Well, the bad news is it's 4º. The good news is, it's warmer than they predicted earlier in the week and it's MUCH warmer than what some of you all are getting!
Anyway, what's everyone up to?
I'm headed to work. I get off at 1:00 on Fridays, so it truly is TGIF every week. I have to come straight home for the HVAC guys who hopefully won't blow me off this time.
We're headed to MIL's in DE this weekend. We're sneaking in a weekend trip before sports start up again.
I've been enjoying a VERY quiet January - only 2 nights a week with Tae Kwon Do - but by the end of this month, it will slowly ramp up again.........
The boys and I have Monday off, so we're looking forward to a three day weekend.
Gotta go get ready for work before I'm late!!!

Morning! Wow! I feel like we're having a heat wave compared to your 4 degrees. Time and Temperature says it's 17 in downtown Little Rock. My truck said 20 this morning at my house.
I will also be having a 3 day weekend and I am quite excited about it. Since the first of the year I've been working on decluttering so I know I'll work on that some. Tomorrow we're supposed to hit 50 so I'll do some stuff outside. Nothing too exciting.

Good morning! It's 13 degrees here in Georgia. No snow though.
I have a meeting with a potential new customer today. That would be nice to get. She has 2 young children with allergies and needs help with meals.
Saturday we are going to dinner with friends for a surprise birthday party. Apparently she knows something is up, her husband said they had to take into consideration the dogs, but not that we'll be meeting them at the restaurant. It's her 40th.
Sunday looks quiet although I haven't looked at the kitchen calendar and Monday my husband is off so we might do something fun. Maybe outdoors if it's not 20 degrees, he's not good with cold weather.
Have a good trip and great long weekend.

It's 12 degrees here in Atlanta. I was surprised they didn't close schools since the wind chill was below 0. I'm sure there won't be any outside recess though. We have a predicted high of 32.
Today is a school day for both boys so after dropping DS2 at school I'm going to get a treatment for my back. I threw it out on Sunday night and I'm miserable. I really need to run some errands, but it depends on the back spasms.
This weekend should be quiet. The boys are off on Monday, but DH is not. I think we might have a little snowman themed day. Make some cookies or cupcakes and do some snowman decorations.

It's about 22 here, which is ridiculous for the deep south.
Right now the outside thermometer is saying -4 degrees. The dogs sure didn't take long to do their business this morning!!
Okay, I wondered why you'd be off on Monday, Alysha, and then looked at the calendar and realized it's MLK Day. I know our schools are off, too, but I was thinking that next week is the week of the 12th, so I'm all mixed up. Anyway....I say boo for a 3 day weekend. I like Mondays when I can get quiet time once the kids are in school. :)
Not much planned this weekend except watching the Steelers game on Sunday evening.
Hope everyone stays warm and has a great weekend!

Reporting in from southern NH: it's -10 here this morning, and thankfully not very windy. Coldest day of the winter yet. I will definitely be using my car's heated seat today!
Today's agenda is work, then dinner and mah jong with friends. No outdoor activities planned other than running to and from the car.

-8 here in northern Indiana. The horses have frost in their eyelashes this morning. They seem fine, but I worry anyway.
School was canceled this morning, so the kids are home. I had planned to work on a catalog index for a client, but that's not really a project that goes well with noise and confusion!
We ordered a new table and it's coming today. I'm excited to get it, but feel like we shouldn't have spent the money for it. Too late now...better just enjoy it!

Veritable heat wave here in Omaha at 11 degrees, yesterday we went to work at -15 degrees  and it was beyond cold. It sounds as if the whole US is cold today (or at least cold temps for where they are...personally I would love to have Jassamatazz's 22 degrees!;))
Today I took the day off for my birthday...I am getting a haircut and going to change the look (wish me luck!!). Then I am meeting a friend and we will shop and go to lunch (love food and shopping :D) and then we will do my annual one thing I have never done before (to celebrate being one year older) and that is a facial. I am excited. After that we may stop for a glass of wine. Tonight I have a work party that DH and I are going to. It will be a fun day, different than my usual work Fridays. DH is heading out in the morning for a long weekend in Illinois visiting his family. And I get to babysit my darling granddaughter overnight tomorrow night. It is going to be a great weekend!! :D.
Stay warm everyone and have a nice Friday, entryway to your weekend!!

