A group of my favorite gals got together yesterday to see the 4p showing of J & J and went back to my friend Susie's house for a dinner comprised of Julia's recipes. Loved the movie, and our dinner party was to die for!!
The courses:
Movie snacks- cheese galettes (Syd)
Apps- pissaladiere niciose (Wendi)
stuffed mushrooms (Carol)
First- green salad w/ vinaigrette (Kris)
Entree- Bouef Bourginion (sp!) (Susie & Nancy)
Dessert-Poached peaches w/ raspberry coulis and whipped and ice cream (Morrine & Peggy)
Beverages- lots of French wine: bubbly, Rose, and Pinot Nior.
Even if my very loose grip on technology works... my pictures do not do the table setting or food justice...but trust me, it was so-o-o good and beautiful and fun fun fun.

I was hesitant to post this before for fear of being banished from the boards, but DW and I went to Pick Up Stix for dinner before seeing Julie and Julia. Although, to make amends for that dinner, we had a nice palmiere from the French bakery right next door for dessert. :D

love it! That sounds so fun...I really do think I'll have to fork over the money and see this movie soon. Meryl Streep does a great Julia, and I loved the book. Can you imagine cooking with that much butter?

What a great idea. I haven't seen the movie yet and although I will go and see it with a few close friends none of my local friends are "foodie" enough to take it to this degree:(

Same here....
First I invited the closer friends (the least foodies of all ladies ever!) to go see the movie, none wanted to go... then I invited some neighbors and they accompanied me but wanted to go to TGI afterwards... sigh, I truly wish I had more foodie girl friends.
The movie was great and it was a lot of fun to sit and chat after that, even though I didn't have anything to eat at the chosen place.

And same here. Wendi - you're so fortunate to have such wonderful foodie friends! The menu looks like it made for a fantastic meal. I saw the movie last week and I can't stop thinking about making Beouf Bourguignon!

Our local bookstore and coffee shop did a 2-part Julie and Julia. A wonderful young gal named Julie who teaches Lebanese cooking in town was invited to do a presentation one night of the rich dairy based French and a week later the Provencal dishes. The first night was day before movie opened. The second even offered a chance for the guests to discuss the movie. Both were great and well worth it. I still haven't seen the movie but loved the celebration
