Jori - How scary! I am glad that everyone is OK.

I had my apointment today. No protein in my urine this time, NST was good but blood pressure is still up. Plan is to induce this weekend and she wrote me a note to stay out of work until then. I am 2cm dilated so I am hoping that maybe I'll hit 3 by the weekend.

David was going to come with me, then didn't, saying any date I picked was fine. So I picked Sunday thinking 'maybe it'll give me more time to go on my own'. Then he reminds me that if I have the baby Sunday, I get discharged on Tuesday and they are repaving our road (it is a private road) on Tuesday, which means no cars on it. which means I'd have to walk 1/4 to get to our house from where they arranged for us to paark. Not good planning on my part. Trying to see if I can swich it to Saturday.

Just a quick fly-by post-

I finally had Kyle Everett at 11:10pm last night! Went in on Sunday evening at 7:30, started pitocin at 5:30 am, and spent the day waiting for things to work right. I was still at 5cm at 9pm, and the OB mentioned a c-section, but thankfully that plus letting the epidural wear down a few notches motivated my body into gear, so he came out the old-fashioned way!

Hope everyone is doing well - I'm looking forward to heading home to see my boys!

Congratulations, Nancy!

I had my 20 week appt. today, and my doctor wrote on my chart and on the referral form for my ultra-sound "excessive maternal weight gain.":rolleyes: I'm torn between being amused and feeling insulted! I've gained 20 lbs. so far, and he keeps reminding me that I'm not pregnant with twins this time. Up until about 3 weeks ago I was starving all of the time, so I ate all the time! Oh well. It's a good thing I really like my doctor!

Happy birthday, Nancy and Kyle!

Jori, what a scary experience. I imagine your heart was in your throat while the doc tried to find the heartbeat. What a relief that you are all okay. I hope the drunk driver stopped, so that s/he couldn't hit someone else (and so you could get the insurance info). How are you feeling? Hopefully you don't have any delayed pains or any whiplash.

Maria, were you able to change your birth day to Saturday? Good thing Dave remembered that detail about the pavers!

Sugarbaby, I'm glad you have a good sense of humor about his comment. Sounds like he's very cautious. I'm so sensitive about this weight gain (which is silly), but my doc is very relaxed about it. I'm almost 25 weeks, and I've gained 21 pounds. I was a bit freaked. He was not.

OB said today that the results of the U/S were great -- everything looks normal. Based on the measurements, the U/S report suggests a due date of 9/16 (it was changed to 9/20 after my 10 week U/S). Next appt is in 5 weeks (we're on vacation the normal week); glucose test and rhogam shot. I can't believe how fast this pregancy is going compared to last time!

Congratulations Nancy! And welcome to the world Kyle.

Jori, I cannot believe that happened to you. I could not even imagine the terror of it all. I am happy that everything turned out ok.

Bawstinn, did you change the date to Saturday. Good luck!!!!!

Alleycat, I know what you mean about it going fast. I just cannot believe that I am already 24 weeks!! It is going by so fast....too fast in my opinion.

Congratulations Nancy! Can't wait to see pictures of Kyle!

Maria - hope everything goes smoothly this weekend and looking forward to the update. Funny how closely together the kids' birthdays will be - happy birthday to Madeleine.

Alleycat - so glad the ultrasound went well.

Sugarbaby - I always think it's funny to see what they put on the paperwork. I recall seeing "advanced maternal age" on every piece of paperwork I had with my last pregnancy. Like anyone needed to be reminded. I've also gained more, more rapidly this time, but I think I'm finally slowing down.

