Happy May Day, runners! DH says his family always celebrated May Day when he was little, and everyone got May Day baskets. Must be a Northern thing? It was never really recognized at our house/school. What about you guys?

Had a great run last night, running w/a few new people in the group (new to me, that is). 5 miles. Really steady clip, but not too fast. I could have pushed more, but was enjoying the social aspect. So, it's close enough to count as a tempo run in my book :-) Decided to be social & went for burgers afterwards. Fun group of people. They are planning to do a marathon together in Italy next fall. I might need to get to know them better :-)

Today is a rest day, as tomorrow is a race/long run. I'm entered in a local 20K race (a little over 12 miles). The running club is meeting early to run beforehand. I think it will be good simulation for running while tired on race day. Never done this approach, so looking forward to seeing how my body adjusts.

DH is doing a 75-mile bike ride on Sun to raise money for the Humane Society.

Anyone else have fun plans for the weekend?? It's looking to be a gorgeous one here.

Susan - Thanks for starting us out this week. That's fantastic that you're getting in all these great runs. I'm looking forward to hearing how tomorrow goes.

May Day? No, not a big one for us. We're more in the Cinco de Mayo crowd, being in Southern Cal and all. That's cute about the May baskets though. Were they sort of like Easter baskets? With candy?

I have nothing to report but the same old sickness. I still have that achy-all-over thing going on, combined with a scratchy throat and headache. I'm hosting bunco tonight and dh's birthday dinner tomorrow. The timing is super.

Here's to a great weekend!

Tkay, bummer that you are still feeling under the weather as we head into the weekend. :( You need to shake this thing! Take it easy and let your family nurse you a bit.

Susan, good job on your run yesterday. And good luck on your race tomorrow. I have never heard of a 20K before....I wonder what the motive is for not just making it a half? We have a run here in KC that is a 4mile run. Not a 5K or 10K, just a 4 mile run. I always thought that was a little odd, too.
Regardless, though, we will definitely want to hear all about it! Hope you get a good night's rest tonight! :)

Yoga for me this AM, followed by 35 min on the TM (EASY run). Celebrating my mom's BD tonight with a few other relatives. I am not allowed to say how old she is. I did say it when I announced it in church Sunday, and I got an elbow in the ribs! Honestly, I was just reporting the facts.... :p

We used to do May baskets when I was a kid, but we made them (little paper cone/pipe cleaner jobs), filled them with a few flowers and a couple of pieces of candy. The fun part was that we took them to our NEIGHBORS, hung them on the doorknob, rang the bell and ran. You didn't ever want to get caught. It was very fun!

So Happy May Day to all of you, too! :)

I get the feeling that the more winter you have....the more you celebrate May Day! Love the idea of ringing & leaving the basket

re: 20K....the race goes around one of the local lakes, so that's how the arrived at the odd number. It sounds long to me b/c of the 20, but it's not even a half marathon.

We did the same May baskets, too, but with only flowers. :D

And I just thought of this. Today is the first time I can remember that I did not follow our family (???) tradition of

oh you're all going to think that this is nuts...

walking downstairs backwards on May Day, walking outside (still backwards) and washing our faces in the dew on the grass.

See, didn't I tell you? You're all laughing, I know it!!! :o

My Gram swore by this, and she had wonderful skin. I would bet that Mom did this today, and I wonder if it will work the same way if I do my dew-washing tomorrow. I can't believe that I forgot.

Okay, TKay I hope that you get through your weekend "events" with minimal discomfort and that you're soon feeling better.

Good luck tomorrow Susan!

Again, forced inactivity for me today (oh, except for a visit to a John Deere store to try to rein DH in as he chooses a new tractor. That kind of excitement is just too much for someone of my delicate health...) ;)

Hope that you all have a great weekend!

Thanks for starting Susan. It looks like it's going to be a busy weekend for a lot of people.

Susan - I love those "odd" races, we do a series in the winter in Norfolk: 20k, 25k, 30k - ostensibly to prepare for the Shamrock Marathon (they space the races out to match most training plan long runs).
Vicci - Too funny about the family tradition then having to rein DH in at the Tractor store. Sounds like he's having fun regardless.
TKay - Back in the land of Cinco de Mayo... San Diego was such a grand place in early May... miss it a little. I'm sorry you're under the weather - hope you get back in the game soon.
Kathy B - I say you should tell how old your mom is. I did at my mom's last birthday (of course she was 70). I hope you have a good weekend.

