Hi all,

I haven't started a new thread for a while so here we go :)

Julie, ugh, that sounds miserable! Glad to hear you are on the mend. Not a fun week for you, was it :( Hope this weekend is restorative.

Meg, good luck! Just edited the subject line to say that there as well :)

No run to report today but I'm hoping there will be later. Just thought I'd pop in and say hello!

Best to all,
Nat

Thanks for starting Nat, I hope that you get out for a run today.

Meg - Fleet feet and best wishes to you tomorrow in your race. You'll do grand and it's not too surprising to me that you are doing as well as you are right now.

I too haven't run today but hopefully I can get everything done I need to this afternoon - last minute things for LW's b'day bash tomorrow, a little editing on my paper, and a run by the bank. We have a community dinner and service of Lessons and Carols this evening. Starting to feel a little stressed time-wise so I may not stay for the whole thing but I probably will. It just seems like I've got 50 hours of things scheduled this weekend (I don't know how I did that either).

Off to the races as it were. Happy trails to all.

Les, sounds like a whirlwind weekend! Enjoy the fun and festivities and please pass my best on to your LW.

I can now claim a run. I thought about running outdoors because it's lovely and bright but it's really cold and I finally decided not to. So I did about 7 1/2 km on the treadmill, and that was good.

Happy weekending to one and all (though my weekend doesn't start yet - have some work to do yet). Off to make some tea and get back at it!

Meg - Good Luck! Let us know how the race goes :)

Natasha - Great that you were able to get a run in before the weekend starts!

Les - Wow! Busy weekend. Have fun and send my best wishes to LW.

Carrie- have you visited the website runtheplanet.com? Here's a link to running routes in Paris: Run the Planet (http://www.runtheplanet.com/runningroutes/city.asp?c=7079956) I just read of this site in the new Health magazine. It's so cool!! ahem C'est cool, c'est chouette!

I enjoyed doing stair work in the early morning around the Seine when no one else was around, but it was summertime, so I had the advantage of long days.

MEG Fly like the wind tomorrow, baby!

Julie - Thanks for the link! I am about to go check it out.

I decided to drag myself out of bed early this morning to go on my long run with the local running group. Boy am I glad I did! I had an excellent time.. This group's pace is a little faster than mine so I really had to push myself. However, we ran a very nice route along a rural-looking dirt road. It was neat to be "in the country" while still in town! Afterward I joined for breakfast and that, of course, was the best part. Lots of good conversation and a great group of people. I am going to try to make it out for their Tuesday run this week as it is on my way home :)

Thank you all SO MUCH for your encouragement, support, and well wishes. I thought about you all when I was running this morning.

My race was fantastic! I had so much fun, even more than I imagined! I was excited/good nervous especially in the final minute, waiting at the starting line. But as soon as the horn blew and I started running all of my nervousness disappeared and I was just running, like I do every other day. Just surrounded by 800 other people who happen to be doing the same thing! :D My body felt great and the course was beautiful, through downtown Orlando. My time was 36:07, which is around 11:38/mile. I am very happy with my time, it's over a minute faster than my fastest home-run time. I met my goal of running the entire course without stopping and exceeded my time goal (I would have been happy under 38 minutes). It was such a fantastic experience and I can't wait to do it again! Luckily, it is race season in Florida so I have lots to choose from!

Here is a picture of me shortly afterward :), my DBF took it. He raced too and cruised in at 25:13, just over an 8 minute mile.

Carrie - Glad you had a good run with the group this morning. The part of Florida you are in is beautiful. I can't remember, are you a Gator (I know not everyone who lives in G'ville is automatically a Gator hehe). Are you watching the game today?!

Les - I hope you're having a wonderful, busy, weekend! Happy birthday to LW.

Nat - Good to get in a pre-weekend run! Will you be running inside on the treadmill for a while? It's pretty cold where you are, right?

Julie - How are you feeling? Better I hope!

I am definitely a Gator (been to most of the game this season) and will be cheering the team on today! Woohoo. Go Gators!!!!!!!

