Alright, alright, I guess that'll do for now... ;)

Val, glad you still lurk - I haven't seen you in a while. :) Well, I was hoping for a rhyme and reason for when the little ones choose to come but apparently there isn't one.

tperes - I saw your post time and cringed. I seem to get that way before an appt but can normally force myself to "toss and turn" sleep at least until 5. I wish I could say it will get better. I can totally relate to the full feeling with eating too. But I'm forcing myself through it for the sake of the baby. :D

I hope everyone else is well! I must go hop in the shower and shave my legs for my appt. (i'm sure it will be appreciated)....just in case the doctor decides we'll do something today. :p

Still here... was kinda hoping I wouldn't be around for the February thread, but oh well!

Tperes, I woke up at 2:30 last night and was up til about 6:00 AM- I should have logged on. We'd have had the BB all to ourselves. :) I haven't had any swelling this time but I do remember some lopsidedness with DS1. And this time around I have some occasional calf pain if I stand up too long- but only in my right calf.

Hoping for an update from Cangoss- hope she's doing well.

The next 2 months will be busy on this thread. Looking forward to all the arrivals. AAAhhhh, just got spitup on again :)

Just checking in ...

I'm 33 weeks this week, and feeling large and sore. I've got an appointment at the chiropractor this afternoon for my SI joint. It is seriously the worst it's ever been in a pregnancy, and I just can't do this for seven more weeks. The part that scares me is going into labor when my back already hurts that much. That just can't happen ...

Other than that, I'm OK. I've got the bed ready, clothes washed, diapers bought. Just a few more odds and ends for baby, but a lot of crap to deal with at work. I had dreams last night about work and the things I need to do before baby comes.

I had maternity pictures taken a couple of weeks ago, and I anxiously awaiting the proofs. This was a serious splurge for me, but I figured it might be the last time I'm pregnant and I don't want to regret not doing it. I took the two kids and made it more of a family shoot.

That's about it from here. I"m reading along and lurking.

thanks -- I like seeing you back on the boards, too!

I am actually in my last "two week wait" ever right now. DH and I decided to try for one last baby (only got my cycle back 2 months ago after nelson who is now 13 months). but if it doesn't work this cycle, we are done -- I turn 39 next week and we don't want to assume the risk of continuing to try.

so anyway, I will know in about a week whether or not I'll be joining in. I am thinking it is about a 50-50 chance, at best, considering my age.

if not, I am going to be really bummed out, but just telling myself it wasn't meant to be!

good wishes to those who are "suffering" now. I feel lucky to have had some easy pregnancies.

I can't help but lurk:-)

Good luck Nancy and Stephanie! My baby turns one tomorrow and I think I'm going to have a serious meltdown:-( I can't believe that she's gotten big so fast. Who knows, maybe she'll share a birthday with one of your new babies:-)

In terms of second babies following a pattern, Elliott was a week late, Mia was sort of induced a day after my due date, I say sort of because I was having contractions on my own when I got to the hospital...Anyway, compared to having Elliott, the labor was a cakewalk. 6 hours from start to finish...and the epidural was timed so perfectly that I really wasn't uncomfortable at any point during labor. Soo..I'm sending good labor vibes your way:-)

I don't know if I have a third baby in me or not, sometimes I don't think I can handle the two I have but I suppose you never know:-)

I'll officially join today, I just had another quick ultrasound and saw the heartbeat and the baby flipping all over the place!
Due date is August 14, 2009.

Now for the question...
I had an internal and pap smear this morning at my appointment and now I'm bleeding. I don't think it's anything major but still, should I be worried??

gertdog
02-03-2009, 12:16 PM
Yay Linsley- nice to see you here! I think some spotting after a pap is usually normal. But my rule of thumb while pregnant is always call and ask if you have questions. So much going on with your body- why spend time wondering/worrying? :)

Val, thinking good thoughts for you!

JenZen- sorry about the back pain- that must be pretty miserable.

Welcome Linsley. I had some bleeding after my Pap as well. They told me beforehand (even gave me a panty liner) and said it should get darker as the day goes on. A result of irritation.

Hi everyone-

Candace (cangoss) asked me to write an update. She is back in the hospital. She is staying positive, but it is a tough time.
Any positive thoughts are appreciated.

Incognitofornow- Candace and I have been speculating about who you are (not too much to talk about on bedrest)- if you want to PM me, it would be fun to know who you are. No pressure, but she is one bored girl! We each have our person that we think it is...

Thank you for updating us Meredith - I've been thinking of her and the baby; I'm sure you're giving her all your tricks for staying sane on bedrest - please pass along my prayers for her and the baby. She certainly has had a rough time to even get this far - doesn't seem fair.

Yesterday we had the magic ultrasound - my edd is still 6/13/09, and we found out that we're having another boy!! I was excited - my husband knew before the tech asked if we wanted to know and kept murmuring, wow he's really moving, so it wasn't a surprise when we got to the legs and saw his boy parts where they are supposed to be.

My mother had a hilarious reaction - she went,"Oh no it's supposed to be a girl!! Are you sure?" I told her that we saw everything that makes him a boy, so there's no doubt. Obviously she wanted this one to be a girl more than I did. :)

I'm pretty excited - now we get to the harder part, the name. We're totally out of ideas for boy names, but we'll figure something out!