It's odd. I realized I'm done with this semester in 17 days (actually 17 days from noon). I'm ready for the semester and school year to be done but not ready to traverse from here to there. Still all will be well and I'm making good progress. In fact I had time today to go for a ride and crashed around on my bike (slugging out on the mountain bike). Soon the road bike comes off the trainer and I can zip around.

I hope to get out and run tomorrow and maybe a little after my three services (including my last sermon at my internship parish) on Sunday. I think I'll need the time outside.

Happy trails,
Les

Vicci - that is one of the absolute craziest things I've ever heard! but....I still think you should keep doing it every year anyway

Les - hopefully you didn't mean crashing around in the literal sense ;-) So glad you could get out. It's got to be a great mental break for you during this busy time.

I had a fabulous day today & feeling quite good. I logged 20.4 miles!! I love hitting that 20-mile milestone. It's very gratifying. Met the running club very early and ran 8 miles. I ended up running with a guy I had shadowed on a recent log run a few weeks ago. So, this time we ran side by side & chatted a bit. Super nice guy. Very steady pace. Then we had just enough time to pick up timing chips & stand in the porta potty line, and it was race time. Beautiful course around the lake, cool neighborhoods, views of the capitol, lots of boats out today. It was clear and about 50. Just perfect. With the race I started out a bit too fast, but settled in around mile 4. Felt quite good until around mile 10 (which was really 18 for me), when I really slowed down. But, overall still finished with a time I'm happy with for an LSD day. Lots of friends. Great live music. Fab weather. DH and I are now just reading & relaxing in the back yard.

DH's bike ride is tomorrow, and I've arranged a puppy play date for Bode :-) A friend of ours has a 7-m.o. golden retriever named....wait for it....Butter (cracks me up!) I'm going to make Rice Krispie treats as a surprise for DH when he gets home (it's a personal fav of his)

Hope everyone else is having a great weekend.

Kathy that cracks me up that your mom elbowed you at church!

Vicci I concur, out of the house backwards washing with dew? I've never heard of such a thing.

Les Glad you got a ride in.

Susan Congrats on passing that 20 mile mark!

I woke up this morning and was looking at mapmyrun when my coach im'd me wondering what I was up to today. I told her I was running but looking for a different run spot just to switch things up a bit so we settled on heading up to Sloan's Lake where neither of us had ever been and running a loop there. It's exactly 2.5 miles around so I did 2 loops while she did 2+. I felt great, it was nice and cool and it was pretty flat so I was able to run the entire 5 miles. Another first!

Leslie Ferguson

Susan - Congratulations on running 20.4 miles today. That is always the hurdle isn't it? Yes, crashing around is figurative. Although I'm more apt to go over a curb or through a pothole on my mountain bike - which is what I rode yesterday so there is often a little "crashing" going on - lots of noise from the rattling of the frame. Plus I have new brakes on the bike so I've been known to go zorching in and panic stopping on occasion these days. Hope you had a quiet rest this afternoon with DH - especially after his 75 miles on the bike.
Robyn - Woo! Hoo! 5 miles without stopping is a great thing. 10k here you come.

Paced myself today. Did a bunch of work on my sermon for tomorrow - good to have it in the bag and practiced a few times. ((wholly off topic mind you)) The biggest thing I accomplished is the paperwork for the Post-9/11 GI Bill for next year. I finally qualify for education assistance and sign-ups opened yesterday. So I decided to forgo my run (in the rain :( ) to get funding for school for next year! :)

Time grows short - hope all are well and maybe a run tomorrow to kick off my week.

Happy trails,
Les

A little over 2 weeks and you're done with the school year, Les! Then you'll have time to run and bike and do "stuff". Good luck with the three (!) sermons tomorrow. :)

Susan, your race (plus run) sounded great. Everything seemed to come together so well for you, congratulations! And a play date for Bode (with Butter!) tomorrow. Are you curled up on the sofa with DH, munching rice krispie treats right about now??? ;)

And your run sounded fun, too, Robyn. I am running vicariously through you all now!

Yes, I did the backward-walking dew-washing this morning, and hoping that being 24 hours off doesn't mean that my facial skin will turn on me suddenly in the coming year. :o Every little bit helps! DH was certain that I was going to fall down the stairs and break another ankle, though... but I made certain that I was wide awake before I started!

I'm still doing that lovely asthma hacking. By the time I go to bed, my sides hurt and most likely I will have a headache. But I managed a .31 mile walk with Spooky today, so I don't feel like such a lump. I keep thinking that I'll be running any day now, so we shall see.