Hey gang! Spun this evening before hading off for LW's 50th. It was a great time and here's a linik to the pictures from her party on FB. Kathy's 50th Birthday party! (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=53581&l=e0be4&id=654239289)

Congratulations on your 5K, Meg! Sounds like you did super! Isn't it great when the adrenaline kicks in? :D Let us know what you set your sights on next.

Hope your wife had a happy birthday, Les. It looked like a good time in the pics! I hear you on the 50 hours in a weekend. I am meeting myself coming and going lately! Hope things settle down for you.

Good job on your run, Carrie. Sounds like a fun group!

Julie, I will have to check out that site when I have more time. Thanks for posting it....I added it to my favorites so I won't forget.

Natasha, thanks for starting this week. Good job on the TM. The temps can be deceiving when the sun is out, can't they?

Things have been out of control busy lately, although it is all good stuff. DD had a pasta party that we helped run on Thursday, and her first HS swim meet is Tuesday. This weekend I took DS to the All-state band auditions, and he did very well! Tomorrow we are headed OOT again for a college visit and audition (music majors have to audition for all of the colleges they apply to). We have DH's BD this week, 2 band concerts and a Christmas party. Oh yeah, I do have to work a 12 hour shift and go in during the week for some meetings as well! I did get over to the CC with DD this afternoon, and I did weights and EB. Don't know when I will get back this week, but I am determined to at least get my yoga in several times. No exercise day after day is the pits!

Vicci, I hope your anniversary party was fabulous. You must post a few pics and some details.

Take care everyone, and wishing you all a great week!

Meg, congratulations!! What a great race pic - you look fabulous!

Julie and Robyn, hope both of you are feeling better and able to restart your fitness routines.

Les, a belated happy birthday to your lovely wife! Great pics of the celebration. I have that same (or a very similar) hat. :o

Last week was a total wash. I had one VERRRRRRRY late night at the office (i.e. arrived at office 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, left the office at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, home to cat nap, shower, and change, back at the office at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning for another long day) and it took me DAYS to recover. I am way too old for that. Needless to say, there was no physical activity to speak of last week - no runs, no personal training, no nothing. Just getting out of bed and out the door each day was a struggle.

I got a lot of R&R this weekend and met up with my Y running buddies this morning for a tough, hilly 7-miler. It felt great! Especially after a week-long break. It was cool (but not cold), overcast, light breeze - my ideal running conditions. And this was the first time I've done this route (San Juan Road in the Phoenix South Mountains) without walking or crying. :o Hopefully this week will be a little more normal and I can get back to the gym and out on the road for runs with some more predictability.

Hi to Kathy, Carrie, Nat, Vicci, Susan, Melissa, and everyone else!

Hello runners!

Meg - congratulations on your race! You look great and beat your goal time...yay! Are you addicted to racing now?

Carrie - Go Gators! That was a great game on Saturday. I think I have gotten myself totally confused....what marathon are you running? You're training in Paris, but not running the Paris marathon, is that correct? Glad the running group was a good experience.

Aggie - your work week sounds horrible!

Kathy - as usual, your family's activities make me tired just reading about them :) I don't know how you do it! Best of luck to DS on auditions and DD at the swim meet.

Les - happy belated birthday to your LW!

Natasha - thanks for starting this week and too bad it was too chilly for an outdoor run.

KValley - still enjoying your new neigborhood?

I worked this weekend at the hospital pharmacy. They were short-staffed so it was pretty busy. On Saturday, I went for a run on the way home from work. It was colder than the weatherman predicted, so I wasn't dressed quite warm enough. It's supposed to be 50 degrees today, so I am lookng forward to a run later.

Shalom runners!! I am finally back from my week in Israel. My work event was fantastic, but more importantly -- what an absolutely incredible country!

