I accidentally spilled bleach into the bathtub this am. (undiluted) I don't know if it touched some "rust" as we have an old bath tub
or what "reaction" happened but I ended up with terrible stains.
I tried Soft Scrub, Comet, (rinsing in between all products) Then I tried Coke, White Vinegar, Bar Keeper's Friend, and even Lemon Juice. Then I tried CLR, more Bar Keeper's Friend and more Coke. These seemed to at least fade the stain. In the end I remembered I had some "Oxi-Clean". Well I filled the tub with very hot water and added the Oxi-Clean. It was a miracle!!!!!!!
I never thought I'd get such a work out trying to clean a stain from a tub.
I did however manage to get to a farmer's market today and got some homemade pesto made with sheep cheese, oil, walnuts and basil. Not light, but wonderful!!!!!!
Thanks for letting me rant!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. I type this as I sip on a Diet Coke. Scary!
Jazzcat- it's good to know that at least some of the stuff they advertise on infomercials actually work! :) I see that Oxi-Clean commercial constantly!

jazzcat, so you use Oxi-Clean?! I've always wondered about that. I am WAY skeptical about anything I see advertised on an infomercial, but it HAS always looked like a really good product. I'd be so excited to hear from someone who has actually used it and found it good. What sorts of things do you use it for (besides your bathtub, of course)? Thanks for the info!

Tracey and Sue, Yes it is good to know that some of these products actually work. To be honest I had bought it when someone at work was talking about it (she liked it). I had forgotten I had it . Boy, I wish I had remembered earlier in the day. Let's just say I did a long comparison of products. LOL
It claims it is good for blood and juice stains. I'll be using it now!
(even for my bathtub-ha ha)

Tracey, In my haste I forgot to mention other things it's supposed to be good for, a laundry booster, carpet cleaning machines, carpet spot remover, tile and grout, organic stains and odors.

Thanks jazzcat - sounds like I could find a lot of good uses for it!

DH talked me into buying Oxi-Clean a few months ago. I mainly use it to clean up where my cats have thrown up (3 long-haired cats, there's always someone with a hairball). At first, I complained because I thought the Oxi-Clean was bleaching the carpet, but then DH found one of the scraps left over from installation and proved to me that the Oxi-Clean was not bleaching it - but it just cleaned the carpet so well, that it looked bleached where ever I used it.

Beacooker- Off topic on the off topic here but about your cats...have you tried the food that's labeled "hairball control"? A bunch of manufacturers are making it now like Science Diet, Iams, etc. and it has worked great - not a single hairball since switching to the special food. Lots of brushing helps too.
I have used Oxi Clean too. I bought a small container in Walmart. I can't remember what I got it for, but I wasn't that impressed the first time. The next time I pulled it out was to try to get paint out of a brand new shirt my son had been painting in at school. I had tried everything else and had really given up hope, then remembered the OxiCLean. It took the paint out!
Sometimes it takes one or two long soakings, and a few things it has not gotten out, but overall, it has worked more than not. Never put it in the bathtub though!

I had a similar thing happen. I ended up with orange stains in the grout of my shower. I was using Clorox Clean-up and I sprayed it on and was going to wait a few minutes before washing it off. Well, I got distracted and didn't get back to it until 1/2 hour later. Bright red orange stains!!!!
Well, I tried toliet bowl cleaner directly on it and it did a great job. The stains became much less noticable. I called the company on Monday and they said that the bleach caused a reaction with the lead that was in the tiles or grout. They said that it would wear off in time or that I could take a brand new bottle of peroxide and put it on it for about 20 minutes. Use paper towels to keep the area moist. Worked like a charm.

Just the other night I got together with some friends and the topic of cleansers came up (my life isn't as boring as it sounds - honest) and someone mentioned that the sunscreen they were using was leaving stains on her clothing. She called the company, and they recommended a product called "salts of lemon". Apparently you have to buy it from a pharmacist?! I guess it must be pretty tough stuff but my friend said it works better than anything she's ever tried - it's cheap too.
Just wanted to add that it can be used to clean just about anything - including tubs!

We live in Government (military) housing. Our unit was built in the late 60's or early 70's. Needless to say the tub is old and has seen a lot of families and various types of cleaning (or non cleaning LOL). It has a permanent "red dirt" ring in it. I've tried just about everything to get it out and the other night my neighbors were talking about something called "TRR" that they got at Walmart. I'm headed out there today to see about getting some. If it doesn't work I'll be buying some Oxy Clean.

I was thinking about buying Oxy-Clean myself, but that irritating guy on the infomercial makes me switch channels before I really find out what it can do!! DH talked me into buying a huge tub of Quick & Brite at a county fair, and so far I think that stuff is Grade A Poop. I haven't seen it take out one thing that plain 'ol soap and water wouldn't.
However I have a 42 year old house with a lot of stains and 'carpet souveniers' that I would love to try to remove. May have to put Oxy-Clean on the next shopping list and give it a whirl! :D
Oh, Jewel! I can't stand the TV commercials either, and I will never encourage them by mail ordering. It's enough to make you want to shoot the TV!
I thought about this thread today. Last night, DH put on a shirt I had just washed and dried in the dryer. It had a big stain right in the front which DH said he had pretreated and let sit for several days. Between that and the dryer, I figured the stain was pretty well set, but decided to try the OxyClean. Came right out! That alone was worth the price of a tub.
