I'll get this week going.....
Did STS disk 11 on friday but need to go back and do #9. We did another serious hike this weekend. I can't do a leg workout right before or after a significant hike. Legs get too tired and sore... I need a rest day in between. so sunday we did significant garden work... counts as a rest day, and today I'll do #9 and have monday and tuesday to rest before hiking wed. at least that's the plan...
I'm finally losing some weight. I've been tight on my diet and exercising consistently including STS but the big thing is adding a cup of real coffee back into my morning routine. I've been decaffeinated for a couple years and it really gets me up and moving with increased calorie burn. I am happy to see the scale needle going downward.
Hope everyone had a great weekend. Charisse, hope the relay went well... and that you have recovered... AND generated significant dollars for the cause. and that your son is recovering from his crash and burn episode.
Alysha, congrats on maintaining the 1.25 mileage and good luck adding in the weights this week. Don't overdo it and get too sore to run. phase in gradually.
SueK, hope you Mom did well after surgery and that you were able to get in your workouts while taking care of her.
Stacy.. you're supposed to have a slacker week after completing STS! That way you'll feel energized and ready to rip into a new routine.

Hi, Valerie!! Congrats on the weight loss!!!! That's great. You've been working hard - you deserve it. I never would have though that coffee would do it but hey, if it works, I'd take it.
I started Cathe's June rotation today. She's mixed some of the STS workouts with her other workouts. Interesting rotation. So, the first day -- STS #1. How humbling!!! All those push ups. How quickly I forget. I did increase all of my weights by a couple of pounds or more so that's good. But it's certainly not easier the second time around!!
Okay -- DS is looking over my shoulder and wants to see the green smilie face so here it is......:D:D:D

Stuck to plan did #9 with the leg blast at the end, and my butt is pretty sore. Legs are good but glutes are NOT happy. extra floor moves (with ankle weights) are worse than all the squats and lunges. disk 12 looms (legs) before going to the cycle 2. I'll repeat disk 10 & 11 before moving on.
I can't do another leg routine today, wed we hike, and thursday.... maybe.... depending on how my legs feel. It's hard to schedule legs now that hiking season is here. You would think there'd be more training overlap, where doing one activity trained you for the other.
Stacy, coffee gets me up/moving sooner with more purpose. I drank coffee for 40 years before going decaf. thought it was "healthier." Too much coffee is troublesome, but too little isn't good either.
Yeah, pushups are tough! my technique has improved... I get better range of motion and I don't get ( very) sore. I'll redo #10. the thing I've learned is my lower body gets monumentally more sore than my upper body, the complete opposite of what I expected or what logic would indicate considering my usual activities.

My lower body gets more sore, too. Or maybe that it's a sore I don't enjoy? The leg work is just harder for me. Yesterday I ran instead of STS #3 legs. Still not supposed to do leg workouts. I did order Squeeze Stonger to try. I've read the lower body workout doesn't have any lunges -- hoping it's knee friendly! This morning I did STS #2 Back & Triceps. Fun stuff! DH gets home this afternoon - yea!!!

I certainly can't match your routines! But I did actually run/cross-country ski and jog in the lake, yesterday! Aerobics is down this week, because the instructor is on vacation, but next week I'll be back to that 2X a week, and still will run in the lake at least 2 other days! I'll be going from 30 minutes to an hour by the end of summer!

Kay, good to hear from you! What a neat idea!! I'll bet it's quite a workout, too. My Dad lives on the lake and just loves it. He sits out every morning and reads the paper with his coffee. I'm so jealous!

A friend burned(shhh) P90X Plus for me so I've been trying those.
The workouts are really tough which I don't mind. I do what I can.
But I really don't like Tony as an instructor. I think maybe once I get used to the workouts I'll put him on mute and play my own music. :D
Actually I'm going to shelve these till after my cruise when I can do the 90 day program as it's intended.

