This summer has been surprisingly busy for me this summer.
My husband and I went to Asheville, NC for one day of pampering and another of Antique store looking. I saw a neat trunk, this time. It had the words Jones Fur Service Clarksburg, WV stamped on it. Years ago, when I was 16, 17 and 18 years old, my part time job was being the gift wrap girl at a local department store. (That in itself was a fun job because back then there were no store bought bows, we came up with our own creations using ribbon that sticks to itself, when moistened.) Anyway, each spring, the women in town brought their furs in to be sent to, cleaned and held by Jones fur Service...so that sparked some neat memories.
Then we took a short trip to Central Illinois to purchase a horse trailer. This was the first time that I had even heard tornado sirens. We were awakened that morning by a horiffic storm. We had a storm similar, this past spring, not not nearly as bad as this one was. We were told that a tornado was spotted about 7 miles from where we were staying. WOW! Then on the way back, we broke down, the clutch went out on the truck in Kentucky..We called friends from home and they came to help us, we waited for 8 hours on the side of the interstate. We had one state truck stop to tell us where we were, mile-wise and a state trooper stopped 35 minutes before we were picked up. He had married a fairly local girl and gave us quicker directions to get home.
Then we went to Myrtle Beach for a week...actually Surfside Beach...The kids went and they took friends...that is always a lot of fun...
And now as I am typing this, I am at Virginia Beach for my first fun visit. I have been here a couple of times for the "Train the Trainer" classes for training the school bus drivers....but our days were spent in school and nights preparing for the end of week lecture we had to present. I have to say, I love this beach. I am amazed at how uncrowded it is. I'm here with my DD. Last night we were out walking and came upon a free outdoor concert being presented by the Wallflowers. We got in on the tail end of the concert, but got to hear 6 songs. I'm not a big Wallflower fan, but DD was very excited.
I have one more weekend planned to go and visit an aunt in a couple of weeks, who lives in Ohio and am going to the Fiesta Outlet Store at some point, while I'm there, and do other things while in that neck of the woods. (DD wanting to go the Rock'n'roll Hall of Fame (I think that's what she said.)
This has been my most fun summer in so long! I finally decided that memories just don't fall into your lap, so I'm makin' me some memories!
Hope you're having fun this summer, as well!:D
