View Full Version : My cat has a foot fetish...

One of my cats absolutely loves feet. Whenever someone comes into our house, he 'scratches' their shoes (he doesn't have claws, so no damage done). One of his favorite ways to sleep is with his face pressed into one of my shoes. What the heck is up with that? Actually, we find it very cute, and once we re-assure guests that he can't hurt their shoes, they usually really like it too.

Another one of my cats loves to play with my bras. He'll pull them from the dirty laundry and carry them around the house and leave them - always have to do a 'bra check' in the house before guests come over.

There seem to be a lot of animal lovers on this board (and who can trust anyone who is not an animal lover, I think!), and I was just curious what bizarre things other people's pets do.

Beacooker, cats really identify with smells. Personally if my nose was as good as theirs, the last place I'd sleep is with my face in a shoe but who knows. For them it's very comforting to be around a smell they love so much. Also, your bras have a strong smell of you so in a way, it's a compliment that your cat wants them.

I foster cats through the SPCA rather than have any of my own pets right now. I really enjoy being able to help cats find loving homes like your home. You must be a wonderful pet parent.

My parents had a cat that would ring the doorbell when he wanted in the house. He'd jump on the chest freezer in the garage and push the doorbell.
And, if you didn't let him in he'd ring it twice!

We also had a dog that would steal other dog's dog bowls. We got some strange reactions when the other dog owners would find their dog bowls in our yard!

Unfortunately, my cats don't do anything as cute as yours, beacooker! I have one who is a compulsive licker, and licks the fur off of her tummy and back legs (we say she has OCD). Right now they are being cricket hunters. The crickets are bad for the second year in a row, and they get into our basement. So its happy hunting for the cats. Its bad enough having to dance around the cricket carcasses when I go downstairs to do laundry, but do they have to bring them upstairs? And do they have to sometimes still be ALIVE? Ugh!

Our cat is a pillow thief. Sometime during the night, he will take over one of our pillows and we will wake up with our heads on one little teeny corner of the pillow. And there he is all spread out on his back with his belly fully exposed!

Sometimes to get DH to move, he will lick DH's forehead in the same place for so long that it begins to hurt. And of course, since he is our baby, we contort ourselves in all sorts of positions to accomodate him!:)

Sara is our first experience as cat owners (we're dog people, but she adopted us when her old owner stopped paying any attention to her), so I'm not sure if what she does is unusual, but I think it's adorable.

She and the dogs share a water dish (it's one of those that holds about 2 liters of water in a bottle that mounts into the dish). She likes to dip her front left paw into the water and then lick the water off. She'll sit there for about 5 or 10 minutes doing that, and it's always the same paw. Dip, lick. Dip, lick. Dip, lick. Then she's done and walks away with a wet, drippy front paw.

Oh, aggie94, you reminded me of our little Katie who we lost 2 years ago! She liked to drink like that too! She also liked to do the happy feet/kneading thing that cats do on a particular teddy bear. (I still have the teddy bear :( ).

I have two cats, Boomer and BJ, who love to curl up under the covers during the winter, gravitating down toward the foot of the bed. One of them, BJ, will sometimes wake me up by taking my big toe between his paws and nibbling on it! That will send any human into escape velocity in 3 nanoseconds!

BJ also loves to walk on a leash: www.geocities.com/egyptales/BJwalk.html

My cat also has a foot fetish. Wet feet are his absolute favorite. Sometimes he will wait for you to come out of the shower just so he can lay on your feet.

Other things: He loves to sleep on your face when you are trying to sleep. He does a similar thing with his food as Sara does with drinking water. Sometimes he will scoop a couple of pieces of his food onto the floor and eat it from there. He doesn't do this all the time, but it is so wierd!!

But my baby Gilbert is a cutie and I love him.

One of our cats, Sophie, is fascinated by the bathroom. She loves to watch the toilet flush and sometimes I find her sitting in the bathtub watching the water drip. She also loves the smell of minty things like toothpaste. She climbs onto a built in bookcase and chases her tail (only during dinner). Sophie demands to smell your hair after you get out of the shower (sometimes she'll nip at your head). She sleeps under the covers with me and DH. She's very eccentric little cat.

Our other cat, Gunnison, loves to drink water out of glasses even when his bowl is full. He also does the dipping thing with his paw. Cat's don't have very good depth perception so I think it's their way of finding the surface.

Who says cats don't have personality!

Besides running around the house like a spooky cat, racing and chasing (she loves being chased also) our Sophie (popular name) sleds with my husband's slippers. After sniffing one for a while, front paws in the slipper, she pushes herself around the bedroom, like she is sledding. But if she sees you are watching, heaven forbid laughing, she stops immediately and slinks away. Wish I could get a video of it but that will never happen...

Aren't pets wonderful for your blood pressure? Come home after a tough day, and there they are, happy to see you!!

One cat I had, Mischief, loved people food and would do just about anything to get some.

