I just read one of his books but I can't remember the title--something about optimum health. I liked what he had to say about high and low glycemic foods. I thought the nutrition information was probably more than I needed to know--it brought back flashbacks of college biochemistry--but what he had to say made sense. I don't know if I would use any of his recipes. Since I was borrowing the book, I ran out of time to really look at them to see if any looked good.
Like I said, I thought the information on high and low glycemic foods was very helpful. I've tried the Atkins diet where you try to cut out carbohydrates and just thought that was awful. It makes more sense to just cut out the carbohydrates that enter your blood stream the fastest.
I saw the paperback version of his book at Target for a reasonable price and may go back and get it.

Kim;
I think I've read ALL of his books! My husband claims that he saved our marriage -- Dr. Weil says that vegetarians should eat flaxseed to help boost omega-3, 6 and 9 fatty acid intake to prevent depression. When I started eating flaxseed on a regular basis, my moods began to stabilize and I've noticed a huge difference.
I use his advice all the time, and really believe in what he says. Some people think he's a quack, and I have to admit I don't use any of his "tinctures", but his nutritional advice seems sound to me.
Just my $.02!!

I'm currently reading his Eating Well For Optimum Health and I'm loving the information. I now understamd alot more about nutrition and how to apply my new knowledge when reading labels and choosing what I'm going to eat. (I put down a few things at Trader Joe's yesterday because they contained partially hydrogenated oils. I also could not bring myself to pay over $3.00 a doz for eggs from free range chickens. Maybe next time.....)
I also like the recipes that are in the back of the book. I've made a few and will continue to try other recipes.
If you choose to read this book, Enjoy!!!

Yes, I have read the book on health, living and nutrition. I believe that much of the nutritional information is valid. Basically, it reinforces what many of us already know, although I did discover some new information.
Generally, he preaches the importance of eating whole grain foods, vegetables, limiting red meats, including fishes, eliminating saturated fats, etc.....not real new information.
However, I would find it impossible to eat the way he recommends on a daily basis, only because I live with a person(DH) who is still gradually modifying his diet to be more healthy but has a long way to go, and two teenage boys who are heavily influenced by other forces. Fortunately they are also being taught at home what healthier alternatives are!
I think his book is definitely worth reading and considering many of his recommendations.
As a health professional myself, I would say that if everyone followed these guidelines, our disease rate would drop dramatically.

Eating Well for Optimal Health is a really good book. Even if you don't want to follow all of his recommedations, it is good to educate yourself on what you are putting in the body. I recommend you check out used book stores in your area because there is often a used copy available for cheap.

I own the book and have read through it several times. I actually liked reading the detailed information about how your body processes macronutrients and micronutrients (maybe because I didn't take biochem in college? :) )
I have started following several of Dr. Weil's recommendations... avoiding partially hydrogenated oils, adding flaxseed to my diet, incorporating a better ratio of high and low-glycemic index foods into meals, etc.
I think it's definitely worth a look, even if you don't end up buying into every one of Dr. Weil's arguments.
P.S. I found my copy in a used book store, just as m4star mentioned above.

I really love watching Dr. Weil when I see him on various TV shows. I think his philosophy on food is right on.
His books are very good and I also have a subscription to his newsletter.
Did you know he has a website
