Hello? where's everyone?Hope everyone is OK.
I had to take saturday off because of my laser procedure on friday, so did major garden stuff. ended up working way harder and longer than intended cause the weather was supposed to be crummy sunday, but turned out decent so we did a hike/snowshoe, nothing too tough, about 4 hours. Monday I did cardio, bike, treadmill, and elliptical for 1 hr 15. tuesday I had my yoga class, then this afternoon I did STS #3 for the last time for a while and then ran 25 minutes on the treadmill. I hope to do STS #4 either tomorrow or thursday. not sure on weather yet, and if it's nice we'd bike instead. the other exciting thing we have planned is a long overdue trip to the landfill... how exciting, huh?
Hi Valerie! I was just going to post on last week's thread, so I'm glad you started a new one. Sounds like you have been getting in great workouts. And I think gardening is hard work! We are doing a garden this year and the girls are so excited, so it will be fun to have the whole family digging in there.
This week I stumbled upon the kettlebell DVD that I had been searching for for awhile and then gave up. Well, of course, it suddenly reappeared. So, after I did cardio today and then did that DVD. It is led by Gin Miller and I really like it. It interspersed cardio with the ball stuff, and since I had already done cardio I just did the ball exercises. It was a good workout and I really felt it in my core.
Today, on a whim, I registered for a race in July. It's during our Arts Festival. They have a 5K and a 10K and I registered for the 5K. I love to walk fast, but am not a runner, so I figured this will be a kick in the butt to become one. ;) DH wants to join me, which is great, as long as we can unload the girls on someone at 7:30 that morning!
Hope everyone is having a great week!

Hi Valerie & Sue!!!
Well, a weekend trip to Austin and I'm slow to get back into the swing of things! My knee is still bothering me so I'm going to the dr this morning. I did do Chest & Back this morning and will decide what to do tomorrow after I see the dr.
Sue, glad your found your kettlebell DVD! I like Gin -- we still have step reebok after all these years. Even bought it on DVD. That's great that you're going to run a 5K! Have you ran one before? I'm not a runner, either, but I have been running once a week with a cardio coach MP3 workout. The workouts keep me focused on things other than the minutes...okay, seconds. I'm running 3 -4 miles with them which is something I'd rarely done on my own.
Hmmm, Valerie. A trip to the landfill has just never made my top ten list! The bike ride sounds much better. Glad to hear you're moving on with STS - you're ready!!!

Funny I saw a woman buying kettlebells at target yesterday.
Monday I did Cathes Power Hour and went on the elliptical for 45 minutes.
Yesterday I only did 1/2 hour of a Sharon Mann cardio video.
Today I'm going to run on the treadmill for 45 min, do Cathe's power hour sans abs and do her Core Max instead.
That's the plan anyway. :)

Woo hoo - way to go Sue :) I'm hoping to get up for Arts Fest this year!!!
Valerie - landfill??? Yea on the gardening!!
Stacy - hope the knee is feeling better!
Kristi - Wow - Monday was quite a workout!
I'm slugging. The weather here has put the kybosh on just about everything!!! We run around to try to get to practices only to have it pour 15 mins later - then we run around to pick everyone up!
So... I've done an old BSS with Stephanie - the fannylifter! on Tuesday - planned to walk but rained out. Did abs and pushups yesterday plus about an hour of digging out thistles in the back bed!! I HATE THISTLES!!!! nasty things.

Yesterday ended up being a landfill day. we had all kinds of old metal fencing that was rolled up and getting overtaken by blackberries and nettle. we dragged it all out, into the truck and were pleasantly surprised it was all recycleable as scrap metal. we have an outstanding recycle program here and it makes me feel good that much of what was once pitched now can be broken down and reused. so my workout wasn't much. someone started a thread a while ago on "decrapifying" their home and that's what we're doing. did a big chunk of the basement ( ohhh... the horror!) with more to go.
my STS #3.. I pushed the weights tuesday and wowee, I am sore. still should be able do #4 today as long as my legs catch a break. Got to get DH's breakfast & lunch going, so more in a while,

A great workout, KristiB. a nice combination of things. I'm a real advocate of mixing it up rather than just doingn the same activity for a long time. makes time pass faster and helps avoid over use injuries.
charisse, I agree with you on thistles. nasty! the only things worse are blackberries....thorny but much bigger and longer, and they get caught on everything, plus their extensive roots makes itdarn near impossible to dig them out. a good day in the garden can be a decent workout.
Stacy, it rained most of the day so the bike ride idea got shelved and we "did the landfill "instead... not equivalent but some days we get housekeeping done so we're free to do fun things on the sunny days. Hope the doc doesn't find anything but maybe a strain that needs a few more days to recover. I did the entire #3 disk, including the bonus burn at the end and I am burning today. I print a worksheet and record what weight I used and whether it was adequate. I've done sts #3three times so I upped the weight on many, some for the third time. I'm a real wimp about doing a new exercise the first time with anything heavy.
Sue, congrats on finding thettleball DVD. Im famous for putting the disk in the wrong box and ending up on an endless search. Gardening can be quite the workout... I've done a lot this year and last saturday it was more work than a regular workout day, with all the shoveling and hauling.
when I joined this thread it was starting a new thread each week by whoever showed up first. Do we want to continue or let the threads go on longer? I don't feel strongly either way. we could have more continuity if we stayed with a given thread longer but it is nice to start fresh each week. what do you all think?

