View Full Version : Trouble with website?

Hi, I know that this is the BB technical support board, not a general cookinglight.com webmaster troubles alert thing, but I thought I'd report that when I tried to use the submit letter feature on another page of the website, it sent me back a message of 'the parameter is incorrect.'

I've tried to report a problem with the website before (on the "Letters" recipe page), and never gotten a response, and the problem still exists.

Could somebody take a look at the "Letters" recipe page and see why a lot of the URLs are useless?

And also take a look at the 'submit letter' page to see what might be going on?

Thanks for any assistance you might be able to provide.

Here's the URL for the submit letter page that gave me such a weird message:
http://www.cookinglight.com/community/submit_letter_to_editor.asp

Here's my original letter:

Hi,

I'm writing about this page on the website:

http://www.cookinglight.com/special/letterrecipes.asp

Are the recipes listed by title on that page all supposed to be accessible by internet forever?

Starting with the recipe title for Anzac Biscuits, the recipes all seem to have this format:
file:///Jennifer%27s%20Mac/Desktop%20Folder/Jan01anzac.asp
and don't 'really' lead anywhere.

Recipe titles following that date (i.e., listed above it on that webpage) all seem to have a useful URL something like www.cookinglight.com ...

I'm writing here because I sent an e-mail somewhere a while back and never got a response, and the problem never got fixed. I'm hoping this might at least be received by someone who can take a look.

Thanks. News never got to us about the recipes on the "Letters" page being incorrect. Unfortunately, we are undergoing some technical changes so I can't correct the page for about 10 days (it's now going to drive me crazy until then). Let me know if you need any of the recipes immediately, and I'll email them to you.

About the submit a letter to the editor. What type browser are you using (Netscape, Internet Explorer, AOL, etc.)? And, when did the problem occur? Have you tried it since then? Let me know. I tested it, and it worked fine for me, but it still may need tweaking.

Thanks again,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

I don't really need any of the recipes, exactly, but I did think someone 'in a position to do something' should take a look at those weird URLs'. I should have known that the lack of response to my initial inquiry was a sign that the message went off into the ether instead of wherever it was supposed to go.

Everyone's so good about sharing recipes on the BB that I've managed to find most of the recipes that interested me without too much hassle. (Search feature being willing, LOL!) :D

I use Netscape 4.75, if that info is any use to you, but I haven't tried the 'submit letter' form again. I didn't select the 'send me your e-newsletter' options, if that makes any difference. :)

Is there a particular e-mail address to use when reporting technical, website function problems and questions for the cookinglight.com site?
I find the current layout and 'contact us' choices a bit difficult to weed through. (And I think I remember that one of the addresses given was useless, but I wasn't a member of the CL boards at the time, so I didn't follow through trying to notify someone about THAT, either, sorry. )
Thanks again for any information,

Anna

Anna,

You can email me directly with technical questions.
jennifer_middleton@timeinc.com

I'm always happy to find out about broken links, such as the one on the "Letters" page, so that they can be fixed.

Thanks for the feedback, Jennifer, it's a help.

Next time I get the chance I'll see if I can make that page 'do' the same thing again. :)