It was 4 when I got up this morning... now it's up to a whopping 6!!! The weatherman said it's supposed to be around 25 by Sunday & referred to it as a "heat wave"!!!
Nothing much going on today... waiting for the TV repairman who is supposedly going to be here between 10 & 11. In the meantime, I'm doing some laundry & hanging out. No chance of running any errands until he's gone.
No specific plans for the weekend yet. I expect DS2 will roll in for the weekend sometime tonight.
Everybody try to stay warm!!
GO STEELERS!!! :D

-10 here too... gotta love windchills in the -30 to -40 range :)
Spotted Pony- I keep worrying about my parents' horse too. He is pretty old and I am just not sure he will make it through this winter :(
Alysha- Enjoy your weekend in DE!
SueK- Go Steelers!! (Since the Giants were eliminated, I am pulling for Pittspuke now ;))
EmptyNestMom- Happy Birthday!!
My weekend is long too - woohoo! I love any holiday that closes banks. I need to clean since my roommate should be coming home from resting at her parents' house post-surgery/hospital stay. I also need to clean because I learned I have some very very severe allergies this week. I have to go buy encasements for my bedding, and I really should dismantle my whole bedroom and dust from top to bottom. Ugh. I have actually looked into getting a one time deep clean from a maid service - I am just not sure I can do this.
I am headed to see a band play tonight- I need to find cute shoes that I can wear wooly socks with ;)
-19 here in NW Indiana with a -40 windchill. School was canceled again. We've had 4 weather related days off beginning with Hurricane Ike back in August. We only have one snow day built into the calendar. It's going to be a long June.
Tomorrow the kids are coming for dinner. I'm making a fresh ham, stuffed cabbages, sausage, sauerkraut, potatoes, a veggie, and a dessert of some kind. Good comfort food for me.
Nothing else is planned for the weekend. Stay warm everyone.

We recieved an e-mail telling us that due to the cold weather we can wear sweatshirts on casual day.
It's in the 70's :D My parents live in Iowa and my dad sent me pictures of snow and weather updates. They're coming to visit next week so I have to get ready for that.
We had a team meeting at work. I work with a LOT of very negative people so I tend not to be social.
Anyway the meeting turned into a huge b*tch session. I was quiet because I like having a job with a company that is still making a profit, has affordable benefits, matches my 401k and is hiring rather than firing. I also have great managers who are pretty much hands off. Show up on time. Do your job and do it well and you'll rarely see them.
I think my coworkers need to go on message boards and see what people in other industries are dealing with.
OK moving on-Working today, cleaning the house tonight and watching some Netflix. Tommorow were going to check out the Baarrett Jackson (http://www.barrett-jackson.com/) car show. We're also going to see Grand Torino.

Wow you guys are really cold...'cept Kristi.;) We were at 30 this morning so we missed the big chill.
Tonight we have a Go-Texan Shrimp Boil. It's part of the Junior Livestock and Rodeo Assoc that raises scholarship money. All money raised tonight will go to kids in this county. Free beer starts at 6!
DS#2 turns 25 :eek: (how'd he get so old?) on Sunday. Not sure if he's having a birthday dinner at home or if we're going out. He's out of town on Saturday for a rodeo so it will depend on when he gets home.
Monday we are outta here! We're going on a cruise to the Panama Canal. I'm very excited about this trip as I've always wanted to see the canal. We also stop in other places we've never been.

This means an extra long weekend for the kids, and they are excited! I didn't get my call until 5:45, and I guess a whole flood of school closings came in after 5 this a.m., which makes me think it got colder than they thought it would. Only a few schools canceled last night.
I'm glad to be home - and glad the kids don't have to be cooped up for another day at school without benefit of an outdoor recess to get the wiggles out. It's been a bit rough in that regard!
I am baking this morning - although I think there must be a problem with the recipe, so I'm off to check the threads on the KA Whole Grain Baking cookbook.
Anyone tried the cornmeal maple biscuits? Good taste but way too crumbly. I should have gone with my instincts and added more milk, instead of following the recipe exactly. Oh, well.
Enjoy Friday, everyone!:)

There is a legitimate heat wave in Southern California right now. I think it is supposed to be 80 degrees today. Even warmer yesterday....

If Josie says it was -10 at her place early it was probably -5 here--and then add some for the fact that I just got up thankyouverymuch DD#2 who kept us up in the middle of the night. Anyhoo, I am loving this--not only is my sea of mud nice and solid but it is blindingly sunny. I will run the dogs today as I did yesterday--I'd rather be out when it is like this than overcast. Although even my really smart retriever lost the ball between his legs a few times--between being blinded by the sun and not smelling much from the cold we did eventually lose the ball (although it was my youngest, goofy retriever who lost it). My biggest issue with the weather is that I don't want DD#2 out in it--she has such sensitive skin and is awfully young (2) so they aren't too happy when I go out.
I might have to test the cheesecake I made yesterday just to find out what we can do with our afternoon if no baking or cooking is in store. ;) On the other hand, if it is bad, we'll bake. :)
ETA it is -2. Talk about having not warmed up much!

