Does anyone have this book or have you seen it? If so, do you have any thoughts to share about it? Does it look good?

I saw her this morning on today. We tried her program for awhile, but cutting out cheese was all but impossible. Other than that, if the program is like her other one, it is very healthy. Full of veggies and fruits, whole grains and natural instead of processed sugars. No processed foods, very little meat (mostly fish).
Plus, she talks about not using food as a punishment or reward as to not start those habits and how to get kids to move more!
Again, if it is anything like her Total Health Makeover, and I had kids, Id definately read it for great ideas (again, cant give up cheese, though!)

Kim, I saw her on the Today show, also, but got a phone call right before she got to the recipes. I may just order the book from Amazon ($17.50 before shipping) because I'm sure there is some good info and ideas in it. I can't go without dairy, either!
Thanks,
Chrisi

Chrisi,
I read her second book, cannot remember the name. But it was really interesting, especially her take on dairy. She makes a great point-- we are the only species that drinks another species' milk-- how and when did people start doing that? I have never been a big cheese fan (gasp!), and I don't really drink milk either, so I reconsidered my dairy intake after reading her book. She said her complexion cleared up, she lost all this weight, has amazing energy, it is real interesting.
Maybe your library carries her other books so you can check them out!

You might want to keep an eye on half.com too. I saw the segment on Today as well. It does look like an intriguing book.

This thread made me decide to pick her program back up (with my own variations). I am going to start using soy milk and butter, but I will still eat cheese! We were already pretty much chemical and processed food free and I have been food combining from the first attempt at this, but we added the organic produce and are going to try to cut out refined sugars and use the natural kind. The meat thing is no big deal, I dont care for much meat anyway but fish!
I really think it is the optimum health! I read her first 2 books again today. The first one goes into the nitty-gritty about what your food does to and for you and it is very interesting!

i'll have to look for the book the next time I'm out at B&N. I'm tempted to order in sight unseen, but I've done that too many times and then not been happy with the book
Thanks everyone!

Let me know if you get the book and what you think. Here is a link to an excerpt from the Today show http://www.msnbc.com/news/610173.asp
Also, thank you for reminding me how much I like her books. I need to remember I can follow most of her healthy tips and add cheese on my own (unlike last time when I only lasted a few weeks because of the cheese thing:))

Just curious - How do you all deal with her thoughts on not mixing proteins and carbs at the same meal?

Sara Emily...
I didn't know that she recommends that. I haven't read any of her books. But I don't agree with that belief at all. I've studied anatomy and physiology (went to school for a couple years for food and nutrition), and according to everything we were taught, our bodies are made to deal with different types of food at the same time.

I'm with you Chrisi, the food combining thing is pretty gimmicky from all that I have read and come to understand. As far as this particular book goes though, I have no opinion. I just wanted to add that I particularly like Dr. Andrew Weil's thoughts and recommendations on eating. They are based in solid research and are very common sense and include the idea that food should also be enjoyed for the emotional and social aspects, not just the physical nourishment aspect. I know that some people are wary/skeptical of his homeopathic beliefs/recommendations, but I am referring strictly to his nutritional recommendations. Check his book out, or even his website (www.askdrweil.com). Good solid stuff, if you ask me.

I just wanted to add that I was having some MAJOR digestion problems and when I tried food combining (not fanatically), it cleared up! Now when I do combine in one meal (with certain foods), my digestion is a problem again!
She is also trying to get people to enjoy their meals more...chew their food better etc. I also like her ideas on being aware of your own body and the feelings (physical) you have. Id like to learn to be more in tune with my body!
Reading her books also get me to completely give up processed foods, be more aware of chemicals, drink filtered water and try to buy organic. Its hard to break habits you've had for 29 years!

In the most basic sense, it says carbs and proteins are digested in different parts of the body in different ways so they shouldnt be eaten in the same meal. We eat a lot of fish, so during a fish dinner we eat fish and veggies and if we have pasta or bread, we dont eat fish with it. There is a lot more to it, but I just follow that basic premise to help aid in my digestive problems. Im sure it doesnt mean a lot of things to a lot of people but everyone is different. Im not using it to lose weight (altho the first week I tried it I lost 4 lbs), just to help my poor tummy!