Here's the short version:
Ran on the Tel Aviv beach twice
Jerusalem tour
Mount of Olives
Wailing Wall
Jesus' tomb
Calvary
Schindler's burial spot
Dome of the Rock
Floated in the Dead Sea
Had a mud bath at the Dead Sea
Rode a camel
Toured Masada (fortress built by King Herod!)
Ate lots, and lots and lots of hummus - yum!
Visited local farmers market and artists fair
Fresh meditteranean figs & olives - more yum!
Lots of lamb
Brought home halva and zatar spices - my new culinary favorites!

Will post a few pics later

MegMeg - congrats on your race, feeling great, & beating your target time!! You look so happy in the picture!

Aggie - I hate work weeks like that. Nice job on the hilly run

Howdy to everyone else! I haven't caught up on last week's thread at all. But, I did see that Kwormann is engaged!

After a week of sun & 70 degrees, I returned to a full-on winter. There's snow on the ground & we're getting more today. That's OK, as I can get back into the Xmas spirit! DH set up the indoor bike trainer while I was gone.

Hi all.

Susan your trip sounds incredible! Do we get to see pictures?

Meg congrats on your race and bettering your goal!

Eva your all nighter sounds miserable! I can't do that kind of stuff anymore either.

Ktg busy days at work can be great for making time pass.

Kathy you do sound busy!

Les Happy birthday to both your LW and yourself!

Hi to everyone else...

I'm going to get back at it this week. Scheduled 1 hour each of running, swimming, and strength and 2 hours of cycling. I have this crazy bee in my bonnet that if things change again coaching wise (right now I'm subbing against my wishes, hoping they'll bring me back to regular) I might do the Jingle Bell run for arthritis on Sunday. It's a 5k and I know I'd have to do a run/walk but mom has battled arthritis for over 20 years now so it sure would be nice to support that cause. We'll see what happens. I'm back to snow snobbery and waiting for a few more storms to hit before I spend much more time up there except for coaching. We need snow.

Oops, got to go. Local news station is here at the office to film us for a segment. If it gets posted online I'll share with y'all.

Susan, welcome back!! Seconding the request for pictures.

Kathy, wow, it's amazing that you fit in any workouts at all with that schedule, much less all the varied workouts you do manage to do! I'm also constantly impressed by the range of activities your kids do. The pasta party sounds like fun. I hadn't realized your son was so serious about his music - cool stuff. My sister majored in music (I think we may have had this conversation before; if so, ignore me ;)) and she had some awesome experiences.

Meg, big congratulations!! Sounds like a fun day. I hadn't realized your DBF was a runner, too. It's nice when you can share an interest like that, isn't it? It is cool / cold here much fof the winter but really most days you can run outdoors. I just wimp out on some of them since I have the treadmill, but before then I was more hardcore and just dealt with it ;) I still enjoy the bracing outdoor runs but do a mix of outdoor and indoor runs.

Robyn, good luck with the busy training week and I hope you do manage to fit in the run this weekend.

Les, awesome photos from LW's party!! Sounds like a blast was had by all. You both look great - very happy and relaxed.

ktg, did you get in your balmy run today?

Eva, that's awesome about your progress on the hilly route. about that workday. I remember having a few of those days when preparing for a trial.

Vicci, so how was the big party?! You're probably recovering by sitting in a comfy chair with your feet up and a nice glass of wine or something. I hope :)

Carrie, glad you enjoyed the group run and camaraderie afterwards!

Julie, are you 100% now? Hope so.

I have an intense spin and a 7 mile run to report from the weekend. I'm thinking about doing yoga today and no cardio. I've trained 10 of the past 12 days, and on one of the remaining two days, I walked several hours so was still active. The 12th day, well, I was just a slug but so be it :D So a rest day would be just fine. Plus I was just skimming a magazine and found some cookies I think I'd like to whip up this evening.

Best to all,
Nat

Aggie, working a night shift (essentially what you did) takes quite a while to recover from as you discovered. Most people who work nights, however, don't go back to work 3 hours after they get home! No wonder it was a struggle to get yourself normalized again. Glad to hear the weekend run was a good one!

Kathy, how do you run home from work? Don't you have to carry a purse (or at least keys and wallet?)? And a change of clothes? Sounds like a great idea, but I am curious as to your system. Sometimes my family's activities make me tired, too. :D But I know the kids will be off on their own in a few more years, so I am enjoying these flurries of activity and just doing my best to keep up.

