I bought a squash at our farmer's market this week. The only problem is, the kid selling it didn't know what variety it was. It is medium green with very thin darker green stripes, and is about a foot long. I recently moved to Northern California and had never seen this type before. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Hi,
A Zucchini maybe?
And Wonderwoman, Welcome to the board.
I see this is your first post. I look forward to seeing other posts from you, and some of your recipes and input.
If that Squash is a Zucchini, check out some of the Zucchini threads here for some fine recipes.

Welcome! I too go to the farmer's market a lot, and sometimes they can tell you the name or how to cook it. (habla espanol?)
;) It does sound like a variety of zucchini. Most of the summer squashes are pretty much the same, as far a cooking!

Thanks for the information! Now I'm off in search of a great zucchini recipe; I'm sure there are some excellent ones on the board. :)
Hi wonderwoman. Does your squash have a skin (soft, can pierce with thumbnail) or a rind (like a pumpkin or winter squash). If it has a hard rind it might be a kuta and should be treated like a winter squash. Is is green all the way around or is it yellow to orange on the bottom (where it lay on the ground). Good luck.
