I'm on a break from the kitchen :cool:and just waiting on the sweet potatoes to finish roasting before I'm back in there. Sitting here enjoying a glass of champagne (we sold the bar yesterday and this was leftover from our celebration last night). Turkey Dinner is scheduled for 2:00pm since DH requires a turkey sandwich the same day!
Happy Thanksgiving to All CL BBers and your families!

2:00 p.m., and I'm not hosting. :) It's a nice break. We'll leave at about 1:30. I'm still in my pajamas & about to hit the shower, then bake my sweet potatoes & dressing (already made), and package up my Pumpkin Banana Mousse Tart & Blackberry Mousse for transport. Then I may work on my Xmas-shopping list. I had no intention of shopping on Black Friday, but some of the "doorbuster" specials may lure me in.
Happy Turkey Day, everyone! :D

3pm at a friend's house. We'll probably leave here around 1:30 to get to their place by 2 at the latest. My whole berry cranberry sauce was made last night and is in the fridge nice and chilled. Just finished making the 2 sauces for the bread pudding. Gulliver's corn and New Orleans style bread pudding are next and then I'll be done cooking. I'll do those so they are coming out of the oven right about 1:30 so they can be wrapped up tight and stay nice and warm until we get to our friend's house where they can be rewarmed if necessary.

we were supposed to eat at 2pm at a relative's home.
just got a call from her saying that when she returned, after being out, the house was full of smoke from the turkey juices flowing out of pan and into oven bottom
my husband just went there with some large fans to air out the place
gonna hope for the best.
I made Pioneer Woman's creamy mashed potatoes and they came out great. will heat in oven before heading out
have a great day everyone

No, Ana, you didn't miss a thread. I hadn't said anything because I was afraid it wouldn't go through.:rolleyes:We sold it to the "friends" we renovated it for and we actually co-signed the loan (so it could still fall through). But nothing is in our name as far as liability on the day-to-day stuff...our liquor license expires Dec 31st and then he's on his own!

We are due at my Mom's house at 2pm. Usually we don't eat right away...probably 3pm or later. I was in charge of the Brussels Sprouts (roasted, as per Mark Bittman) and the cranberry sauce, which is still bubbling away.
My ex SIL's dog will be there too! I can't wait to see that little furball. :)

Eating at 6-ish to accommodate the boys who are also eating on the early shift at the girls' houses...
All I have left to do is stuff the bird & get it in the oven. Made the pie, the mashed potato casserole & the broccoli casserole (yeah I know it's not exactly traditional but it's a family fave) yesterday. I even cooked up the onions & celery for the stuffing yesterday so I'm just reheating that now.

LOL! Of any extended family members I think that would be the best of the best! We have MIL's dog staying with us for a week while she's off to visit relatives in North Carolina. And since she cleaned her plate this morning(finally adjusted to being her on her own ;)) she will get a few bits of turkey today!:D

With the help of some good friends, we just finished making the big dinner for the children's home (turkey, potatoes, gravy, cranberry applesauce, green beans, rolls, apple pie, pumpkin pie). We broke down and decided to eat our own dinner out this year; reservations are at 6:30.

Like Bob we have dinner reservations- 6pm this year. This is a first but I'm happy with it. I made a thanksgiving-y dinner last night- roasted cauliflower, carrots and brussels sprouts, rainbow chard, cranberry salsa, and baked potatoes (sweet for me) with pumpkin muffins and a whole foods cherry pie for dessert (it was only me eating the pie and cherry is my fave and wf makes a great vegan cherry pie).
dh is in a golf tournament tomorrow so we are putting up our tree- just taking a break now for a snack- the leftover roasted cauliflower (yum)
now to go and decorate the dog- he has a christmas collar;):D

We're headed to a family friends' home around 5 (in the same neighborhood in Vail). Sugared cranberries are done, just need to do the mixing on the Chipotle Mashed Sweet Potatoes while my auntie finishes the grilled artichoke appetizers and does the hazlenut green beans. We did the Turkey Trot this morning which I ran/walked with the dog and wore him out completely so we're all going down for a short nap now. I love lazy days like this.

Our friends are scheduled to come over after the kids get up from their naps, we will try to eat around 5ish. We'll see - turkey went into the oven about 45 min ago, and is roasting away.
Mashed potatoes got done yesterday, and are in the fridge and will be re-warmed in the crockpot, DH is in charge of the chipotle sweet potatoes, DD made pumpkin muffins yesterday and so all that is left besides the gravy is the green beans. Will get those cut later. Appetizers will be fruit, cheese, crackers and sugared cranberries.
Just some last-minute cleaning yet to be done, and if it doesn't happen so be it - these are good friends and so don't need to have the house "company ready" for them :p
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

We are planning on around 3:00. It is very casual as it is just the 6 of us. The kids are swimming and watching Hairspray (my oldest is sleeping ). I am doing a combination of washing, some accounts for work, cooking and checking out the BB.
Happy Thanksgiving to all. All in all, we have a lot to be thankful for.

Well, it's 6:45 and I project dinner close to 8PM! That is actually pretty early for me, as I mostly enjoy the prep work and then sort of lose interest. But yes, all prep work is done. Just cooking for me anyhow, so I have no one to complain to but the cook and company ;). On the menu:
Glazed Cornish game hen (my idea w/help from Libra20 and her mom)
Mozzarella and Parm mashed potatoes (based on Giada recipe)
Creamed pearl onions (Tyler Florence)
Roasted Brussels sprouts (Mollie Katzen)
Pumpkin bread pudding (Bon Appétit, as suggested by KristiB)

We ate at 2:00 pm at MIL's house. I cooked turkey breast and Grand Marnier Creme Brulée.

Well, we ended up eating around 4:30. Originally scheduled to eat at 3, because my parents and brother were driving in from Houston. They were supposed to leave Houston at 10 a.m. which would have put them in Austin around 1. At noon, my mom called to say they were just leaving. I opened up a bottle of champagne, poured myself a glass and ran a hot bath. Figured that was better than getting all worked up about my family being 2 hours late AGAIN for Thanksgiving dinner. Once they arrived, we had a lovely dinner (due in no small part to the champagne that kept flowing!):D

Romandub, you have a GREAT outlook! It would make me 1/2 crazy if someone left home two hours late, and it would make me 7/8 crazy if they didn't TELL me until two hours after the presumed D-time. Sheesh, after half an hour can't someone at least call w/an update? Anyhow, sounds like you've been through the drill before and took it in stride. If you aren't going to change others, may as well manage your own position. Bubbles of both sort sound good to me! :p
Reservations for The Bear Cafe (http://www.bearcafe.com/) at 4! :)

Bob, I love the setting! The menu and the dining room, too, of course, but the deck and environs are really appealing, and I am generally not a fan of outdoor dining; looks like a lovely portrait of fall. Hope you enjoyed!
sneezles, good luck closing out on the bar - I had no idea, but it sounds like one of those "Oh well, gave it a try" experiences. That's life.
