It seems that the last post on this subject was in 2003, so I'm hoping that in the last 6 years maybe someone here has been acupunctured. :)

I just started sessions with an acupuncturist and while I'd like to think that maybe something is going on in my body that I'm not privy to (I guess I was expecting to *feel* somehow different after sessions), I wanted to check and see if anyone else has had any experiences with it, good or bad.

Thanks. :)

I haven't needed it (for the neck pain from my car accident) since the last time I had it done!!

DD has been going to an acupuncturist to find relief for (mainly) fibromyalgia symptoms. She does feel different after each treatment, and the gal also gives (sells) her different herbs, rubs and teas to help with the symptoms. She has found great relief, is definitely feeling better, and plans to continue going.

HTH:)

I have had very positive experiences with acupuncture. I went for a couple of months while nursing an injury during marathon training. I'd definitely do it again.

I tried it for infertility, and didn't help. However, one time I had some tight muscles in my neck and so I got a few extra needles in certain areas and that was nice. A lot of people find the sessions very relaxing, but I really didn't. I would rather have a pedicure or a massage.

I did drink a tea that she prepared for me. It was horrid stuff, but I really got used to it, and did get engergized from it in the morning.

My husband quit smoking with it and this was at least 15 years ago. He was about a 2 pack a day smoker and I really didn't think it was going to work because he really didn't want to quit but lo and behold, it did, he hasn't smoked since. He had 3 visits and the accupuncturist sent him home with some small needles in his ears (covered with a small bandage) which were removed after his treatment concluded of course. He said he would still get the cravings but they would go away almost immediately. It worked for him and I'm so glad.

I looked into doing it during my IVF cycle last fall and decided against it because it was too much money.
My cousin did it for PCOS and got pregnant after a year of TTC.

I went once for PCOS and didn't really click with the acupuncturist. Plus it was expensive. I didn't really find it as relaxing as I thought it would be.

I don't think relaxation is necessarily the point - unless you're going for tension. I'd schedule a 'talk' appointment, first, to see if you click, or if you think the practitioner is into the woowoo stuff.;)

Thanks for all the replies so far. :)

I've had two sessions so far and am feeling okay about things. I just am not sure what to expect as far as how I should feel afterwards, if I'll feel "different" if it's righted what's wrong, how long it takes to do its thing, etc. It's stupidly expensive but I bought a package of 5 sessions and will do the 5 and re-evaluate.

I can't take the Chinese herbs she's recommending as I'm afraid they'll interact with the meds I'm already on (long story), and so far my favorite part of things is the Zamboni-like thing/massager she uses at the end of the session. The needles don't really affect me that much, and I found myself staring at them the other day and wondering if they could possibly *do* anything, or if it's the placebo effect.

Since I don't know anyone in real life who's ever done acupuncture, I thought I'd query you all. :)

No experience with acupuncture myself but i remember as a kid we had one acupuncture specialist opened up the shop in the neighbourhood.i became good friends to him ,it was amusing to watch him ***** so many needles on to his patients,it was a little scary to me at that point of time.
