I actually thought it was pretty good. I didn't freeze it; my fiance's appetite and lunch for two days took care of it!
Perhaps fresher ingredients would be better- they included a lot of 'convenience' items like prepared sauce and dried basil. I think fresh basil and a better sauce would improve it.

Our supper club had it for dinner the other night and I thought it was delicious! Reminded me of a pepperoni pizza, so I think pepperoni would be a fine substitution. (especially the reduced-fat turkey pepperoni made by Hormel)

I like the pepperoni idea; you could really substitute a lot of different meats or strong flavorings like pesto. I'll try those next time!

We really liked it - I used low-fat smoked ham instead of pricey proscuitto. I actually made it about a month ago, stuck it in the freezer, then thawed it out yesterday & baked it. It satisfied my lasagna cravings without making me feel guilty!

It must be the kind of meat, then. I'll have to give it another shot with ham or just go veggie style. Thanks for the input.

I have not even tried this recipe because of the proscuitto. I find that I really don't like it in foods and it seems to give things a weird flavor. I agree with using fresh basil instead of dried. The dried basil just does not ever have any flavor.

I have been holding off on trying this recipe because of the prosciutto, also. Do you think thin slices of pepperoni could be substituted? Last week I made lasagna using spicy low-fat Italian sausage. I usually make a mixture of ricotta, parmesan, oregano and egg. But I was inspired by this recipe and instead used ricotta, cream cheese, egg, basil (and I added some pesto and garlic to make it spicier.) My husband said it was the best lasagna I've made. I love lasagna, and often use whatever I have on hand. I've been thinking of a tomato and pesto lasagna. I think I'll have to try it one night (perhaps when my husband is out of town, as he wouldn't touch a tomato to save his life.)