Susan, welcome back! Sounds like a great trip!!!!! I am glad you came back with the holidays in full swing, too. Otherwise I am sure it would have been somewhat of a letdown. Are you sure you were getting any work done while you were there? ;)

Robyn, why is your office being filmed for the news? Sounds like you have a nice variety of workouts planned for this week. Let us know if you are doing the 5K so we can cheer you on! :)

Natasha, If you are a slug for missing one day out of 12, I am afraid to ask what that makes me. You deserved your day off! What kind of cookies did you make....new recipe? DS is very serious about his music and wants to earn a dual degree in music performance and education (hoping to eventually teach at a university). What kind of music major was your sister (vocal/instrumental)? Does she work in her field now?

Today was very long and full, so nothing to report now, but my plan is to hit the CC in the AM as soon as the kids leave. I have to go to work later in the AM, so I am motivated to get out the door early. (In which case I need to wrap this post up!)

I said it on the other thread, but let me add here....

Happy Birthday Les!! :)

And good night to all!

Happy (belated) Birthday, Les!

Kathy - I worded the run on the way home from work awkwardly so I can see how it didn't make sense :). There is a neighborhood on my way home from work that has a path down the middle of the median and is along the river. So I change clothes before I leave work, drive to the running trail, run, and then continue home.

Susan - sounds like a great trip! Coming back from warm weather seems to make the cold seem colder. My parents jsut returned home (to Madison) after a week in AZ visiting my sister. My dad wished he would have stayed.

I've having these pains in my foot so decided to take yesterday off. It seems better today and it's supposed to be 60 this afternoon, so a run is on the list today.

Have a good day everyone!

Thank you all for the well wishes and congratulations! The race was superbly fun and I can't wait to do another! :)

Carrie - Weeeee! Go Gators!! Yeah! Will you be going to the National Championship in Miami?

Les - LW's birthday looks wonderful! And Happy Birthday to you!!

Kathy - Good luck to your DD tonight and to your DS! I was initially a music major in college so I know all about the auditions.

Eva - OMG that is a crazy late night last week! Glad to hear you got to relax and get in a good run over the weekend. No late nights this week, I hope!

ktg0930 - I hope your foot feels better soon! Do you think it's PF? I did a run in the neighborhood by my work too! It's a nice change of pace.

Susan - Your trip sounds wonderful! Can't wait to see pictures.

Robyn - So glad you are feeling fully better and can get back to working out. Have you decided on the jingle bell run this weekend?

Nat - Yes, DBF runs too, but not regularly. I think from the time I said I was doing the race until actual race day he ran 2 or 3 times....but he can still go out and run an 8 minute mile 5k! He really enjoys running and would like to do it more, but he works longer hours and it's dark by the time he gets home. We've been thinking about getting a treadmill though. Cookies?! Yum! What kind did you make?

Had a nice 3.2 mile run after work yesterday. I work downtown and like ktg0930, the hospital is surrounded by gorgeous historical neighborhoods, lakes, etc. So I ran to the lake and did two loops around. So pretty and a great change of pace from suburbia, where I live.

Hey all, it's good to pop out from my lurk.

Susan - I'll go in for the picture posting too. Love Israel and wish I could be going back with a few of my classmates in January (they will be there from Jan 5-27 in Jerusalem). Isn't the country grand and full of lots of neat things and FOOD.

A shout out to the rest of the gang and I wish I could post notes to all but thanks for the B'day wishes for LW and me. ALso, know all about the night shift issues out there and what kind of impact that has on running.

Howdy to Kathy, ktg, Meg, Robyn (Arthritis Foundation is one of my favorite charities too), Nat (what kind of cookies? a day off isn't a bad thing once in a while), and Eva.