Couperine,
Congratulations!!!! Welcome to the world of three boys! I hope you will love it as much as I.
The hardest part I found is having to deal with people's insane comments. Were you trying for a girl? You need to have a girl. Will you try for a girl? ACK!

mst - thanks for the update on Candace. Good healthy thoughts and prayers going her way. Please keep us updated.

val - you're only giving it one cycle?! Not even 2 or 3? sending good thoughts your way too!

Stephanie - thinking of you...

Congrats Nancy! I think 3 boys sounds like lots of fun (and craziness)! Were you surprised or did you already have an idea?

Had my appt yesterday and the news keeps getting better! I grew ANOTHER 2 cm and have almost caught up to where I'm supposed to be! I thought I'd overdone it with Nick's party b/c I essentially didn't "rest" for 2 days and even though the scale isn't budging - she apparently is getting what she needs. It's amazing how much stress was actually affecting my body. I just can't imagine laying around here for another 2 weeks without baby here. We'll do another sono next Tuesday to officially measure her growth if I'm still hanging in there. Yay!

Woot Nancy you are doing great!! Sounds like the doctors are happy too because it's perfectly safe to deliver your baby already, so they must be satisfied with your bedrest.

As for my current bun in the oven, DH's family history is insanely overpopulated with men; there's been one girl for 4 generations. Apparently DH only aims Y's. :) I hoped the most for a girl with my first, but after that, I couldn't imagine a girl fitting into the mix. I'm just glad to see that Ethan and David already have such different personalities - can't wait to see what baby XY is like! (DH knew it was a boy when they looked at the umbilicial cord - he's a pediatrician, and they have a pretty significant OB/GYN rotation in residency.)

val, I hope your 2ww gives you the result you want; DH brought up getting a vasectomy after the baby is born, and I still can't go to the "I'm finished" point yet.

I never did call the doctor, the bleeding subsided and I took it easy last night, drank lots of water and didn't exercise this morning. Tomorrow I get another ultrasound for perinatal testing so that will put my mind at rest. I really think he just irrated my lady bits.:D

Good luck Val!

Linsley - glad your bleeding stopped, I have heard that that is extremely normal since your cervix is so sensitive but it's still got to make you nervous!

I can't believe that I am 2nd on the list! How did I get here so fast??

Feeling pretty good and I mostly have things wrapped up at work. I try to leave each day with the thought that I may not be back tomorrow and that has really helped me stay focused.

I'm not having bad insomnia issues but I my sleep is definitely not as good as it has been the last few months and I feel pretty wiped by the end of the work day. Guess I probably ought to get used to it, eh?

I have two minutes so I thought that I'd pop in. I haven't posted at all since my last baby was born a whole year ago. NOT an easy baby, but she's really come around the last few months. Anyway, I'm due again on August 17th. We are excited and a little nervous about how the youngest will react. Luckily, my 7yo is the best big sister ever so she should be a big help.

I have an appt. tomorrow for my 32 week check-up. Could barely get my right foot into my Dansko mary janes (which are in no way narrow -- they tend to be on the big side for me). I came home early this afternoon and elevated them for 2+hours. Still swollen, but better. My SIL says it just gets worse. Wishing for warmer weather so I could just wear sandals and flip flops.

Congrats and welcome to the newcomers! I am glad I am still in the middle of the list for now! :)

Hi everyone.
Thanks for all of the good thoughts. Meredith told me about the pm's she got, and my husband printed out the thread and brought it to me in the hospital so I got to read everyone's updates. He started reading some of the posts and asked "does anyone ever say this is T.M.I.?????" I assured him that we all like as many details as possible about what is going on with each other:D

Congratulations Stephanie and welcome baby Aiden!

as for my update... I was released from the hospital this morning. We'll see how long it lasts this time around. Things are still very much touch and go but it didn't seem like any doctors thought I would still be pregnant today, so this kid seems to defy the odds. I'm on full bedrest and will remain that way for the rest of the pregnancy. I may have to go inpatient at Yale if/when I hit 24 weeks but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. The local hospital isn't equipped to handle babies less than 28 weeks. I'm currently 21 weeks 4 days. We spoke to a neonatologist this morning and that was pretty scary.

Cangoss -- glad you are going home and I hope you get to stay there for the rest of your pregnancy (of course I mean that in the best way).

Jalapeno -- congratulations!

I had to have an ultrasound to check for a clot in my right leg yesterday since the swelling in that foot was so noticeably different. My usual 20 min. check-up turned into a 2 1/2 hour ordeal. Fortunately all is within normal range. Dr. told me to elevate and drink lots of water. So, that is what I have been doing. Needless to say, I came home and packed a "just in case" bag to keep in the car. All I had on me yesterday was my wallet and cell phone, and I kept thinking if I had to go to the hospital I was ill-equipped.

I think I have been having some Braxton-Hicks, too. Pains low in the stomach area -- feels like a cross between a stomachache and menstrual cramps, but not overly severe. They go away with movement, or drinking water, or distraction. This has all lit a fire under me to get stuff done. Just about 8 weeks to go!