Sounds like we're all staying busy!!
Kristie -- You've been working hard! I really like that Power Hour is a full body workout with abs yet it's still an hour. I did Coremax today, too! #3 with the medicine ball. I'm not familiar with Sharon Mann. Do you like her?
Valerie -- Yea to cleaning out the clutter! I'm trying not to hold on to things that I will just toss six months later. We cancelled our newpaper subscription yesterday. While I'm sad for the newpaper (soft spot for journalism), I'm glad we won't have to recycle all that paper anymore. I recently read that if you recycle your Sunday paper, you can save 4 trees/year. What about a daily paper???????
The STS leg workouts have been funny for me....I've been sore after each and every one but where I'm sore changes with each workout. You can really "feel" the results of the changing exercises.
Charisse -- We've had lots of rain, too. We need it so I'm not complaining but it's hard when games start getting cancelled, too. Rescheduling just makes jammed packed weeks even busier!!
Saw the Dr yesterday and we're going to schedule an MRI to see what's up with my knee. Ligaments are fine and he thinks the meniscus is fine, too. There's fluid on it and he said the cartilage could be imflamed. In the meantime, no step or kickboxing. So, today I did abs and stretchmax.

Got in two workouts so far this week. Still dealing with kids' schedules & all that, but so far so good on meeting DH at 5:00 (great time for him, sorry time for me but I get a trainer out of it :D). Did legs & triceps yesterday; chest & shoulders Monday. Hoping for that third workout this week, but have had a major schedule glitch for today & Fri so we'll see. Sat? But Sat's already busy . . . :)
I just had a 14-pound fuzzy cat jump on my lap. Does supporting her count for something? ;) Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Will try to get a consistent cardio time in the schedule. For me, consistent would be 1x/week :o but I want at least 3x/week cardio plus 3x/week weights with DH. Still fighting the busybusybusy thing, but so are all of you and you've been able to do it!
I like a weekly thread, BTW. It's kind of a fresh start. Haven't always had time to post, but it's nice to have the "gang" all here on Mondays, ready to sweat for 7 more days. :p
Happy working out, gardening, landfill-ing, etc.!

I DVR Sharon Mann on FitTV. I think it's called In Shape with Sharon Mann.
I like her show for an AM workout. It's 1/2 hour and I feel like I've done something. I did a Hi-Lo one of hers this morning hat had some fancy arm and foot moves. It made me realize I can do fancy arm woirk. And I can do fancy footwork. Just not at the same time :o
When I checked the mirror I looked like I was being attacked by a swarm of invisible bees.
As an instructor she's good. Energetic. And she packs a punch in that short workout.

Kristi, you crack me up!!! But I so know what you mean. I workout in our bedroom and sometimes glance in the mirror. I usually think.....oh, no, don't do THAT!!! I'll have to check out Sharon Mann. We don't have pay TV so I usually hear about instructors by word of mouth.
TK -- I think lap kitties count as core work, right??? You know, brace yourself....she's gonna land!!! We have two kitties, too. Good job getting in two strength workouts so far this week! Do what you can to get your cardio. I find I have to do it first thing in the morning, otherwise it just won't happen.
Valerie -- I think we were posting at the same time yesterday! Glad you're feeling the results of your leg workout. There were several moves (paper plates, wall squats) that I didn't use weight on for quite some time. I do use some weight now but it's not alot.
I'd like to see if we can keep a weekly thread going, too. There's just something refreshing about starting anew - especially if the week before was less than stellar. But really, it's all good so if a running thread works best for the majority, that's okay for me, too.
The dr said I could run (surprise!) so I Cardio Coach #2 this morning. I'm so happy to have some endorphins running around!!! They were sorely missed! Running isn't my favorite cardio but if it's all I can do for a while, I'll take it!
Happy Friday, all!!!

Stacy, I used light weights on the paper plate moves this time and it was Ok. I can't remember, maybe 8's? I wrote it down. I thought it made balancing easier than without any. probably not true with heavier weights.
wall squats... yipes. I can't go that low and get back up so I go as low as I can, then back to parallel, holding the weights instead of setting them down.
I started doing #4 yesterday but got interrupted and couldn't finish. will do the rest today. Hope you enjoy your run, and that your knees get better soon.
You gotta be tough to have a mirror in your exercise room! just the reflection off the TV screen is enough!
FWIW, Sharon Mann annoys me. I used to watch Fit TV and it was a toss up who I disliked more, Sharon or the dark haired guy. I can't remember his name and want to call him Emeril but I know that's not right. I think you could get a good workout from Sharon but she is terminally energetic and bouncy and I cannot watch her.... but that's me.
Work hard everyone, and see you all next week.

Hey ladies - I haven't been spending nearly as much time on the boards lately, but I haven't forgotten about this thread :) I have been sticking it my regular work out schedule, and getting at least 4 hard days in with a couple light days thrown in when I have time. I had to drop out of my ballet class to save extra money due to being unemployed/see the next paragraph ;)
I am currently planning a trip to Barcelona and contemplating how I will keep up my work out schedule overseas. I know I can give myself a break while on vacation, but I think I will like being able to go for a jog in Spain, ya know? :)

OOhhh, Spain! Josie, how fabulous! My DH says that Barcelona is one of the most beautiful citites that he's visited. Jogging in Spain sounds great and I'm sure you'll get in lots of walking. You know, Cathe is creating a travel workout but it probably won't be released in time for you (from her website):
Travel Fit - A total body band workout designed to keep you fit anytime you are on the road or just wanting to enjoy the workout for the benefits it provides. If you think this workout is easy, think again. The only easy thing about this workout is the fact that you simply need a resistance band to do it. Rest assured that the best of the best "band burners" will be put together, all in one workout, to make this one of the toughest total body workouts you have ever experienced. Just think of it as one big "Bonus Burn", wink!
Valerie -- You and I are doing the paper plates and wall squats the same way! I had the same thoughts about balance, too. I think I did 10 lbs on the plates the last time but probably won't go any higher. Thanks for your thoughts on Sharon Mann -- all info is good!
