This isn't a recipe request, b/c I can search, but a story of a Humbling Foodie Moment. I needed 3 zucchini. I picked the best ones, bagged them, paid for them, unloaded them at home, removed the stickers as I prepared to wash them--and only THEN did I realize I had bought 3 cucumbers. :D Ummm; was my brain involved in this grocery trip at all? And now I have to go back for zucchini, plus figure out what to do with 3 springtime veggies when it's cool out & I want comfort food.
Anyone else been an idiot shopper? Kind of humbling, after all my mental wisecracks about what other people put into their baskets. :p :D Maybe they don't really know they've just bought Velveeta . . .
BTW, I plan to try CL's Couscous-Garbanzo salad to use up one cucumber--which, ironically, I didn't plan to make yesterday because I "didn't have a cucumber." :p (Link here: http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=1622451)

It's those moments when my memory bank blocks access...enough other cr@p floating around in there that there's not enough room for all the idiocy!:p;) I have on occasion made out a list and not bought the first 3 items...those which the shopping trip was based on.
And I know exactly when I put Velveeta in my basket...it has a place in my kitchen and I hate the way it's bashed around here...chile con queso y carne just isn't the same with any other cheese, imho.

No offense intended with the Velveeta crack. :) Should I add that the only reason I don't buy Velveeta is that I'm too lazy to make queso from scratch and have just bought the Tostitos jars of queso? ;) :D

LOL! Now that just cracks me up...the woman who obsessed over the perfect turkey doesn't make queso?;)

Well, you don't serve queso with turkey. :o :D
This seems like a good time for you to share your queso recipe. Is it just Ro-Tel plus Velveeta, or a little more highbrow? ;)
(of course, b4 I made yours, I'd have to use up the 2 extra jars of Tostitos queso that my DS convinced me to buy at Sam's b4 the Super Bowl, when Sam's had the 3-pack . . .)

Ah, yes -- the brain freeze! I can't count the number of times that I've had something on my list and come home with everything but the main one!:o In my case, though, I just shrug and say, "Senior moment," and everyone in my social group understands!:p
I don't know about Sneezles' recipe for queso, but mine is (made only once a year).
2-lb block of Velveeta
1 can chopped green chilis
some milk, for melting
Salsa Brava (by La Victoria) to taste
A favorite at the "Southern Cabin Trip!":D We used to have this a couple of nights a week, when all the younger folks would come over, and this was the cheapest way to keep them from eating me out of house and home!:p
Interested to hear about other recipes!

The basic recipe is the same Velveeta, plus salsa, plus salsa verde, milk and the carne part varies with the mood (either breakfast sausage or leftover taco meat). I quit using Rotels quite a while ago because I find them rather bitter, didn't always though. We also like to use HEB's white/blanco processed cheese since that gets a bit closer to Escalante's queso blanco (restaurant in Houston) but we only add 2 cans of the salsa verde to this.
Chile con Queso y Carne
1 pound Velveeta
1/4-1/3 cup milk-depends on how thin or thick you prefer the queso
1 Cup salsa (our current favorite is Texas-Texas Medium, also sold at HEB-as it has no added sugar, fat/oil, water and the sodium is only 125/2tbs)
1 7oz can Herdez salsa verde
1 tube pork breakfast sausage, browned, or leftover taco meat
Add all to the slow cooker, start on high and stir often. Once cheese begins to melt reduce to low stirring occasionally.
A couple years ago I made a special trip to the store to pick up whatever fruit looked eddible for a fruit salad for Valentine's breakfast. I ended up comming back with green salad fixings, lettuce, green onions, tomato, pepper, etc. Not a bad salad, but not exactly breakfast food.

Oh, good Lord. Here I go again.
I just got back from the Special Trip to the Store to Pick Up the Same Darn Zucchini from Yesterday. On my list, I had added a few things, such as "12 oz tomatoes--plus more" and "2 tomatoes." I have no recollection of whether this is for the same recipe, two different recipes  . . . keeping in mind that I already bought 2 Romas yesterday for the quiche I'm planning.
Maybe this isn't a good week to get near a knife? :D
(btw, thanks for the queso recipe. Not this week, though--I'd probably add beets or something. :o)

LOL! I have most certainly had the brain freeze after getting home from the grocery store. "Okay, this was on the list and now I have no idea why."
(Thanks for the chuckle.)

I played a little prank on my coworker several months ago - she had a sticky note on her desk and had wrote down her grocery list. Two items she has was milk and bread. So being funny I wrote "Duds" beside where she had wrote "Milk" and then beside "Bread" I wrote "pudding". She realized what I had done shortly later- we had a good laugh - we both could have visualized her getting home with her milk duds and bread pudding and wondering why the heck she bought them, and where was the bread and milk she needed? :D

I do that sort of thing all the time.
Here's a yummy easy salad with a creamy horseradish dressing. I had a huge leftover English cucumer when I made this so I double or tripled the cucumber. Worked out b/c I love them.

you're in good company. i just wish those moments were limited only to the grocery shopping, instead of occurring in just about every area of my life. ;)

What's worse, is sometimes I do that with my medicine! I go back into my medicine cabinet and think to myself, "Did I take that pill yet today or not? And which would be worse, taking two or skipping it?"

And which would be worse, taking two or skipping it?"Ah, yes -- I did that until I started laying out my pills in a case for a week at a time! But I have to do that when no one's around, because if someone talks to me while I'm doing it, I may as well start over! Ah, the joys...:D