Hi all! Just a quick note- I think I have a baby to feed in a few minutes. Thanks for the congratulations and welcome for Aiden! It was a fairly easy birth. Began having random contractions on Wednesday afternoon but assumed they were BH or false labor since they were a little uncomfortable but not painful. Woke at about 2:15 on Thursday morning with real contractions and realized it was the real thing but thought I had time to labor at home since the timing was still pretty random. By 6:30 AM all of a sudden the contractions started coming about 3 minutes apart and very strong- uh oh. Woke Ryan, dressed him, and sent him off to school. Then went to the hospital. I was admitted, in a room and examined by about 9:00 AM, and had an epidural by 10:00. Went from 3 cm to 10 cm in about an hour, but baby was sitting slightly diagonal and so not descending into the birth canal. They had me turn on my side for a while, which did the trick and straightened him out. Dialed back the epidural so that I could feel the contractions and know when to push, and about 10 pushes later there he was! So much easier than L&D with DS1. Only truly bad parts were the strength of the contractions in the hour or so before the epidural, and getting the epidural itself- I was sitting through a strong contraction and trying to stay perfectly still, the doctor was inserting the epi needle, the automatic blood pressure cuff started inflating and suddenly my water broke with a rather painful pop. I burst into tears but once the epi was in and I could move again, I felt better.

So- Aiden is healthy and sweet and nursing is going reasonably well. And he is now awake and in need of another nursing session- I'm going to take him upstairs and try out the side-lying position. :) Pix and more later when I get a chance!

Candace- sending you lots of good thoughts and hugs. I'm so sorry for what you're going through.

welcome Jalapeno!

Stephanie - glad to hear that things are going well so far. How is Ryan adjusting to life as a big brother?

tperes - glad to hear that your scare was just a scare. Hopefully things will be smooth from here on out. I don't think I'll be going for any more peri appts without a hospital bag in the car after being admitted with nothing two visits in a row.

Thank you for all of the continued support. I'm still hanging out here in my "nest". I have this boppy pregnancy pillow, and I have that plus a bed pillow on the couch and then I cover up with a duvet. DH said that I look like I'm in a nest. DMIL asked me what kind of bird I want to be in the nest. I told her I want to be Big Bird - I just barely have a bump right now and I want it to get nice and big.

I do have a bit of happy news. I figured out a new trick. If I eat a bunch of chocolate, I can feel the little guy kick. He has an anterior placenta so I have been late to feel anything. My sister visited over the weekend and brought me a big bag of chocolate and two days in a row I've eaten 4-5 pieces and then felt him:D I had only felt him once before, while I was in the hospital.

Is anyone else there? Sarah, are you around...

Still here! I can definitely tell that he continues to move down, more pressure and uncomfortable-ness "down there" :D

Our mothers are being far more impatient about this whole process than we expected, luckily most of the contact has been limited to email at this point but I'm just waiting for all the calls to start if we do pass our due date

Hope everyone else is feeling good!

Hi everyone! I haven't been around much, life is definitely keeping me busy these days! Congratulations to Stephanie on the arrival of Aiden! Glad to hear you had a fairly easy birth, enjoy getting to know your new little man! Welcome to Jalepeno, too! Candace, prayers are coming your way. Try to rest and relax the best you can!

I'm feeling huge at 36.5 weeks. The twice weekly monitoring appointments that I've had to go to because of the hypertension have started to wear on me, as it makes for a long day after work and then driving downtown to the doctor's office. I'll do anything to keep the little one safe, though, so I try not to complain. Between the doctor's appts, things at school like conferences and Open House, and visiting potential daycare possibilities, I feel like its been quite hectic! Here's hoping that this weekend DH and I can relax a little bit.

I'll have to pop back again later and catch up on how everyone's doing a little more thoroughly. Hope everyone is feeling well! Take care!

De-lurking here...Candace, I am praying for you and your little boy. This was a bit of a different situation, but DSs 1 & 2 (twins born at 34 weeks) spent 2 weeks in the NICU; a couple of days after they were born I spoke with my OB, and he told me that neonatologists, while great at their jobs, also tend to give the worst case scenario to already nervous parents. So, yes, listen to them, but also remember that they have to cover their arses. I'm believing the best for your baby!

Also, I wanted to join this thread. I took a pregnancy test this morning, and it was positive! We are thrilled! Ya'all are the first to know - for various reasons, we're waiting a couple of weeks to tell family, and since none of you know my family...(I hope!)

Hello ladies! I'm here, just 39 and waiting! :D Had my appt on Tuesday and I'm happy to say little girl is weighing in at 6 lbs, 3 oz! We're just so happy with her progress, life is good. My fluid is looking low though so I go in for a recheck tomorrow. If it's still low, they're going to induce tomorrow night. I'm not dialated at all but I'm soft and effaced 50-70%. So we'd start the cervidil and hope I don't need any pitocin (I'm actually praying I won't get it!) If all looks well, we'll go until next week. Sigh. The waiting game has begun. I've pretty much taken myself off bedrest. I actually went into work most of yesterday and today I have odds and ends to organize around the house. Maybe even do some last minute photo uploading. Nancy, you were right about the productivity on bedrest! I haven't been nearly as diligent as I would have liked but oh well. DH says it's just preparing me to relax when baby comes. Ok, I like that excuse. ;)

Congrats sugarbaby! How old are the little ones now? You must be so excited!

Back to getting sticker shock from looking at double-strollers...

What are you looking at for double strollers? I am trying to figure out what to get. I have a friend that has a BOB and I like it, but I don't think that it would work for an infant. I already have a travel system from Madeleine, which I really like, but it is only for one.

Graco makes a double that can hold an infant seat but the weight limit is 40 lbs (per child) and Madeleine is already 33.

I suppose I could get the BOB and just hope that until #2 sits up I don't have the need to have the 2 of them in strollers at the same time, especially since I am the only one that can push a stroller (e.g., so using 2 strollers is out).