One Thanksgiving we had cooked the turkey the evening before (as usual) and my mother left it in the oven (turned off) with the door proped open.
In the morning when we went to get the turkey some of it was missing. Apparently Mischief had gotten into the oven chewed through the oven bag and eaten part of a thigh. I can still imagine her thoughts, "mine all mine!" Needless to say we didn't serve that piece.

I loved hearing your stories about your kitties-lol! Just last Oct. Toonces arrived through the fence as a baby kitten, abandoned by my neighbor who had moved;(. We have a couch on our back deck and thats where she was 24/7 for a week and a half.
Everytime we opened ANY door or window she was there;running through our legs to get in. My BF HATED cats until then.
Now she is our 'kid'; she is such a joy and makes us laugh, constantly. She loves to sleep under the covers with us, and ends up laying belly-up across our necks in the morning-follows me everywhere, and drinks water ONLY from my tub. She loves the bathroom and baths!
I used to let her be a outdoor/indoor cat until last mo. (she is spade and has her shots). She was missing for 2 days, & when I found her crawling home;(-she had been hit in her behind and has had to have her tail removed. We are still nursing her back &, I will never let her outside again!
Everytime we open the front door we have to anticipate her bolting, but she is getting used to it now. We are always on guard, and I feel bad because it's my fault she was so free before-(and I stupid!). I have taken her freedom away from her.
She is such a joy and I love her so much and glad she 'appeared' in our yard:). She loves playing with and is used to our 3 birds, 1 iguana, and 1 dog-can't imagine our family without her.

Zinnia - Gunnison had been an outdoor stray and was eight months old when we took him home. I thought he'd never get used to being inside but once he realized that he had unlimited food, water, and a safe place to sleep, he soon lost interest in going outside.

Ours don't go outside - I just can't bear the thought of somthing happening to either of them.

We have two indoor cats, Dino and Rigby. Rigby is the youngest and still a kitten. Her favorite thing to do is climb up the clothes hanging in the closet and then sit on the very top shelf. She also loves carrying things in her mouth. We can never sit on the floor with a pen or pencil. She will pick it up and take it away. She also carries pennies and dimes in her mouth that she picks up off our bookshelf. I agree with everyone who said that pets sure give you joy and laughter!

We have 5 cats. I am not sure why the funny stories are not coming to mind right now.

Wait....there is one.

Once, Monkey Boy sneezed right in Lucy's butt. He was doing the lovely butt sniffing thing that cats do when he sneezed really hard. Lucy was sooo startled that she didn't know quite how to react. It was pretty funny.

Anyway, I know I can think of better ones....I am just tired.

My 14 year old cat Harvey is so funny. He's got his humans beautifully trained to meet his needs. If only we weren't so dense!
In our old house, he could get into all the lower cabinets in the living room and take a nap in there whenever he wanted. In our new house, all the cabinets are fitted with those modern hinges and latches that are stronger than he is, so he can't get in by himself. He's trained us to keep several cabinets open at all times, so that he can make sure he doesn't miss anything interesting that might be happening in there. He'll miaow incessantly and pester us to death about it until we notice that one of 'his' cabinet doors is shut and open it for him again.

He's also got us trained to brush him whenever he wants it. This is annoying when company comes, but he's always so blissfully happy to be brushed that it's kinda funny, so noone ever really minds.

We had to put litter boxes in every bathroom too, so he could have his choice.

Whenever he thinks it's late enough in the morning and I should be awake already, he'll get up in the bed beside my head and purr 'at' me until I get up. (even if it's only 6 A.M., more's the pity!)

Brilliant as he is, of course, he does have his catly moments. He'll chase his own shadow on the floor when the lighting is just right, and if light comes in through the blinds in just the right way, he'll chase the shadows across the floor for ages. I love the 'where'd it go?' look on his face when he blocks the light! LOL!

My cat is also 14. We have been waiting for him to slow down. He had no idea he wasn't a kitten anymore. He also is a big fan of the bath tub, to drink out of anyway. He isn't so fond of it when it is bath time. Before we remodeled the bathroom the old spigots were easy to turn on so he helped himself. Can't train a cat to turn them off however! Funny how he knew which one was cold...

He also likes to chase shadows. Bought a lazer pointer for him to chase but you know cats, the more money you spend on an item the less they like it. He prefers rubberbands and my golf tees.

He is a joy. He and my DH are two peas in a pod since DH started working out of the house. It will be a very sad thing for DH when the cat goes. :( Although, the vet said we can expect him to live to 20. And he is healthy.

Don't you hate that? When Sara "adopted" us, I figured she had never had a toy to play with in her life, so I went out and spent a small fortune on lots of play things for her. Turns out she likes to play with rubberbands and newspaper.

Same with other pets. Our dogs prefer sticks from the backyard to the Nylabones we buy them. And bird toys are so expensive, but Tuck will choose a shoelace over them any day.
