What is your favorite fresh summer vegetable or fruit?

Do you have a certain way that you eat it that you think makes it the absolute BEST?

For me, it's cantaloupe. I could eat an entire one in a sitting if I would let myself. I love to eat them ice cold any time of the day.

I remember my mom's love for vine ripe tomatoes. I can't count the number of times that I would watch her walk out to the garden with a salt shaker in her hand. She always talked dad into planting a couple of cherry tomato plants for her. The day after a good rain (she claimed it cleaned the tomatoes off for her!), she would go out back, pick red tomatoes from the plant, salt them and eat them while standing in the middle of the garden.

For me, it's gotta be peaches! Now that I live in the South, we get locally grown peaches, which I eat unrefrigerated, standing over the sink, so the juice that drips down my arm lands there! In a fruit salad is the other way I love them -- and we're gonna make peach ice cream in the next day or two!:D

I also love tomatoes, and have certainly gone into the garden with a salt shaker! mmmmm tomatoes!

Without a doubt, cherries! I can eat go thru a pound or two of them in a blink of an eye. And, I mean blink. :D

Ironically, I don't like cherry pie/pastries. I eat the cherries as is. There was a thread about roasting them --- that sounded good..... icecream topped with some roasted cherries and chocolate.

Definitely one of my favorite foods, if not my favorite.

Plums would be a close second.

For fruit - it's cherries for me too! I love to eat them right off the stem, but am anxious to try roasting them sometime this week! I can't remember this moment who posted about doing that, but it sounds sooooo good!

For veggies - it's a tough call. I adore zucchini and tomatoes both during the summertime. I like my tomatoes sliced thick with a little salt and pepper - just naked basically so I can get the great flavor and sweetness. For zukes...I like to slice them 1/4 inch thick lengthwise and toss them on the grill with some EVOO and Tony Chachere's or other cajun seasoning....although Penzey's Foxpoint seasoning is good on them too!

I love cherries, too -- but the only good ones are from Whole Foods, which is 90+ minutes away... I don't get there often!:(

ALL stone fruit (peaches, plums, nectarines, cherries, etc) and FRESH FIGS! No need to get fancy with any of them, rinse them off and eat :D

I love the blueberries, hands down my favorite!

For vegetables I love to buy peppers at the farmer's market, especially the red ones, huge and juicy...
