potato salad, pickles, and magic brownies (which are *so* delicious!)

(if the link doesn't work, go to www.zingermans.com and search for "reuben")

LeighAnne-

Thanks for the reply, I just saw it. Now I know I will go with the Turkey Reuben. It will be perfect for part of my B-day gift to my mother. I know she will enjoy it. Thank you! :)