I'm currently interested in the Bob and Phil and Ted's; the BOB does have an attachment ($85 extra of course) to allow use of an infant seat - our Graco model was have might work in it. We're facing that dreaded upgrade issue too - the infant seat we have was Ethan's from 2005, so it's not necessarily compatible based on what I read. Phil and Ted's Sport model looks interesting since it can carry a baby for a while, but I am not sure of the stacking kids on top of each other thing. People do have some concerns with the width of side-by-side models (DH being one of them), but I imagine the doors you use regularly are already modified for your husband. The BOB one is supposed to go through a 32inch door - our house has 36 inch throughout. The BOB has a higher overall weight limit of 100 lbs and the Phil and Ted's has a 75? ish one with 35 for the under seat.

Also I think Ethan's carseats (he's weight and height-wise ready for a booster but not age) won't work for the new baby - they are showing a bit of wear and tear, and the Britax models we bought for David are put together with improvements. So I'm checking out boosters too.

I think I just need to find some baby store that has models of all of the higher-end brands to test-drive. I'd really rather a stroller that can immediately be used for a newborn, but who am I kidding? I can barely remember the first 6 weeks after David was born - I doubt I even thought of exercising.

We have the Phil and Ted's and love it. I have an older model, and it is more work to set it up than my regular stroller. Ilyssa mostly refuses to do any stroller. We have a Sit and Stand too, but that thing is a monster- it is huge.

Nancy- do you use your stroller in your house? I don't think ours have ever been in our house- lives in our car (or in the garage).

Don't forget about Craigslist- that's a great Craigslist item because when you are done with two kids in a stroller, you want to downgrade to a single.

Candace -- add me to the list of those praying for you and your family. I hope all these positive thoughts heading your way mean that you're on the pregnancy thread for a couple months to come!!!

And welcome to the new babies and congrats to the new mommas and mommas-to-be! been a couple weeks since I've read the thread so sorry I've not got more personal messages :o and of course, I've written a novel below

I'm still doing well -- hard to believe that it's just about a month until our little guy will be here. I was hoping to have the nursery completely done by this weekend and we may actually make it (esp. if I get myself off the computer here!). We had our two showers the last two weekends of January. Both were lots of fun, although at the second I was in the throes of a bad cold/flu/crud, which had me in its grip for almost 2 weeks. I'm finally through that (and learned almost a week too late that the *good* Sudafed is now only available from the pharmacist, not OTC. What a relief that was!). Afterward, my mom helped me review what all we had, get it organized and then get more essentials with the gift cards we'd received.

One (sorta) funny thing I learned is that when on the hospital tour don't mention to your DH that you have a killer headache -- they will overhear this and want you to go to the ER to ensure you haven't suddenly developed pre-eclampsia. As we had two friends recently develop this, I knew all the symptoms to watch for and was able to assure them that in fact it was a sinus headache from the horrible cold (congestion backing this up) and that I had no other symptoms, which I could rattle off. I did promise to go to my dr's office (across the street from the hospital) if the Tylenol didn't clear it up (it did) so in the end no further excitement than about 15 minutes of the hospital staff being especially solicitous. And certainly it's better to be safe than sorry but I sure felt silly! Other than the cold though I've loved being pregnant and am grateful that the physical therapy exercises I started in month 4 seem to have prevented a lot of the discomfort I anticipated with my joints. My lone complaint so far is that I can't be on my feet more than a couple hours or they start to feel as if the soles are bruised. Not much swelling as my shoes all still fit, but only a couple pairs are comfortable due to my desire for extra "cush". But I already threw style out the window with my maternity wardrobe so practical shoes are just the final touch :D

in re: to the stroller options being discussed, we obviously haven't used it yet, but we went with the BOB Revolution plus carseat adapter. We're in a rural area and it looks like it will be well-suited to our gravel driveway (1.5 mi. roundtrip to the mailbox, which will likely be a daily walk for us at some point) and will also allow my DH to go jogging with him later. I think the adapter kit was about $55 at our local registry. We debated getting that kit or the carseat frame stroller and felt like the durability/usability of BOB won out. We drive trucks so the compactness wasn't an issue. I second (third?) the rec. to test "drive" the strollers first. You can look on the individual co's sites to see where they retail locally. Luckily, the options my DH wanted to see were all at the same store, so he could do a side-by-side comparison. That store is only local here in the Austin area (Baby Earth) but also has a good website. And REI is a chain that carried several of the brands mentioned earlier (including BOB). we were very underwhelmed by the options available at our Babies "R" Us, but that was partially because we have atypical needs (rural vs. suburbs or urban use). I've also found the "Baby Bargains" book to be a great resource, as well as their site/boards. Although they don't always have a long list of recommendations, they do usually state their standards, which helped me to evaluate additional options.

Next week is my 36 week appointment, the first of the weekly ones. He still feels like he's transverse so I'm curious to see if the dr. can determine when he's flipped. Did anyone who's previously delivered notice this change? Or will it more or less coincide with when he "drops"?

I'm certainly starting to feel like the clock is on warp speed as I try to wrap up projects and prepare for his arrival. I'd like to have some meals stashed in the freezer, and have our taxes mostly prepared so that I'm not worrying about that 4/15 deadline with a newborn. (I usually self prepare and ours are complicated due to the two home-based businesses we have, plus some family partnerships my FIL set up as tax shelters, and which add complexity to our taxes, but no income  How I miss the days of the 1040-EZ, but I guess my DH is worth the hassle ;))

happy gestating to everyone!