Hi to everyone else out there (hope that you are feeling much better, TKay)!

Vicci good job on getting out, even if it's just for a bit.

Les that's great that you can get some funding for your education!

Well, I got out for an easy 21 miles on the bike today. I went out with a friend and she was pulling her almost three year-old in a trailer so we were much slower than I normally go but after yesterday's run it probably was good to take it easy. Funny though, it was a speed that was normal for me last year for a distance that was longish. Oh how a winter of spinning will change what's easy. Hopefully next year at this time 5 miles will be an easy recovery style run! :p

Kathy B

4.5 miles for me this AM. It is beautiful outside, so I had to take advantage of it. Took the dogs for a cooldown walk, too.

Robyn, isn't it gratifying when you realize your fitness level really has improved because you can do things with less effort than before? Every now and then when I have to run someplace quickly, I think how nice it is to be able to do it without huffing and puffing by the time I get there. Nice to see some payoff!

Susan, I can't believe you did an 8-mile warmup before your race!! Sounds like a great day, and a great race. Congrats on getting past the 20 mile mark.

Vicci, I think the backwards stair thing sounds like a disaster waiting to happen if I tried it, but the dew washing is a fun/cute tradition. Is this a family thing, or how did the tradition start? I always wonder about things like that....who was the first to say "I'll bet if I do this it will be good for my skin for a whole year?" :p

Les, how well we know that funding for school is a priority. DS can attest to that as we have had him filling out scholarship apps all year long. Good for you to use the rainy day to knock so much off of your "to do" list.

Tkay, how was your DH's birthday? I hope you didn't have a relapse between hosting bunco and a birthday while you were under the weather! You deserve a rest day.

DD did the Relay for Life Friday night, and she played an oboe solo at church Sunday for both services. I had been telling her she should play her solo, but she didn't want to. Then her band director told her she should do it, and she said OK immediately. I have no clout. ;)

Yesterday DS had his graduation party and senior recital. He hasn't graduated yet, but he wanted to do it early to avoid the end of the school year rush. He played 8 pieces....two on the marimba, two on the snare drum and 4 on the piano. It lasted about an hour and then we had a cake/punch reception. He had a really good turnout, because he has played off and on at our church for years. A lot of church members came as well as family, friends and teachers. That was nice for him, because the bigger the audience, the better he plays! After it was over, we went home and pretty much collapsed on the sofas. :o It was a great day, but we were all exhausted. :o

Hope everyone's week is off to a good start!

Vicci - Now that there's mention of collecting flowers for May baskets, it's starting to sound familiar. Maybe we made May baskets? I can't remember. But I know we didn't walk downstairs backwards and wash our faces in the morning dew! What an interesting tradition. Sorry about the hacking and sore sides. I feel for you.

Les - The end is near--and I mean that in a good way! Hope everything went well yesterday. Maybe you can squeeze in a margarita tomorrow in honor of your former San Diego days?

Susan - Wow! Over 20 miles. You are a rock star. I'm glad everything went so well. I love the name Butter. It was one of the contenders for our new pup (she's a yellow lab). Alas, we landed on Sadie (but I secretly still prefer Butter).

Robyn - Great going on the 5-miler! That's fantastic. I love that you can really see your progress. It's motivating, isn't it?

KathyB - Congrats on ds's (early) graduation party and recital. I bet you'll be glad you checked those activities off the list come June. Good job on your run too. Funny about having no clout with DD. ;)

I am finally feeling better. I got through my hosting duties this weekend without a hitch. Everything was really fun and relaxing. For dh's birthday dinner, I made chipotle pork tacos and an apple pie for desert. Easy breezy. Yesterday, we had no plans so I (gasp!) went back to sleep in an effort to recover. That extra rest really helped. I am going to get back on the TM today after some time away. Being a glass-half-full person, I'm viewing my break as "recovery time."

Happy Monday, everyone. And hello to Oceanjasper, Meg, Nat and everyone else I've inadvertently missed.

Forgot to tell you all about a great shirt I saw at the race on Sat. I might have to track it down for myself. A girl ran past me, and on the back of her t-shirt, at the very bottom it read:

"Does this shirt make my bu$$ look fast?"

:-)

Leslie Ferguson

TKay - A margarita at the Mexican Village in Coronado sounds like fun, and if not there there's a place in Old Town that makes out of this world Margaritas.

