I just bought ground red chipotle from Penzey's. Can it be substituted for the canned? Does anyone have a preference? I have frozen canned chipotles in my freezer but thought that this might be easier... and as tastey?

I have both and use both for completely different applications. The ground chipotles I use mainly to spice up meat rubs, enchiladas, egg dishes, even marinades. Places that a normal minced chipotle would have trouble getting into. I use the canned when I want the extra punch of the adobo sauce as well! Of course, I also bought ground Adobo seasoning from Penzeys as well!
I use the whole pepper when I can, and the ground when I need the flavor and heat but don't need the actual pepper floating around. It's also SO convenient!!

I'm with Jewel on that one. Each has it's own use. Get both!