I used to bring the stroller into the last house since there was absolutely no room in the garage for it; I guess I'm still thinking of how I used to do it since currently my decrepit Metrolite is sitting on the back porch waiting for our afternoon walk. :) I am also thinking about malls and stores too - with three kids, I'm going to be my own parade anyway, but DH notices at his office that some side-by-side models can barely fit into their doors, and the ones on top of each other can sometimes be hard to manuever.

I do have a convertible bike trailer that is side-by-side, but it just can't collapse for travel. There is an excellent video on Amazon of the BOB with a reviewer squashing it for travel - not small, but not undoable either.

David is finally awake, so it's time for a very late baby lunch here!

I haven't delivered yet but right around the 36 week appt. the doctor just declared him to be head down. I couldn't really tell myself except that I noticed that his hiccups were coming from much lower in my abdomen.

Well, it looks like Nancy is going to beat me to the delivery room :D. The doctor says that baby is right there but my cervix isn't letting him out yet (there's some TMI for Candace's husband - or any other husband lurkers ;)) She thinks I'll probably go another week so I have an appointment scheduled. I'm hoping to not have to go!

Thank you for the input on the strollers. I am leaning more towards not worrying about needing a double that can handle an infant. Madeleine will still be going to daycare while I am home, so during the day I wouldn't need something for them both. Half the time the 3 of us are out somewhere she likes to ride on David's lap anyway.

Emily - I never knew when Madeleine flipped around. Doctor just told me around 32 weeks that she had. That's about the same time that most of the kicks and the movement moved to the top of my belly.

What I can't believe is how much bigger I am this time vs last. I most definitely have a good-sized round belly that I did not have this early with M. I had my jeans on yesterday and noticed that the bottom of my shirt just reached the bottom of the panel. :( Although the maternity clothes leave a lot to be desired, fashion-wise, I was really hoping to not have to buy anything new. It is jusst so hard to find something that fits at 6'.

Regular appointment on Monday. Can't believe I am 23 weeks already. If I am remembering correctly, next appointment will be the one for the glucose test.

((Candace)) thinking good thoughts for you and your little one.

thanks to all for the insight into the head-down issue. I think he may be based on some of the guidance y'all gave (the hiccups definitely seem to originate lower than before!) but perhaps I'll learn more definitively at tomorrow's appt. (somehow it's already time for my 36 week appt! :D)

A very busy and productive weekend here as we pushed to get the nursery closer to completion. (NEVER install unfinished trim that you will someday have to go back and paint/stain  as you will then need to carefully tape off and drape dropcloths over stuff in order to do the staining!) The clothes are all sorted by size/weight, the first pack of diapers is in the caddy, and almost all the non-baby stuff is out of there. I still need to do the first couple loads of baby laundry (newborn clothes and the linens), plus none of the decorations have been hung on the walls. Plus, I need to wrap up the bumpers I made by sewing on all the fasteners so that they can actually be secured to the rails. So, maybe not as close to done as I thought :p but still much further along than we were last week. I have a pretty full slate of work booked this week, but am hoping to make some progress in the evenings... How about the other March/April mommies-to-be, are you starting to feel prepared?

another question -- for 2nd-time+ moms -- with earlier pregnancies, if you started labor naturally, *when* did it start? I've come to the realization that nearly everyone I know IRL who's had a baby in the past 5 years or so has either been induced or had a c-section (or their kiddos were 5-8 weeks early; each doing wonderfully now). Anyhoo, just curious to see when others started labor. (as in, middle of the night, during the day, etc.)

My mom had 3 kids and each time labor started overnight, so that's my default expectation. My MIL was induced for my DH and then started labor during the day for both of my SILs. Clearly labor can start at any time of the day, so when did your's?

My DH has a 40 min commute (but is only about 5 min from our hospital) so were I to go into labor at home while he's at work, we have Plans B, C, and D for getting me to the hospital where he can meet me, rather than me waiting nearly an hour for him to get home, pick me up, and return us to the same part of the city. (It might be wishful thinking but my mom, both grandmothers, and aunt all had fast deliveries for a total of 12 kids so I'm hoping that this trend continues for another generation!!)

Hi all,

Reading along and lurking ...

I'm 35 weeks this week. Getting ready. My body is so achy and tired that it would be nice for baby to come early although in reality, I would like him to weight because I'm not mentally ready.

I went swimming yesterday, which was so, so nice. I highly recommend this to all you preggo ladies. It took all the weight off, and I was able to move and stretch without pain. Heavenly. I should have done that months ago.

EmilyD - My labor with DD started in the evening, after supper. I had contractions all day, but they just felt like BH. After we got DS in bed, things picked up, and we left for the hospital around 11 p.m. She was born at 6 a.m. With DS, I was partly induced because my water was leaking. He was born at 2:37 a.m. So, my labors have both been middle-of-the-night affairs. DH is hoping to have a daytime baby this time. :)

another question -- for 2nd-time+ moms -- with earlier pregnancies, if you started labor naturally, *when* did it start?

With me, I went to my 40 week appointment and was at 4 cm (I had been 3 since 37 weeks). I had a non-stress test and it showed I was having contractions that I didn't feel. Woke up early the next morning and I was spotting. Called L&D, went it, was stilll at 4, still not feeling a contraction (although I was having them) so they sent me home.

