Can I just use the pre-cut stew meat, or should I buy the rump roast and cube it myself? I'd like to give this a try next week.

Whatever you want Mandy! I just find Stew Beef to be kinda pricey, and I found Rump Roast on sale for $1.79 per pound and bought (3) 3-pounders!! I actually used two roasts in that recipe on Saturday, and we only have about 2 cups left that DH is taking to work for lunch!
Whatever works for you...just try to make sure that the meat has some marbling, like Rump or Chuck. Really lean beef like sirloin or top round doesn't tenderize in the crockpot as well. Enjoy! :D