I'm so jealous! It's a great workout, and zero impact, which my back likes! I just love looking at the lake, but it's chillier and raining today, so no workout.:( Hopefully, tomorrow!

hey Charisse ..how did the relay go? hope you made much money AND had a good time doing it.
I was sick on tuesday so went to yoga but that was it. Wed it was too hot to hike so we did our regular 30 mile bike ride. that was good, record time for us because there's less foot traffic on weekdays and it's not necessary to slow down around walkers so many times. Still have street crossings and gates to negotiate so that's about as good a time as I think we'll manage.
Today, not sure. we're having a heat wave... don't laugh... it's been mid 80's to 90 today. Quite hot for here, and really too hot for me... I don't do well at all in what is considered (here anyway) to be significant heat. Really, news is giving heat indexes and warning about exertion and pets, etc. I'll work out in the basement if it's cool enough. I KNOW you're all laughing now.... and we even have air conditioning because for the few days a year it's "blazingly hot" , it's worth it!
I'm gone for half of next week, so someone else please start the thread.

Hello ladies. Finally checking in.
Valerie - Congrats on the weight loss. And too funny about adding caffeine in - usually you hear just the opposite. I only drink tea and it's probably only psychological, but I have to have it.
Oh, and don't worry - I've been doing weights for a long time now - just not much lately - and I'm pretty good at not pushing it too far. But check with me tomorrow and see what I say! ;)
Stacy - Too funny about DS and the smilies. Here's one for him. :D
Hi Kay and Kristi!
Charisse - Tomorrow - the first day the three of us are off is going to be crazy - boo! Enjoy your first day of summer!
So today I had a great day of exercise but partly because I had to stuff it all in because I'm not sure what - if anything - I'll have time for tomorrow.
I finally used my new Cathe DVD - the Slow & Heavy one - and the planks she did kicked my butt - or arms or core or whatever. So I may well be quite sore in some strange places tomorrow because I'm not used to those!
I also got my second of three runs in for the week and then took the dog for a 1.5 mile walk. I'm beat. My run was much better today because I ran at about a 11:30 pace instead of a 10:30 pace and was able to control my breathing better and felt like I could run longer and that reaching the 5k was doable. So, I think I've just been running to fast for my fitness level. Right now my focus is entirely on running 5k, not at all on speed - that can come later.
Anyway, I need to get one more run in on Saturday and will up it to 1.5 miles. I did 1.5 today, but rested for 1/8 mile after I got to my 1.25 goal.
Now I just need to do weights at least 2 times a week - preferably three and I'll be in a good routine!

Ugh - dealing with a summer cold - coughing, stuff running down my throat - tired!! Not sure I'm going to be able to do anything today (and it's pouring out) I may try to start new on Sunday - give me time to rest up.
Valerie - our school's team made about $4,000 and the Carlisle area raised over $170,000 last weekend. The weather was wonderful (for once - it has always rained over the past 5 years) and we had a great time.
My goal will be to start the thread ;)
Everyone have a GREAT weekend!!!

Didn't think I'd have time to get this in today but I did... got in disk 12 so done with meso cycle 1! whoopee! we're taking off for a few days to hike, bike and backpack.... so that's my active recovery week. Stacy, I ordered Cathe's weighted gloves and used them today for the first time. it's a nice way to add in a couple pounds to bridge those 5 pound weight increments.
charisse.. so sorry to hear you got sick. that is such a bummer during the summer, somehow it always seems all wrong! Hope you get better quickly.
Great work alysha. all I worry about is going for specified time or distance. I'm not fast so speed isn't worth worrying about. I'm fairly new to weight training and have learned the hard way that I can get sore in some unexpected places, for a looong time so I'm a bit cautious. Cathe really does like planks, doesn't she!
I used to drink coffee, caffeinated soda.. never much tea though... but a couple years ago DH had to quit caffeine because of migraines. so I quit too. it's easier to have one kind of beverage around. I've been having issues with my heart rate being too low so I'm putting a little caffeine back into the mix and cutting back on my cardio to see if I can get my rate up.
Kay, good to hear you have another option besides the pool that seems to be unavailable too much of the time. Even if it's seasonal, more options are better than fewer.
Kristi... it sure is true that an instructor can make or break it the deal. some people are annoying or not motivating. impossible to tell until you've spent an hour or two with them. I've heard that's a tough workout. let us know if it's worth it.