So ... I knew it was coming, it wasn't one of those 'Oh no my water broke' moments. Started feeling mild contractions about 4:30PM and Madeleine arrived 4:30AM, so I only count those 12 hours as actual labor ;) I'll even admit to being one of those that didn't even really recognize the early contractions as such. They didn't really hurt and they weren't five minutes apart for 2 hours (what the OB wanted before we went to L&D) until 10PM that night.

I am just keeping fingers crossed that this time isn't one of those 'Oh no my water broke' moments in the middle of the night cause now we have Madeleine to contend with and closest family is 800 miles away. We have a lot of offers from friends to watch her, it is just calling them in the middle of the night that bothers me. <of course now that I mentioned it, it'll prbably be in the middle of the night :) >

I had a question about medicines. The boys both have RSV, but are "happy wheezers." I think I caught the grown-up version - I have the nastiest cough, but feel fine otherwise. Anyone know if there's anything I can take when I'm coughing up a lung at night that won't hurt the baby, or do I just need to tough it out and hope the worst is over?

Sugarbaby - Here's what's on my "approved" list from the dr. for coughs:

Robitussin
Triaminic DM
Benylin
Robitussin DM

I also remember my midwife telling me I could use the generic expectorant, which thins mucus. Ask your pharmacist about that one .. I can't remember what it's called, but it starts with a "g."

EmilyD -- I, too, have lots of puffiness in my feet and ankles and noticed that the bottom of my feet feel bruised. In looking at them they are just super-puffed. I bought a pair of Merrell Chameleon's in a 1/2 size bigger and they are really doing the trick for me at the moment. With that being said, by the end of the day my ankles are so puffy they are rubbing the tops of the shoe. My lab assistant and I decided my cankles have muffin tops! :p

I go for my 34 week check-up tomorrow. Still not sure if the baby has turned yet. I hope so!

I also found out yesterday that my prenatal vitamins were on a recall and the pharmacy could not renew my prescription. No other details have been forthcoming. Very strange, I am pretty sure they don't have any peanuts in them! Anyone heard of this? I should add they are chewable since I am a big baby when it comes to taking anything larger than an advil. The doctor told me to get some Flintstones -- I am going to go back to my standby of Centrum Chewables -- if I can find them.

Had my 40 wk check up today and still not an iota of progress :( I have an appt. at the hospital on Monday evening and they will start the induction process then. Luckily the baby isn't too big for labor at 8.5 lbs but the Dr is concerned about my small size so I may end up with a C-section anyway. But, we're going to try labor and see where it gets us.

Nothing about this pregnancy has stressed me out at all - until this. And now is not the time to be stressed!

why am I still lurking here??

just have to chime in for sarah. I was 4 days overdue with my first baby (this was 7 years ago). no progress. I am small. with small hips. there was no talk of induction or of a c-section. I don't know what your particular situation is, of course. but I don't think it is a given that you "need" a c-section or an induction.... some doctors are into inducing and c-sections and others are more inclined to let nature take its course. good luck to you! you'll be holding your baby soon (no matter how she/he gets here).

editing to add... julia was born 5 days late at 8 pounds 14 oz.... labor came on it's own and without c-section. seven years ago today. happy birthday to my baby!!

Quick de-lurk. Sarah, my first (by u/s) was supposed to be more than 9 lbs. (I can't remember, it might have been close to 10 lbs.) My ob walked in the room after the u/s and said, "yep, you are giving birth to a monster!" I am 4'10'', so they decided to give me a scheduled c-section . She ended up being 7lbs, 9oz. Those measurements can be off by a lot. We were told they can be off by 20%. I don't regret my c-section at all. And, I had a c-section with my second. I would have elected it, but she was breech so I had to do a c-section anyway.

Try not to stress too much- they all come out. One way or another!;)

Happy Birthday Julia! I remember reading about her when she was a little one!

I spend a lot of time on the Internet these days and I saw something about the prenatal vitamin recall on one of my infertility sites. Here's some info:
http://www.fda.gov/oc/po/firmrecalls/ethex02_09.html

I have been on prenatals for 3 1/2 years and I've tried many brands. The ones that are the easiest to swallow and the easiest on my stomach (when taken at dinner time - breakfast didn't work as well) are Target brand. Walgreen's premium appeared to be identical but were at least twice as expensive. But they are definitely bigger than an Advil.

Ohhh, I remember being very concerned about Evelyn's position. It was so hard to tell and I kept thinking her butt was her head and that she was transverse. Luckily, she wasn't and I hope you get good news today!!!

I am w/ Val. I'm not sure your entire situation, but I am small and there was never any talk about a c-section. Now, my doc did think E was around 7.5 pounds....and she turned out to be 8.3 pounds so he wasn't thinking she was big anyways. But, he made a comment about how he is never surprised when someone my size pops out a 9 pounder b/c thin women hide big babies well. :p My point is is that he never mentioned a c-section :) Crossing my fingers for you!

Thanks for all the encouragement ladies :)

I think that the doctor is more concerned about the size of my cervix then the size of me as a person - she even asked at one point if I was sure I had never had surgery on it! We did an US yesterday to get a better handle on his size and he's about 8 lbs 7 oz and I do have quite a bit of fluid so that's why my measurements are so far off. A lot of her initial concern had to do with the fact that I gained 3cm in my belly the last week but still there's no progress as far as delivery. At 8.5 lbs she thinks I will be fine for a vaginal birth but she doesn't want him to get to 9 or 9.5 lbs.

