Hi,

I didn't see a November thread.:)

So we're officially starting clomid. I have an u/s scheduled for Tuesday to check timing of ovulation then we'll figure out when to do the HCG shot. DH is getting a swimmer analysis this week and that will determine if it will be at home the good old fashioned way or in the office with an IUI.

Can anyone tell me what to expect? I'm a little nervous and terrified it won't work the first time. I really want it to work.:(

Are you asking about Clomid or about IUI in general?

For this pregnancy we needed to do IUI due to a male factor issue. Since it was known to be a male factor issue, I opted to go the unmedicated route to start, so I am no help on the Clomid front.

Believe me, I know how much you want it to work the first time, but it still is, unfortunatley, a matter of timing. Our RE's office says the average is 6 IUI's but #5 worked for us (over 11 months), and that was with low swimmer count.

As for the 'procedure' itself, it was no more involved than going for a yearly PAP. I think they monitor you more closely than they did me (no monitoring except an initial u/s to check out stuff).

Good luck!

I have PCOS which led to annovulation. We did six rounds of clomid last year before our little guy came along. The last one (and successful one) was with an IUI. I was also on metformin.

As for what you can expect, hot flashes, bad attitude, bloating, and headaches are common I think. I know I had all of them, but not until I got to the 150 mg dose. Where are you starting? I think 50 is where they usually start your first cycle.

Good luck.

Christy - I think Maria and 2Hungry pretty much covered the answers to your questions. But I wanted to invite you to join the regular vets thread - Leah and I made an "executive decision" not to start a November thread and just keep the October one going. I just posted over there and bumped it up. The usual tradition is to give a little introduction about how long you've been trying, any known issues, etc.

I was a TTC vet once upon a time and I took Clomid before I got pg with DS1. I didn't care for it...it made me moodier and gave me awful headaches. I got pg on the third cycle and unlike my first two pregnancies, that one stuck and I had my son. My pg with DS2 was a surprise and I didn't take Clomid.