Thank you all for the kind words about our accident. The saga has continued as I have had a lot of delayed back and side pain. I saw my PCP on Tuesday, who recommended bloodwork because of concerns about a ruptured spleen and/or kidney injury, and the bloodwork suggested a "possibility" of internal bleeding, so back to the ER we went. We didn't want them to do a CAT scan because of risk to the baby, so we settled on an ultrasound, which showed that the spleen and kidneys appeared to be fine. At 2:00 that morning (5 hours after getting to the ER) they said that they couldn't give me an "all clear" with confidence because of not having a CAT scan, but that it appeared to be nothing acutely life-threatening to me or the baby. Most likely muscular/rib/bruising to the spleen or kidney. Incredibly painful, but starting to feel a bit better. And of course all I can take is Tylenol, which doesn't really help much. They did a really nice workup on the baby, who looked great, and he's thankfully moving around a lot, which is really reassuring. They also totaled our car (which I think is unusual) and when my husband went back to get our things out of the car, he saw that the car looked pretty awful and we're just thankful that we walked away and that our kids are fine. We could so easily have been a story on the 11:00 news "Family of 4 killed by drunk driver". They did arrest the guy for a DUI, although I'm sure he wasn't in long.

All in all a very difficult week, but feeling incredibly grateful. I'm also just amazed at how Macy seems unfazed. The EMTs were fantastic with her - and I somehow managed to remain completely calm with her throughout, which I'm very proud of myself for, as I tend to be an anxious and emotional person. But it really is incredible that she wasn't traumatized by the accident, the car filling with smoke, seeing mom and dad carried into an ambulance on stretchers ...

I keep popping by to see an update from Maria!

Here's a pic of Kyle - he's adjusting really well to life on the outside. By using our arsenal of breastfeeding tricks, we've managed to get two nights in a row of 3.5 hour intervals through the night - I'm thrilled!! Honestly I'm having more issues with my 13 month old - he's got another canine breaking through, and he's a mighty cranky boy. On the plus side, when we came home from the hospital, he toddled 5 steps across the living room to me, and he's been practicing like mad!

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d829b3127ccec7040c6086f300000040O00CasWLZqxbMQ e3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/

Oh yes, if you're looking for clothes that truly fit an average size newborn, the preemie size from Gymboree fits beautifully (Gymboree clothes tend to be larger than average through all sizes). Even the hat fit well! It's nice to have a few outfits to fit right at the beginning.

I hope everyone is doing well!!

Nancy, Kyle is just beautiful. He looks so peaceful. I love to look at sleeping babies :) I'm trying to wrap my brain around you having a newborn AND a 13 month old!! I didn't realize you had two so close in age. Bless you -- you must be exhausted :)

Maria, where are you? Boy or girl!??!

Nothing exciting here. I guess that's a good thing when talking about a pregnancy, right? ;) I've been running through a mental list of all the things we need to do around the house to get ready, because we have to combine 2 rooms in order to get a room to be the nursery. I keep thinking we have plenty of time, and then I realize we only have 14 or 15 weeks. Then it doesn't seem like a lot of time (esp. since I don't plan on doing much work in August LOL).

Alleycat, not only do we have to same due date, but we are feeling the same way. I feel like I have a lot of time, but then I realize how fast it is going to go and how much we need to do before then. We are also combining two rooms into one. We haven't gotten much done except moving furniture around and making a bigger mess. My DH wants to paint and do stenciling. I have to hold back a laugh everytime he mentions it. We barely have time to make dinner with out 2 year old, let alone paint and decorate a room.

Nancy, Kyle is just beautiful! The first word that came to mind when I saw him was "smooth." He's just...smooth. Does that make any sense whatsoever?:p Congratulations!

I am FINALLY feeling the baby move and kick. It seems I felt punches and kicks a lot earlier with the boys - maybe because they had less room to move around. Or maybe this baby is just really mellow (fingers crossed). We find out the sex of the baby on Monday!!! We think it's a girl, but we also thought the boys were girls!

Hello!

Crazy week here - everytime I try to check in my 3 yr old suddenly needs me. ;)

Christopher Matthew arrived at 7:34PM on June 6 after a VERY boring day followed by an action packed 20 minutes. He weighed 8 pounds, 6.5 ounces and was 20 inches long. He was stuck for a while and arrived with a nice big bruise covering most of the front of is head but it is pretty much gone now.

