Death Pool 2009 Updates

This month has been a very busy one. While no one foresaw the deaths of David Carradine or Billy Mays, there was more than one person who named all of the other celebrities. Here are the current standings:

While I didn't participate in the pool this year, I find the fact that kathyann's 3 celebrities all died in the same week to be very suspicious :eek:. If Billy Mays had been on her list I'd probably be calling the cops right now :p.

As far as I can tell, these are the standings as of today. It's been a very busy few months! The first number is the ranking, the second is the number of points.

Bonus points are noted with a * (First= 10 points) and ^ (Solo=15 points). (Sorry that they're switched around from the first posting!)

This is the first time I remember that happening -- usually, Eva was holding the "zero points" position. :p

I should brush up on celebrities before the end of the year. I didn't have ANY of the ones that everyone else seemed to have.

I'll remind you that last year, I had the first two deaths of the year and would have gotten bigtime bonus points under the NEW scoring system. DH was calling me the Grim Reaper. :eek:

BTW, I have a girlfriend who used to tell me this was a morbid game I played. But over the past few years, every time a celebrity dies she immediately calls me to see if I have them on my list. She was horrified that I didn't have Patrick Swayze on my list.

ALL of my friends (esp. the ones who used to give me a hard time about this being a "morbid" game) call or email me anytime someone remotely famous dies - "Was s/he on your list???"

OK! I'm sorry about the sporadic updates this year, folks. June was a particularly crazy month, in terms of celebrity deaths. I think this year was a record-breaking year for a few reasons. First, the sheer number of points recorded was higher than ever before. Second, there was not a single player who had zero points!

Our winner this year was the only person to keep up with British celebrities before the US tabloids got a hold of a certain story.

The highest points were scored by people who did their research and who had some sort of intuition: without Michael Jackson, you weren't in the top three.

I'll post the scores in the next post. Players, if there's a discrepancy, please let me know via PM and I'll fix it as soon as I can. Additionally, if you want your last year's picks sent to you, I can do that as well. Just give me a day or two to get back to you. :)