Life has been busy since last Friday but I can't really complain (it's just preparation for life after school - Christmas and Easter are the two busiest times of the year). I had fun at shcool (and hope to post pictures of me in "the hat") yesterday. Every day is a day closer to the end of finals - next week (the 19th) is the last day of finals. I had a reasonably productive weekend for workouts all things considered with a spin on Saturday and a run today. It was "warm enough" (49 degrees and no wind) that I ran in short sleeves and shorts after dark. Plugged out an hour and felt pretty good.

Now I'm trying to get the last few tidbits for my paper - definitions for (1) humans being created in the image of God, (2) humans can be in a personal relationship with God, and (3) God wants to be in relationship with humans.

Time to get back at it but good to hear from everyone and I'll be in touch when I can.

Happy trails all,
Les

Kathy, did you get to the CC this morning? Will write more about my sister's music activities later this week :)

ktg, how's your foot feeling today?

Les, lovely to see you here. Another fluffy paper topic for you, I see ;) It sounds fascinating, but tough to write about! A run in short sleeves and shorts - even though I enjoy cold weather running, that sounds fabulous too. Good job! Thinking of shorts and T-shirts, DH and I are debating whether to do a beach vacation this year. Cuba or Mexico are sounding pretty good. We'll see.

Best to all and happy trails! Oh yes, almost forgot to report my 50 minute spin this evening. :)

Natasha your spins sound great!

Les good luck finishing up the semester!

Ktg Take care of the foot.

Meg Sounds like you're recovering will.

Well, I FINALLY got a run in! It really felt great! I had to walk a bit more than normal but I bumped up the speed a bit when I was running so it all pretty much evened out. I didn't have a swim in me after the run though but I'm still pretty happy. I haven't decided about the run on Sunday but I'm leaning toward yes.

Great pictures, Susan! I especially appreciate the one in the marketplace. No way would I have gotten out of there without some of that bread! I really enjoy visiting markets in other countries (or even other communities for that matter) to see all of the different and unusual things they have. I also just love the market atmosphere. I would venture to say you have plenty of options with your Christmas letter! :)

Yes, I did get to the CC yesterday for weights and 35 min on the TM with about 5 intervals. This AM I slept in until about 8:30 which felt great, and I have done 45 min of steady jog on the TM at home. Working tomorrow, so that is it for me until Friday.

Kathy, thanks for the explanation. Makes perfect sense.

The cookies I made were orange cookies. Very tasty and so easy. They have an orange icing, too, which reminded me a bit of orange cake icings I've loved in the past.

Susan, awesome photos, especially the one of the market! Wow. Thanks for sharing them.

Robyn, yay on getting in that run!

Kathy, sounds like you had a good balance of workouts and rest these past 2 days, putting you in good stead for your workday tomorrow.

Vicci, Happy 25th Anniversary!!! Isn't today the actual day?

I got in a run today as well, about 7 km worth. It felt lovely and I wished I'd had a bit more time but had to move on to something else. Ah well!

Hope everyone is doing splendidly!

Robyn, great job on a run and a spin!

Carrie, I sent you a PM with my Paris friend's name and e-mail.

Natasha, orange cookies sound lovely! I made some cookies the other night and have another batch I have to bake today.

My foot is feeling much better, thanks everyone for asking! I did my normal run on Tuesday, but took it a little slow and didn't have any problems. So I'm thinking maybe it was caused by wearing my old shoes too long. I have a new pair so I'm crossing my fingers that there are no more pains.

I'm currently waiting for the plumber to come to fix a few annoying things. It's pouring rain so I'm not sure if I'll get a run in today or not.

Have a good day everyone.

Finally checking in on the last day of our running week.

Susan. Wow. I'm tickled for you to have had such a great adventure. I cannot wait to go, someday. Thanks for the inspiration.

Meg- wonderful photo- you look so happy. I KNEW you'd love your race- that energy is so addicting, so rewarding!

Les- Happy Belated Birthday to LW! and Vicci, Happy 25th Anniversary

Eva You've had a really stressful week, but still getting in some great w/o. I hope this weekend promises some down time for you.

