Anyone ever tried lowfat eggnog? Opinions on flavor? Thanks.

By the time you add Brandy or your favorite booze, who can tell the difference? :)

That's funny! :D But I love the fat-filled, creamy, basic flavor of booze-free eggnog, & I have a nondrinking relative plus kids--so the basic flavor is what I'm after. :)
(Reminds me of the time Dad kept adding cream to his coffee & exclaiming over how excellent the coffee was, while at a Xmas party given by a friend--um, that's not just cream; it's Bailey's. :D Oops!)

I know I have bought the low fat in the past but my family is a booze-addin' bunch, so I really can't comment on the difference in taste. But if you love the full fat, i'd probably just go ahead and splurge, it's only once a year, right?

Oh yes, SO good! :) But then, I love pretty much anything egg nog. I will say the stuff we bought, there's HFCS in it, darnit, I didn't read the label before we bought, but it's still good. And yes, what Pammela said. ;)
Actually, we ended up buying low fat because they didn't have the Silk Soy Nog at the store we were at. That's good as well, just a thinner version of egg nog, to me at least.

I actually prefer the lowfat. But then I can't drink anything other than nonfat milk either. Actually, I usually buy Silk Nog if I buy it which I haven't as of yet this year. Although maybe I need to pick some up tomorrow in the mountains. Mmmmm, Christmas Eve nightcap...

I forgot to mention, that last year's Dec. CL had a great egg nog recipe. It does make a lot if you're making it for a crowd; I made it for my book group and there were no takers, so I was drinking it for a while.

Could you please direct me to the recipe? I searched for "eggnog," "egg nog," 2007 beverages, 2006 beverages, etc. and can't find it. Thanks so much! :)

I"m addicted to egg nog, and struggle with this question, too. All lowfat egg nog is, unfortunately, just straight HFCS. That kind of grosses me out. But, OTOH, it's really really hard for me to justify regular egg nog at 100% fat.
I've found a wide range of taste from brand to brand of lowfat egg nog. So, if there's one you don't like, keep trying. I tried the Silk Nog, but it's just sooooo watery.
I always have it with either bourbon or coffee (yum!), but the flavor still matters to me. DH laughs at how picky I am about egg nog flavor.

I was just about to cry "uncle!" because I haven't done a search for a recipe since they redid the website, and I find it nearly impossible to search for anything! Anyways, I eventually found it. Apparently eggnog is one word. And I lost two years off my life, because I swear this came from 2007, but apparently was 2005!
Hope this works, let me know if it doesn't!

My family actually prefers the silk nog. Even my anti-soy husband. I think we like the lack of greasy mouthfeel.

I prefer the full fat version and I thin it out with nonfat milk. I tried the lowfat version from Safeway and found it thick, in a weird, not natural way.

Thanks, everyone! :)
Chris415, did you increase the spices in the eggnog, as some of the online reviews suggested, or did you like it as is? Thanks so much for searching for the recipe--I don't know why it didn't come up when I searched for "eggnog" as well as "egg nog," but who knows. This will be a fun one to try, esp. to get away from the (tasty :o) HFCS in the store-bought versions. :p

Ok, relying on my memory again ;), but I remember pretty much following the recipe as written (sans brandy, as I know someone in book group doesn't drink), and not liking the cinnamon in it. I have NEVER heard of cinnamon in eggnog, and perhaps that is common, but I didn't like it and it's not what I'm used to. When my mom made homemade, she just used nutmeg too. If I make it again, I would just use nutmeg and vanilla and no cinnamon. :)
Best of luck, hope it turns out super!

If I could, I'd drink full-fat milk. Heck, if I could I'd probably drink half-and-half . But this year I bought light (but not lowfat) eggnog because the regular stuff is too thick/rich for me. I liked it a lot better, but again this not exactly what you're asking about. It has 50% less fat and 16% fewer calories than regular. No HFCS at all. Exact flavor of the regular, and still rich, just not quite as thick.
I've never spiked it, but I have brandy and light and dark rums on hand: which would you all choose? You aren't supposed to heat it if spiked, are you? (Or would you have to be spiked to even consider it ;))

Canice, I prefer brandy to spike eggnog, but I think you should have a glass with each and see which you like best!
