I couldn't believe the answer when I saw this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmNRykRo61g) from Start Healthy, Stay Healthy. What veggie do your kids like best?

I know it's potato in the form of french fries; I've seen that statistic for a while so I've really pushed non-fry choices. When we've had fast food, I choose the fruit option with the milk drink, and if someone has fries, I give him 3-4. If nobody chooses fries, he doesn't care.
That being said, it's a toss-up currently with my 3yo between cucumbers and cherry tomatoes, both of which make him jump up and down with excitement. He's also a massive fan of corn and green peas as well.
My 9mo went absolutely gaga over zucchini; he's very fond of peas too.
Green peas! and corn on the cob when it's in season. He'll eat the kernels but is not nearly as big a fan.
Oddly, my son won't eat potatoes in any form - fry, baked, mashed, roasted. Just not interested.

Mine either! It kills me, because I love potatoes and they were a regular side dish before he ruined everything! ;)
He loves most other foods, greens in particular, so I probably shouldn't complain.
I don't consider potatoes to be junk food. Yeah, you shouldn't have fries as a side to every meal, but potatoes do have vitamins and can be part of a healthy diet.

ahhh...ketchup was once the weeone's fave, but these days I think it's a tie between corn and green beans - thank heavens!

This is a great idea - there is nothing wrong with potatoes just have to make sure they are eating them prepared in a healthy way. Start Healthy Stay Healthy has great nutritional food options for children if you are looking for ideas.
My guess would have been carrots. I don't think of fries as being vegetables at all. :(

As a parent that has (and does) battled eating disorders thanks to foods being "banned" in my childhood, in my house, NO food is off limits. However, I do try to teach the weeone about good nutrition, the fuel your body needs, and how much is too much of ANY food.

I don't understand how potatoes can be considered junk food either. The nutritional value of potatoes makes it one of the healthiest foods on your plate. If you deep fry them, then they become loaded with fat but baked in the oven which is how I make mine, t's still a healthy food. I rub 1 Tbsp. oil on the steak cut fries along with 2 Tbsp. Tabasco. Pop in the oven for 20 min. on 400 and you've got a great batch of "fries."
French Fries in oil, potato chips, mashed potatoes with gobs of butter, sour cream and heavy cream becomes VERY unhealthy, but you can make anything unhealthy if you pile on the goodies.

I guessed carrots too so I was pretty surprised when I saw the answer in the video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmNRykRo61g). I think French fries would be ok if they are a once an awhile treat but definitly not an everyday staple in a toddlers diet.

I agree with you all that Potatoes are not junk food but anything which is fried is like junk food only coz it lost its nutritional value.