I'm glad you got a short walk in Vicci, something is better than nothing.
I love the shirt Susan, I bet that was a hoot to see, especially since it was passing you (as it would have been with me I'm afraid).
Isn't it nice to be building fitness Robyn, I'm glad you're doing well.
You don't know how much the $$ helps with school, considering I was paying for most of my school and books as it was.

I had a great three-peat at church, well received on all accounts. I spent the rest of the afternoon getting new scoots for my scoot (that would be car) to the tune of ~$600. Got the must do things off my list for the day, did a spin for a half-hour after dinner (I hope I don't pay for that) en route to writing a sermon for Friday.

Done cooli. Happy trails all,
Les

Les congrats on finally being able to get that monetary assistance for your tuition. When do you plan to take your bike off of the trainer?

Robyn, I think that it’s so great to raise your fitness level so that what used to seem a bit difficult is now smooth sailing! Think of what you’ll be doing next year. ;)

I’m so glad that you’re back in the saddle (treadmill, actually) Tkay. It takes a strong woman to get through hostess duties in that type of situation. :)

Okay Susan, my favorite t-shirt, which I saw a couple of weeks before my birthday, read:

Inside this shirt
is an 18-year-old
wondering what in the hell happened

:D

You have such a musical family Kathy—that’s so very cool! A good friend’s daughter is finishing her first year at college on a full oboe scholarship, and she is considering studying in Ireland in the fall. Will your DS, with his musical instrument repertoire (sp??), continue doing this in college?

And you asked about the dew-washing, but I realized that it was a family tradition and I had no idea where it started. So I asked my Mom when I talked to her this weekend and apparently my Gram’s grandmother told her, when she was a very little girl, that doing this would get rid of her Irish freckles! It didn’t work for that, but as I said, my Gram had beautiful skin so I continue the tradition. Also important to note that when this tradition was begun, Gram lived in a single-storey house. My Mom still does, and she says that she thinks of me every May Day, traversing backwards down our staircase first thing in the morning. ;) She knows me well…

Okay, another short walk today, followed by a lengthy coughing fit. When WILL this clear up???? I’m getting a bit tired of it. But I let DH know that sometime during this rainy week we are going to spend a couple of hours getting our bikes ready and next week, I’m going riding. Period!

And a hi to everyone else!!!

Vicci I'm really worried about you! Have you seen a specialist about this? You've had x-rays and what not right? :(

Kathy uh, yeah, I would have collapsed on the sofa with all you did this weekend!

Tkay So glad you're feeling better.

Les did someone say margaritas? Mmmmm!

Well, another first for me. I swam a full mile tonight! I can only imagine what my shoulders will feel like tomorrow and Wednesday but I'm super happy about this. It bodes well for my ability to do the olympic tri in August that I'm hoping for. :D

VictoriaL
05-04-2009, 08:49 PM
Wow Robyn, swimming a mile! Yes, those shoulders will make themselves known for a few days, but they get used to it. Then you'll be swimming 1 1/2 miles and not thinking twice...

And thanks so much, but please don't worry. This is the tail end of a bad asthma attack, and it's going as expected. The problem is that I only get these every 5 years or so, and I am unprepared with how it knocks me down. I never should have gone out for a run 2 days after receiving my initial breathing treatment, but since I only began running a couple of years ago, I didn't know. It just takes time. Looooong, slooooooow time... Meanwhile I am organizing my dresser drawers and dreaming of running my trails.

Les congrats on finally being able to get that monetary assistance for your tuition. When do you plan to take your bike off of the trainer?

Quickly, I would have taken it off a couple weeks ago and gotten it tuned up but considering riding inside these days may be the best thing (at least for balance and theraputic action) I will probably wait until the middle of the week next week to take it off. There have been beautiful days to ride outside but having the bike inside to allow me to read and ride has been beneficial this year.

Sorry for the $0.50 answer to the $0.02 question.

Happy trials,

Les - love the Freudian slip!

Vicci - definitely hope this is the tail end & you're back to yourself soon

Robyn - awesome job on the swim. You can definitely do the Olympic this summer. Thx for the t-shirt link. why the heck do they put the slogan on the front??

I have the Today Show on in the background & they just did a piece on a blind girl who is on the track team at her high school! All of her teammates help during workouts & races to act as her guide. It's extremely cool. What a great experience for all of them!