I'm feeling much better about the whole situation after doing some reading on inductions. Even though she told me all the details, I needed some time to wrap my head around it - plus I think her initial concern about his size and all stayed in me longer than it stayed with her ;). But like my husband said, I got pregnant in the 11th hour before I started seeing a fertility doc so maybe he'll decide to come in the 11th hour on his own :D

Again, thanks everybody, I will keep you posted!

I had an NT ultrasound/blood test this morning. There was one cooperative and active little bean in there. Based on my research, the NT measurement appeared to be well within 'normal' range, so I feel more comfortable sharing the news. I'll only hear from the OB/GYN office if the combined results are not normal. I'm seeing the same midwife as the first time, who was thrilled to see me reappear, a bit surprised by all of this, in her office.

We have 1 DD, Anna, who will be 4 next Weds.

Hey all! It feels like forever since I posted! I'd like to announce Natalie Jayne, born 2/17, weighing in at 5 lbs, 11 oz and 17.5 inches long. And let me jusy say this week feels like a blur. Sunday night I had gone to the bathroom and had bright red bleeding heavier than a period. I totally panicked and ended up at the hospital for 4 hours. I thought the placenta had detached but apparently it was deemed bloody show. Had no clue that's what it would be....They sent me home and declared I was in early stages of active labor. Fast forward to Monday night and I lost my plug. About 2 or so in the morning I started having contractions and finally got out of bed at 3. Went down stairs and worked a bit and watched tv. My goal was to make it so Nick could just go to school before we went to the hospital. I ended up in the bath tub until the boys woke up. DH came in and the contractions were around 6-7 mins apart so he hurried to get them both ready and dropped him off. When he came back, they were 4 apart. Then were 3 apart on the way to the hospital. By the time we arrived (10 min trip), they were every other minute. Apparently there had been a baby boom so there were no clean rooms. They ended up sticking me in the c-section triage to get me prepped and my sister happened to call, TG. I hadn't called anyone b/c things were going so fast! They checked me and I was 100% and a 7 and had a bulging bag of waters - I had planned on going natural but thought I was going to change my mind. Um, nurse informed me there was no time. Everyone was panicking b//c I was GBS pos and they couldn't get an IV started. They blew the veins in both hands and finally got a room cleaned for me. I was informed by the nurse that the 4 doctors on call, including mine, were all tied up and they found a midwife or they could call an ER doc. Um, didn't care, just needed someone to catch. They checked me again (all the while worrying about the ^*%$%-ing IV) and I was at a 10 - time to push! I pushed 10 mins (after 2 my mom showed up, after 5 mins my sister showed up) and out came little Natalie! With blond hair! We had been admitted at 7:57 am and she was born at 9:05. It was the most wonderful experience I could have imagined. DH and I were almost euphoric after she was born.

We're finally back home now and doing great. Nick is in love with her which is a huge stress relief! BFing is going well - milk came in yesterday. She seems to want to contstantly snack though and I'm not sure how that's going to build my supply. Last night we even had a 5 hr stretch of sleep (knocking on wood!). She's such a small peanut so I'm a little paranoid. We have a weight check tomorrow and hopefully she's fine. Can I just say how in love I am? Here are some pics:

fancyn, she is stunning! I'm so happy for you - and it sounds that you had the labor/delivery you wanted, despite the craziness! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Congratulations Nancy! She is beautiful.

Not much going on here. I am sick with a nasty head cold. Really congested so I am not sleeping well. The only thing on my list is sudafed, which I discovered last time does absolutely nothing but totally dry me out, so I haven't bothered. I did discover that peppermint stick ice cream does help clear out the sinuses though ;) I am just waiting for my little friend to stop singing to herself and fall asleep already so I can do the same. :)

Nancy, she's gorgeous! Congratulations.

(Your labor sounds a lot like mine w/Anna. Midwife sent me from her office straight to hospital at 10:15am, at 7cm and 100% effaced. Anna was born at 11:40 . I try not to share the story too much, most others I know went a lot longer than that)

Congratulations Nancy and welcome Natalie Jayne! She's beautiful.

I've gotten a couple of PM's so I figured it would be easier to post my update here. I'm still home. After consulting with the neonatologist and perinatologist earlier this week, we decided to move the hospital admission to the 24w5d mark, which is a week from today. I'll "check in" early in the morning and start steroid injections to try to mature his lungs - assuming nothing happens between now and then. My mom got here Friday and will stay for a week. I am currently instructing her from the couch on how to make my favorite cookies:D

Congratulations on Natalie Jayne! She's beautiful! I LOVE the name Natalie! If one of the boys had been girl, he would have been a Natalie!

Can I just say that I'm only 6 weeks along, and STARVING all of the time! We're going to have to expand our grocery budget to feed me. :p I seriously think I've gained weight just in the last week. Is it too early for maternity clothes? :p

Good to hear from you cangoss. Still praying for you and your little guy!

Congratulations Nancy! And welcome Natalie! She's adorable. Laughed when I read about waiting at home long enough to send Nicholas to school- that was my main concern too. I was watching the clock and breathing through contractions thinking "if I can just make it til 7:00 AM, we can take Ryan to school!" Our labors sound pretty similar too- fast and furious- though once I had the epidural things slowed down while we waited for Aiden to shift positions. So so happy for you!!

