View Full Version : Thoughts on "filler" birthday gifts for husband

I am giving my husband a new (much needed) golf bag for his upcoming birthday.

There are lots of pockets, and the gift would seem unadorned if I didn't fill those pockets! He has most everything he needs for golf, so I was thinking of other items I could place in those pockets (Hershey's kisses, a free razor that came in the mail, etc.)

I went over budget on the bag as it is, so I'm trying to think of UNDER $5 items I could place in the pockets. Any thoughts? What kind of little surprises would you use?:p

How about some "coupons" for special dinners, etc. sally

Are you sure? Seems my DH can never have enough balls or tees. You might throw in a cup of tees and/or a sleeve of balls, maybe some nice ones that he wouldn't normally buy for himself. Maybe even a gift certificate for a bucket of balls at the driving range.

As for the chocolate/candy idea, what about a chocolate shop that makes golf-related items? We have a chocolate shop in town that makes chocolate golf-balls, chocolate tees, and other miscellaneous confections related to a golf theme.

A few years ago, I made up my own for an extra Christmas gift. Some were rather "suggestive", others were as simple as letting him pick the movie. The more suggestive ones were the most popular. I made a couple for each month, that way he wouldn't try to redeem them all at once. LOL!;)

I don't have too much else to add, but since buying the cottage at the lake, we are on a VERY tight budget. So... when it comes to gifts these days we are very inventive!

Do you sew? How about making some golf club covers with scraps of material or even old wool socks ( jazz them up a bit ).

My DH loves arrowroot cookies but usually they are a bit of a "splurge" item, so last valentines day I bought the large box and wrapped it up artistically. He couldn'nt have been any happier if it had been a Gucci watch!!

Also he has a favorite brand of import beer, but at 13$ a 6-pack.........so that was his birthday gift!!

Obviously we're not very hard to please!!!

I just starting my Christmas present gathering and one idea I had seen for hanypersons was a nail holding thing. You take a soft mouse pad (one of the giveaways) and cut out a spoon (fatter than a real spoon, about 1" at the smaller end) shape, about four to five inches long. The nail can go through the holder, and the person holds the holder instead of the nail. Also, if the nail is going into a finish item, you can use the holder to hold the nail set right onto of the nail. I got this idea from Family Handyman magazine. I made one for each of the three men in my family.