Last night I went for a bike ride w/my cycling group. I only rode w/them once last year, so it was nice to be back. There were just 4 of us, which actually makes riding together easier anyway. Got in 26 miles, and it really helped loosen up my legs. A gorgeous evening! We all agreed it doesn't need to get any warmer than 70 for the rest of the year :-)

And, yes....DH & I did polish off the rest of those Rice Krispie treats! After the salmon/tomato/orange pizza we made

Weights this AM and an easy 2 mile run. I did some of the ankle exercises yesterday, but I also did a long run. Then of course there were the weights this AM. Not sure what to blame, but my L ankle was hurting during the night last night. I did some ankle rotations while I was laying there, and it went away. It was only a little bothersome on my run, but now it's just generally achy. Hmmm.

Les, the benefits of indoor vs. outdoor are often a consideration for me when deciding a workout for the day. Hope you can get outside soon before it starts getting too warm.

Cool story about the HS track runner, Susan. Thanks for sharing!

Vicci, I am sure it has to be frustrating to be sidelined. Are you checking in with your MD anytime soon? I know the allergies around here have been really bad this year, so I wonder if that is making it harder for you to recover? Hang in there!!

Way to go, Robyn!! That has got to be a confidence booster. (P.S. Ibuprofen is great stuff! ;) )

TKay
05-05-2009, 11:34 AM
I love the t-shirts. I agree, Susan, putting that slogan on the front sort of blows the joke. The t-shirt you mentioned, Vicci, is hilarious too.

KathyB - Maybe the ankle issue is related to you starting the exercises and nothing more. I hope so. Good job on staying consistent.

Susan - That is really cool about the blind runner. What a great life experience for all involved. Glad the ride was enjoyable (and the weather lovely).

Les - Happy Cinqo de Mayo! Old Towne's a bit too far for me to go for a margarita. If you're ever out this direction, I'd make the trip to meet you for one though.

Robyn - Congrats on the mile-long swim! That is so great. How did you feel while you were swimming? And how are your shoulders today?

Vicci - You poor thing. I guess you are getting some good decluttering and organizing done at least. Hang in there. Maybe it's a comfort to know that when you do get back to running, you'll be returning to a tidy home. ;)

Ended up subbing a TM run for a bike ride with the family yesterday. Time just got away from me. Heading to the TM today.

Happy trials--er, trails--everyone!

Hey all, I'm not going to go through individuals this post because, well, I'm flippin' exhausted. The swim felt good but tough at the end. Shoulders actually feel fine today, no pain/soreness whatsoever. What is bad is that apparently it exhausted my energy reserves because I feel like I need toothpicks to prop open my eyelids today and I got plenty of sleep (7.5 hours which is normal). I seriously can not function today. So, I'm calling an emergency rest day and switching around my workouts for the week cause if I tried to go run right now I'd likely get myself run over due to not paying attention. I don't feel at all sick, just exhausted.:rolleyes:

Oh my, you guys have been busy! I don't have much time to post tonight, but wanted to fill you in on my most recent runs.

Last Thursday, I went for a trail run. I was really happy with the distance, even though it was a struggle right from the get go. Here are the details:

Distance: 9.32 km (5.79 miles)
Time: 1:00:16
Pace: 6:27 min/km (10:24 min/mile)
Calories: 594

Tonight I wasn't feeling up to going for a long run (was actually leaning more towards vegging on the couch), but I talked myself into getting out there and just doing a short run. I ended up adding a little extra and was really glad that I sucked it up. Here is my run data:

Distance: 5.67 km (3.52 miles)
Time: 34:26
Pace: 6:04 min/km (9:46 min/mile)
Calories: 361 calories

Way to go to all of you runners out there! I'll be back to chat when I have some more time. Have a good week!

Robyn - I was chuckling a bit reading your description of the utter fatigue you were feeling after your swim. Years ago, I worked out with a trainer. I used to feel that way afterwards. I'd just want to lay down and sleep mid-day (not that I don't feel that most days, but you know what I mean ;)). Have you recovered?

Oceanjasper - Great job getting yourself out there even when you didn't feel like it. I know I've said it before, but I love reading the details of your runs. I track my workouts on the TM. I don't know why I enjoy it, but I do.

Susan - Nice going on that six-miler. I guess there's no surprise in your legs being tired after how far they've been carrying you lately.

Got in a TM run and pooch bike ride yesterday, a weight walk today. I am slowly working my way back to consistency. Have a good one, everybody.

Fly-by... Last night was two days, two 30 minute spins. Great for the body and spirit. Days and projects keep falling by the wayside - time will tell how well things progress into the weekend. Hopefully I'll spin tomorrow (taking tonight off for good reasons) and ride on Friday after school then run on Saturday. One can only hope.