Welcome jadenegro!

Welcome jadenegro and MinEaston!

Candace - I am happy to see you posting.

Well, I earned myself 3 days of modified bed rest, a round of antibiotics and an inhaler. To keep David from bugging me :o I made an appointment for the doctor today because my 'cold' wasn't getting too much better and my cough was getting worse (Robitussim not helping). Turns out I have 'walking pneumonia' and am a bit dehydrated. Apparently getting winded waling to the cafeteria should have been my first clue.

She stuck me on modified bed rest because she doesn't want me to get too winded walking around and doing things. I guess it is a good thing the drugstore had all their magazines on sale 50% off. Picked up some new reading material.

Oh Maria I do hope you start feeling better soon! I get winded at times but that's because I'm pretty much huge as a house and my lungs are getting squished from the bottom; I'd have ignored it too, so I'm glad your husband made you see the doctor. :)

Welcome Mineaston and jadenegro, and I too am glad to see Candace posting. Our EDD's are so close, and these next 6 weeks or so are where I worry the most during pregnancy, so I keep hoping all we hear is continued good news from her.

In non-pregnancy related happy news, today we sign the final papers selling our old house; the buyer is signing right now, so we know it's a done deal! Realtor fees are amazing though when you see them on paper.

Hi Ladies,

Whew. I can't believe that Sarah45 and I are next on the list! Where has the time gone? The last few weeks have really been hectic with twice weekly monitoring at the hosipital, work, appointments after work...it's really been exhausting and I've missed coming here and chatting! Last week, my bp started to rise despite the meds so this past weekend we spent a lot of time in triage while they determined that I am not preeclamptic. There was talk of inducing me yesterday, but since I am not one iota dilated, they decided to wait on induction. It was a very emotional weekend, because every time we headed to the hospital we left home thinking we'd be bringing home a baby! If the baby isn't here by my due date (March 8) then they will induce me. I'm hoping that will give my body some much needed time to get things going on its own! So after all that, my dr. decided that I needed to stop working. So, as much as I wanted to keep working as long as I could, this is really the best thing.

Welcome to the new moms-to-be! And congratulations to fancyn- your little girls is just precious. I'll have to go back through the posts and see what else I've missed, as I really have missed a lot since I was last here.

Hope everyone is feeling good!
Kim

Can I join too? :) My EDD is 9/25. I've been lurking for a few weeks (didn't want to jinx myself by posting too too early!).

Natalie is such a beautiful baby. I love her name.

I haven't been cooking much for the past 4 weeks, as I've been way too nauseous. But I haven't met a carb I didn't like during that time. :o Fortunately, fruits and vegetables are no longer making me sick.

This is my second. My DD will be 3 in April. I also have 3 stepkids. We are going to have a full house!

Hi Allison and welcome! 9/25 is a nice due date - it's my birthday. ;) Both pregnancies all I could eat were carbs during the first trimester.

I made my quick trip out of the house to pick everyone up and I am back in bed. I am feelilng a bit better - probably because I am not really moving, therefore I am not coughing as much. David was in charge of supper and bath for Madeleine. I'll admit I was curious when she came upstairs for her bathing suit and a swim diaper  but I stayed out of it.

Hi, Maria!! I remember your name from the CLC on WW :) Are you still posting there?

Bathing suit and swim diaper? In February? Maybe they were going swimming in the bath tub ;)

Well, I have had a hectic past week.

At my 34 week checkup last Friday my blood pressure was up so I was sent to the hospital for monitoring and blood and urine work. Of course this was on Friday when DH was out-of-town on a fishing trip with BIL. My friend on stand-by came and sat with me the whole time which was really nice of her. I then had to do the 24 hr urine collection thing which was no fun.

Monday we had an US and doctor visit -- no pre-eclampsia, but gestational hypertension. Now I have twice weekly visits until I deliver. Fun.

The up-side -- I get weekly US. Monday we got to see the baby, and wow what a difference 15 weeks make! What a sweet face, all squished in there. He/she measures a 5 lbs 11 oz. Not bad considering we are 5 weeks out. At least I am not officially on bed rest yet, and the situation is not more serious. I have been trying to take it easy and still get everything done on my lists. So far, so good. DH has been great as has everyone else that has been called into service!

Congrats to Nancy and family. What a cutie with that blonde hair!

Hang in there cangoss -- sounds like you have a good support system.

Welcome to the new additions! The list sure is getting longer!

I just wanted to pop in to tell tperes that I also have gestational hypertension. The big fear is that it will turn into pre-eclampsia, so there have been lots of visits to the doctor and twice weekly monitoring just like you described. Those 24 hour urine catches are fun, eh? Especially if you're working...I was lucky that I was not this last time I had to do one. My bp was getting slightly higher and higher, so my dr had me stop working this week (38 weeks). Anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that your diagnosis stays as hypertension and they you stay feeling good!

Thanks Kim! Yes, I was lucky the 24 hour urine was on a Friday/Saturday. It never even occurred to me what I would do in the middle of the week! I guess I would just stay home. Public bathrooms at a university are not really good for that kind of activity!

I am just about to leave for my non-stress test appointment. I hope my BP isn't too bad. I really don't want to spend more time in the hospital. I will be prepared this time with laptop and reading materials.

I, too, hope that it doesn't turn into more and I can keep off of bed rest for a few more weeks. Good luck with your last few weeks, and thanks for the supportive words.