When we got there at 7:30 AM, I was only 1 cm (according to that OB) so by the time they started pitocin it was 9. From 9-3 not much of anything happened but I finally got to 3cm. When I was still 3 cm at 6, they dialed the pitocin back for 1/2 hour then started to increase it. At 7 before the shift change, the doctor checked me and I have increased to 4 cm (yipee!) and was hoping a c would not be necessary.

About 15 minutes later I was in a lot of pain and was ticked that it appeared the epidural (got one earlier) was no longer working. Nurse checked me and yelled - baby is right there - don't push yet! Christopher must not have liked the mention of a c-section since he arrived less than 15 minutes later. Nurse told me later the epidural was working fine but when you go from 4-10 in 15 minutes you can't really expect it to work. ;)

He had a touch of jaundice - I was told it was related to the bruise on his head and the fact he was reabsorbing the blood - and we stayed a little later than normal on Monday. He is sleeping and nursing like a champ although his days and nights are a bit mixed up!

Here are a couple pictures - the surprising part is he is blond. You can't see much of the bruise because it really is under the hair. My brother is the only blond in either of our immediate families. At first I thought he was bald (Madeleine had a head of hair)!

Hi everyone, I have been completely out of touch. Between my hard drive crashing and parts mishaps my computer was out for a month. I also homeschool my daughter and my 16th month old is crazy busy. This all does seem to make my pregnancy go faster though.:D Half the time, I forget I even am pregnant.

We switched around the the kids rooms and have 2 cribs set up in the "nursery". Seriously, I thought I was going to hyperventilate.

I'm happy to hear about all the beautiful new babies around here!

We just got back from my ultra-sound appointment and we're having another boy!!! :D Just like with my twins, we were in shock, because we were so sure it was a girl! The boy "parts" said otherwise. he-he. We're really excited.

Here's an interesting tid-bit. During the u/s, the lady pulled up the boys' ultrasounds and said that my twins are identical - di-amniotic/mono-chorionic (2 sacs, 1 placenta, which almost always indicates identical twins). I could have sworn that my boys were fraternal - I thought that's what my doctor told me. It's what I've been telling everyone who asks!

Congratulations Maria, and welcome Christopher!

Blech. Had a message from the midwife saying I was "too sweet;" my 1-hour glucose tolerance test came back at 158 and the cutoff is 140 :(. So now they're going to schedule me for a 3-hour test. I hope I can go somewhere that's covered by my insurance that's NOT the regular lab - they are awful. I hadn't eaten since the night before and only had a sip of grapefruit juice that morning, so now I'm really worried. I did not have this with my first pregnancy.

I know there are others who had this - can you all weigh in, please? What else should I do besides watch my diet (which I haven't been doing as dilligently as the first time)?

Thanks...

I was surprised on this last pregnancy when I failed the 1 hour test by a little bit (similar to you) - the previous two had been fine. I did fine on the 3 hour test; you are very likely to be fine as well since you weren't crazy high over the limit.

I sure hope you can find somewhere other than the lab as well - three hours is a long time. Good luck, and don't do anything to your diet before you take the 3 hour - eat like you've been eating so you can get the closest result.

Back to babies - one is whining because of teething pain, and the other hasn't eaten in a whole two hours and surely will die of starvation in the next two minutes. :)

thanks for posting, Nancy. I now remember your test results.

I'm stuck with the lab. But a dear friend may come and stay with me a bit. And, supposedly, they have a room specifically for pregnant women, and all they needed as of last Friday was the furniture.

I'm not making any radical changes to my diet, other than watching my sweet treats intake (anything chocolate is my downfall. Ice cream tastes really good these days too. In fact, I'd just had a handful of chocolate covered pretzels when I picked up the midwife's voicemail message :o). I don't need those 'empty' calories, for sure.

