I made 20 (!) half-pints of strawberry jam this morning. I could probably make 8 or 9 more but I ran out of jars. :)

Anyhow, I do the hot water bath canning, and use the 2 piece lids. I have 2 extra lids that I got ready and I wondered if I have to throw those away, since the rubber gasket has been "activated" or if I can use them again if I let them dry out and put them away.

I usually end up with just the right amount, but this time I forgot to put a dab of butter in the 2nd batch, and I got a lot of foam I had to skim off, and so had a little less than I would have had I remembered the butter.

Just save your lids for another time- let them dry and cool down. Heating them up softens them so they adhere to the jars, just be careful to not scrape the soft rubber with a fingernail or something and they'll be good to go another time. :)