Happy trails, :)

4 miles for me today plus a 1/2 mile walk to cool down. I didn't intend to go that long, and I didn't realize I had until I mapped it afterwards. Probably better take an easy day tomorrow. Not a rest day, though, since I work on Friday.

A quick one to say that life may be getting back to normal at last. As I did my stretching and yoga this morning, I realized that I can now take deep breaths, exhale, and repeat without a coughing attack.

Of course, I was thrilled and during the course of the day spent a couple of hours weeding, trimming branches, transplanting "volunteer" spirea and coneflowers, and scooping algae out of the fish pond. And no, so far so good, I feel none the worse tonight. :D I also walked 1.5 miles (Spooky joined me for a while, but pooped out about 1/3 of the way so I had to carry him back...)

I am pretty tired now, though, so I'll check back in at my next "milestone" which I hope, hope, hope to be on Friday.

A (slow, while walking) wave to you all! :)

Vicci that's wonderful! I'm so happy for you. Continued good wishes for recovery!

Kathy that's great that you got lost in your run!

Tkay nice job working your way back!

Hi Les and Susan! Nat hope you're well!

I did an hour of strength and ab work this evening followed by some work with a foam roller which felt very good. Running at lunch tomorrow since I have a friend coming in from Ontario who I'll be meeting for dinner. Final ski weekend is fast approaching. I honestly don't expect to do a whole lot of skiing, more socializing but it will be the end to a very good season. Honestly I'm not all that sad about the end of the season, too many exciting things to come this summer.

Hi All!

I'm having a horrible time keeping up with everything.. Very active thread this week (or maybe I'm just extra busy). Anyway, wanted to report on my runs. I'm back up to 30 min straight and will be hanging with that for a while.. though I'd like to start doing some track workouts soon. I'm signed up for a 5k on May 30th and will continue to do 5k's through the summer (too hot down here for much else). Not sure what my fall goal will be... In between school & football season I might have to stick with 5-10k's. Fine by me as 10k is one of my favorite distances to race.

Okay, off to a massage and then errands!

Take care.

I was just heading out the door for a regular work meeting, when I suddenly remembered an email last week saying it was cancelled. YEA! Glad I thought of it before I drove all the way down there....

In the rush to get my workout in before the meeting, I did yoga pretty early, then a quick run to the CC for weights. I was tempted to skip the abs machine, but I was good. :D That's it for me today unless I walk the dogs....this is my easy day.

Carrie, so you have a 5K coming right up? With your 30 min runs, you should be in good shape. I definitely adjust my goals depending on the rest of life....I am looking forward to June when a few big things will be off the table! DD and I are skipping the Mother's Day run this year. :( Just too much other stuff right now.

Robyn, enjoy your final runs down the slopes. Hard to imagine people are still skiing in MAY!

Vicci, so glad to hear you are feeling better. Don't go crazy now....better to ease back into things. We were out doing yardwork last night, too. Beautiful evening for it!

Well, I am off to take advantage of these unexpected two free hours! Have a good one, all!

Quick check-in for me. Had an early TM run this morning so I could meet a friend for coffee, something I don't do often. No work on the desk, so I'm out and about.

Robyn - Sorry about the end of the season, but it's great that you are looking forward to summer anyway.

Vicci - SO glad you are feeling better.

Carrie - I've been thinking I need a race to motivate me (and keep me consistent). Thanks for the reminder. 30 minutes straight is fantastic!

KathyB - Unexpected free time--yeah! Sounds like you got in a good workout despite this being a light day for you.

Happy Thursday to all the runners I missed.

Carrie I can't imagine running in the kind of heat you get so kudos to you for racing anything!

Kathy hooray on the extra time from no meeting!

Tkay I find my scheduled races to be huge motivators.

I did a run at lunch today, almost 3.5 miles. I'm finding though that lunch doesn't give me enough time to get most of my scheduled runs in since I'm slow as a snail still but it'll come. Thankfully we have a shower in the office so I can clean up after the run and eat at my desk. It was in the upper 70s for my run, warmest yet this year and my body definitely told me about it but I'm sure I'll adjust with time.

On another note, I finally got results back from a medical test I had last week. Nothing serious but I'll need to have a minor outpatient surgery. They tried to schedule it for mid-June but I asked if that would interfere with my race on June 28th so they rescheduled for July 6th. Unfortunately it looks like I may be out of commission for up to 3 weeks afterward.:eek: I'm seriously not happy about that as it may do me in for the olympic distance tri in August but I guess I should be counting my blessings that the results of the testing weren't worse.
