Congratulations!!!

Enjoy baby Jared - he will grow fast! Take lots of pictures, too. Amanda has already changed so much - I've almost forgotten what she was like when she was really a newborn! :o

Congratulations. IMO children are the most blessed gift that we can receive. DH told me yesterday (we were at the Coast Guard Day picnic) that when we go out as a family he gets the most joy just from watching DD have fun.

"Babies come into the world holding all of heaven's joy in their hands. And when they open those small fingers, the whole world's supply is replenished again."

Christine, thanks for taking the time to share the good news! Looks like your gut instinct was right when you didn't believe the new date of the 25th. Congratulations to all THREE of you.
WELCOME BABY JARED!

Okay, I think I might have a few minutes to write a few details, for those of you who are curious. But first, shoyski, are ready?!? You're next! :D

Labor: My water broke on Wednesday morning at 4:22, but I wasn't really sure if that was it. By about 6, I was pretty positive, but I wasn't having any contractions, so it was weird. When I got to the hospital, they did a test to see if I was leaking amniotic fluid or if was urine. I think they thought I was peeing and just didn't want to admit it. There are two things to determine if it's amniotic fluid: the test paper turns blue and a pattern like a fern appears. After numerous tests, I wasn't "ferning" or dilated at all, so they sent me home.

Well, after leaking all day, I called my doctor in the evening, and she was doing a delivery at a different hospital, but told me she would check me personally if I wanted to drive down there. My DH was at class, and I still wasn't having what I thought were "real" contractions, so I drove myself the hospital. When I got there, wouldn't you know, my doctor said my water had broken, I was 3 cm dilated and 70% effaced. She was really mad that the nurses at the first hospital had sent me home.

Since I had been up since 4 am, and it was now about 10:30 I was exhausted. My dr said I should rest and could get the epidural, if I wanted it, whenever I thought was best. I ended up getting it earlier than I thought I would, just so I could sleep for awhile. At 1 a.m. the nurse came in and woke me up to tell me I needed to get ready to start pushing. Basically I slept through all my hard contractions. She had to watch the monitor and tell me when I was having a contraction so that I would know when to push!

Delivery: The doctor got there about 3, and by then I could tell when I was having a contraction by a real mild cramp type feeling. After about two hours of puching, Jared came out face up and had his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck twice. Because he was born "sunnyside up" his head was a little traumatized coming through the birth canal. It was not really a conehead, but it had more of snowman look, like two little round heads on top of one other. The whole "top" head was beat up pretty bad, and was really red with a two abrasions. :(

We stayed at the hospital until Saturday and have been trying to rest up here since then.

He was looking a little jaundice on yesterday, so when we took him to the dr they did lab work to test his billirubin levels. They were too high, so at 9:30 last night the pediatrician called and told me that I needed to take him to the hospital. He said I could have the levels retested or admit him. I really didn't want to admit him, so after four hours, his level had dropped slightly and they let us take him home. He was retested again today, I jsut got the good news that levels dropped even further! Yay!

Sorry this is so long.... I guess I get carried away. I'm going to post my breastfeeding experiences so far on that thread when I have some more time.

Hope all is well with you.

shoyski- pack a suitcase! I had to throw things together at 6 am!