Kathy, you too have been pushing it hard, with long shifts at work and keeping up with your amazing kids! Life is a workout, so you shouldn't feel bad for a single second about missing time at the gym. Kudos for keeping up with yoga- that sounds like the best w/o possible for you at the moment, until things settle down a bit.

ktg- take care of that foot. I wouldn't wish PF on anyone :( Sounds like new running shoes were a good choice!

Carrie, Natasha- you've got some great runs in recently- although at the opposite ends of the weather spectrum! Speaking of which, Carrie- how goes the cold weather gear preparation and shopping?

Robyn YAY for your run- you are returning to full health! I hope you make it to Sunday's run!

Dire winter storm warnings are calling for bone-chilling winds, ice, snow by tomorrow evening. Keep in mind this is Seattle. 1/4 inch of snow and we fall apart

I'm getting read for a run in a bit and it's a balmy 45 on this calm, partly cloudy morning. I'm feeling sluggish- a colleague had a dinner party last night, I ate and drank too much (prosecco, Cremant de Jura, Barolo, Barbaresco, Vin Santo to accompany proscuitto, fresh mozzarella, pasta, roast beef, roasted vegetables, carrot salad and dark chocolate torte with chestnuts & vanilla ice cream ), went to bed 2 hrs past my bedtime and still woke at 5. Ugh. I work noon-9 today, so it will be a LOOONNG day. The fresh air will do me good. And thank goodness it's (my) Friday...

Last week, even though I missed only one day of work from the flu, just knocked it out of me. I used all extra energy to get to and get through work and had none for w/o. I realized as I hit the gym Monday morning that it was the first time since March I hadn't been training for something. A half-marathon in June, a 10K in September, the November Half that didn't happen.

So I decided I'd just start anew. I'm going to take the next month to focus on gentle runs, rebuild strength, endurance in gradual amounts, to return to running truly for the joy of it instead of the outcome. Since returning regularly to yoga a couple of weeks ago, I can already feel the mental and physical difference and what a relief and joy it's been.

Have a wonderful weekend, Runners.

Robyn1007

Julie, I know what you mean about not training for something. Although I am the races I'm training for don't start until June (maybe May if I decide to do the Bolder Boulder) it seems so far off that it's hard to think of my training focusing on that. It feels weird.

I do think I'm going to do the run on Sunday. It just seems like fun and I will get a long sleeve t-shirt out of it as well. :p

Ktg, glad the foot is feeling better. I know better than many how miserable foot pain can be.

Les - The party looks like fun! And you've had a chance to get some good workouts in - great.

Kathy B - I'm with KValley... Your life is a workout right now! Don't worry to much about not getting in additional exercise.

Aggie - 4:30am!!! I've never pulled an all-nighter (not even in college). I don't think I'd be very good at it.

Kathy - I'm training in Paris & running the Paris marathon :)

Susan - Wow! That looks like a fantastic trip. I am amazed at how much you got to see, too. It doesn't seem like you were gone very long.

Robyn - Yay! Sounds like you had a better week workout-wise. I hope you got over the yuck you were fighting!

Natasha - Wow 10 out of 12 days is quite a lot. A rest day certainly sounds like it was in order. Oooh - beach vacation. I would love to see either Mexico or Cuba.. haven't been to either.

Meg - I know! That game was sooo nerve wracking. DBF and I are going to try to make it down to Miami for the game.. Not sure if we'll find tickets though! Are you going down?

KValley - I have everything I'm getting before we go :) It is a bit difficult shopping for cold weather stuff while it is 75 degrees out but I did manage to get a long sleeved technical shirt and some super warm tights. I'll just have to get the rest while I'm there because I can't find much else. I do have a bike jacket that I'll take and probably use as my running jacket. Wow! That dinner party sounds fantastic. I can see how it would be easy to eat/drink too much! I hear you about always training. After my marathon I am going to coast for a while.. just doing some 10k's & 5k's for fun.

Carrie, when do you go again?

Well, I did strength and swim tonight. My arms are going to scream at me tomorrow I'm sure of it. Oh well, it's all good. I registered for Sunday's run today so now I'm going for sure. ;)