Poor DH got the brunt of my frustration last night. I've been having intermittent ligament pain in my right inner thigh that makes it very hard to walk. Tomorrow morning I have an U/S that will review placenta placement. It had better be a good result!

/rant over. Back to your regularly scheduled happy PG thread :D

Hello Ladies,

It's been a long time since I've been on... First, congratulations to all the new moms from the last few months, and Nancy and Maria this month! Candace, I have thought about you a lot since I read your sad news, I know it has been a while, but from a stranger on the internet my very best wishes for you and your family.

As for my update, our baby boy Jacob was born on 5/5, 12 days early, and still weighed in at 7lb 14oz. At my OBGYN appointment the week before he measured quite a bit ahead, and they scheduled me for an ultrasound to check his size (and whether he could come out the natural way). I never made it to that appointment, my labor started with my water breaking (I actually heard it "pop" while peeing), and I ended up with a c-section since his head was too big to make it past my pelvic bone. Jacob had to spend a few days in the NICU due to breathing issues and some other concerns - it was a trip to hell and back - but he is fine now and we couldn't be happier with our little guy. Well, not so little anymore, he is chunking up big time, and according to my husband's inofficial weigh-in yesterday he has passed the 12 lb. mark...
And for those out there who may have to go down the path of the c-section: my recovery has been surprisingly smooth and easy, I know I am very lucky, but I was quite worried when the doctor decided that was the way to go, and it has turned out to be a non-issue other than the lifting limitations. Plus, the girl parts are still intact!
Good luck to the rest of you out there on this thread, I'll keep reading and have been very grateful for all the info. I will try to be a more active poster on the new mom threads (then again, it shouldn't be too hard for me to beat my 2, now 3 posts on the pregnancy threads...)

Congratulations Earlgrey! What a great picture of little Jacob sleeping!

And congratulations Sugarbaby - three sons! It's so nice to know what's coming, isn't it? I know not everyone feels that way, but it really helps to make it feel more real. For us, anyway.

Min - I'm so sorry you're having a rough time. Do vent away. I had a lot of ligament pain with my first pregnancy and it's really awful.

Nothing really new or exciting - which is just fine with us given the chaos of the last month.

I have my glucose test next month. I get to do the jelly belly test instead of the drink since I'm allergic to oranges and we had a tough time finding another flavor last time. Works for me! It's just so hard to believe that I'm inching close to the third trimester.

Congratulations Nancy, Maria, and Earlgrey!! What beautiful baby boys! Seeing your precious photos and reading about your experiences is making my "next-in-line" status seem more real.:D I hope you're all doing well and getting some rest.

I haven't checked in in a while b/c work has kept me insanely busy over the past two months. Thankfully my schedule has finally eased up, although I still have lots to do before maternity leave. I'm afraid all the stress and long work hours took a bit of a toll on my health, so I'm relieved the little one appears to be OK and I can allow myself more time to rest and take care of myself. I've been struggling again w/ gestational diabetes. I had it w/ DD1, but was able to control it much better then. I suppose aging two more years and a less restful lifestyle w/ a toddler have made my body revolt. No matter what I've tried, I've been unable to get my morning fasting # within range, so the dr. finally put me on glyburide. It's so frustrating to have to resort to meds, but it seems to be working now that they've increased the dosage. As a result of going on meds, I have weekly non-stress tests, OB appts., and ultrasounds at the hospital to check the baby's size and bio-physical profile, along with diabetes counselor appts. and a perinatologist appt. next week. Fortunately a minor kidney issue they'd been monitoring since the 20-week US resolved itself, so that's a relief. I'm trying to not be alarmed by all this monitoring and am very anxious to hear what the perinatologist has to say next week. So far DD2 has passed the tests with flying colors. She's still breech at 34 weeks, so I'm a bit worried about that too. It's always something!

So sorry to make this a gripe fest, everyone! I hope you're all doing well and surviving the heat. Enjoy a few milkshakes for me....They're all I seem to think about these days!:o