10 degrees this morning when I got up. Yuck! I hate the cold!
Not much on the lineup this weekend. Tonight pizza and movies, tomorrow I need to get out of the house so we'll see if we can find something to do. And Sunday is the playoffs, Eagles and Pittsburgh, I'm so hoping for an Eagles Pittsburgh Super Bowl!:D
We don't get off for MLK day (which really? I guess it's becuase we're a private school? But when more than half the population is african american....odd?)
Hope everyone stays warm, except you lucky Californians!:D

While normally I'd happily take all the cold from you guys this time I'm actually really excited that it's warmer here. We have our first race tomorrow for the kiddos and I'm so grateful that it isn't supposed to be frigid. Normally our January race is absolutely brutal and it makes for many additional challenges for both the kids and their coaches (aka me). On mountain highs tomorrow are supposed to be 18 at the top and 29 at the base which is positively balmy around here.

PA certainly is dominating sports lately huh? :)
Wow, I can't believe how cold it is everywhere! I hate being cooped up like this. I get my exercise on the step or at the gym and Bailey gets his by chasing the laser pointer and/or playing football keep away with the boys. :D
The HVAC guys didn't show up again (but did call and are offering $20 off because of inconvenience) - with these temps, I'm not surprised. Maybe I'll just reschedule for spring........
Now I'm going to try not to give in to an urge to lie down and close my eyes and instead do some laundry, some exercise and some cleaning. Yawwnnnnn........

Where I am I actually think it is fantastic out there--for adults. There is no wind and it is SO sunny. It actually feels much better than it did 2 days ago when it was 20 degrees warmer but the wind was howling with no sun. I've enjoyed running the dogs both today and yesterday--but I still don't really want the kids, esp not the younger one, out in it.

The sun is nice, but it's gotten very windy here since this morning. And up on a hill with very few trees - it's brutal!
I walked the other day - it was sunny and in the 20s and it was quite nice.
I do love that there's very little foot mess associated with frozen ground - no paw wiping and no mud! Just the occasional ice ball that we need to pick out of Bailey's pads....... ;)

What Laura said... I really didn't mean offense :) Just more a joking sports thing. I love Pittsburgh - it had the closest IKEA for tha long time ;) and awesome food!

It's cooled off from earlier in the week, but still sunny and clear, close to 70F. Are you serious, Kristi, that that's sweatshirt weather in AZ? The last couple of days everyone's been in t-shirts and flip-flops and little strappy dresses. It's amazing what a nice day can do to people's spirits!
Happy birthday, Pam! I misread your post at first and thought you were going out for your annual glass of wine :o.
Have a blast, sneezles - the Panama Canal sounds exciting!
No big plans here: farmers' market in the morning and a little trip out the coast on Sunday. I was going to go to a book signing by one of my cooking teachers (Tori Ritchie, if any of you watch her on the morning show) but I just found out it's *next* Saturday. Glad I didn't go for nothing .

Afternoon everyone. It's "warmed" up to -1 up from -17 this morning. We don't get casual Fridays here, so today is fuzzy sweater and slacks day as DH and I are going to a Macbeth at Chicago Shakespeare Theater this evening. Even slipped legwarmers on under my pants. DH leaves for OKC tomorrow morning, so I have a weekend of just me-time (which is very, very rare).
Just 2 hours and 15 minutes until my workday is complete!

It was 19 this morning, and the dogs were loving it! Just go out and chase everything they could find! No swimming, though... A beautiful bright, sunny day! And it's warmed up to 36! Feels like a heat wave...
I had a lovely day, so far -- went out to lunch at a new place, Catherine's Market, with my friends from Angel Dolls at church. Catherine's Market is like a mini Fresh Market, with lots of great-looking meat and produce. They have a restaurant there which serves their home-made bread and salads. I had a seafood salad with shrimp and REAL CRAB, and it was excellent! I also had blue-cheese potato salad and fresh fruit. All excellent. We laughed and chatted, and had a great time. In the store, I bought leeks (Kroger was out), Greek yogurt, Italian tuna, and gnocci. Cooking will be fun this weekend!:D
DD has to work tomorrow, and I'll probably finish laundry, alter some clothes and iron... guess the fun is over!;)
