What are your predictions for the spotlight countries in the October, November, and December issues? My guess is Germany for October (Oktoberfest and all). And surely they won't finish the year without doing Mexican??

What do you think??

I wish they'd go a Scottish/Irish theme. I love traditional Irish/Scottish foods, but they are extremely unhealthy. I would love to see Meat Pies with Gravy & Peas, Fish & Chips, Oatcakes, Scones, Lamb stew, etc. These are recipes that are so comforting to eat in the fall/winter and I have NEVER seen this region represented in any light cooking.

I think you're right about German and Mexican. Maybe Japanese or Italian.

I second Heather's idea. Having lived in Aberdeen for two years and being of Irish decent that would be great to have. And if they can lighten German food Scotch/Irish should be a snap!

For those of us who don't have the Sept issue yet, what is the cooking class country this month?

Kendra,
It's South America, the continent as opposed to a specific country.

I don't think I can say without loosing my job but
Mexican is among the last three. But Northern European cuisines will not be among them. For that matter Southern European will not be either.

I am thinking Indian.

Haven't they already done Italian?

Yes, Italian was in one of the spring issues, I think.

I am REALLY hoping for German - i love German food. So hearty and comforting.

pmmahan - Didn't John say no European? Or are you still hoping? ;)

He said no northern or southern. I'm thinking eastern europe still has a shot.

Good point. I had sort of read his post to mean no Europe at all. Even if that's true, there's always next year! I'm anxious to see what the other two countries/regions will be. I'd love to see Indian!

OK, John, thanks for the clue!?!?

So, my first "educated" geuss would be Mexico (will it be truly Mexico?). And then I'll just wing it and guess...Filipino and maybe Japanese.

So, so far we KNOW it's:

Indian
Mexican

I also think Asia will be the 3rd. We've already done Thailand. Viatnamese would be good.

Or Korean, my favorite!!!

Bulgogi, yum!

I would LOVE to see Korean featured. Even if it's not, hopefully CL is reading this thread to see all the regions we want!

i would love to see German as well!! Maybe if it's not this year we could special request it for next year :D

I'd love to see Vietnamese, too....
It would be great if CL could take some of our suggestions to heart, but magazines work 3-6 months out, on average, and I'd be shocked if they haven't already determined (and started work on) the cuisines they're featuring.

Are they even going to continue this feature into the next year? They already did Indian and German once, just last year (I was leafing through some old issues last night). When I read the January issue, they said that they wanted to do a one year "Cooking Class" section - which to me implied they would only do it for this year.....hmmm....wonder what's in store for next year - especially with a new editor?????

Funny how everyone keeps talking about places on the European and Asian continents (except Mexico, of course). Hmmm... What about Africa? Morocco, South Africa, Eastern or Western Africa? Or maybe yet another continent, Australia?

I'd like Korea or the Philippines, myself. But I just had to throw in a new continent or two.;)

Cheers,
Phoebe

I think there will be Japanese, definitely. I know this sounds crazy, but maybe the third country will be the United States?? I was thinking lightened regional cuisine-- southern fried chicken, Philly cheese steaks, etc., etc. Of course, this type of cuisine makes up a big chunk of CL recipes already, so maybe I'm wrong.

I was also thinking Ethiopian. I don't know anything about that region, and would love to learn.

Indian would be awesome! Japanese would be fun and interesting, too.

It seems like they publish Mexican dishes reguarly, so don't know if I'd be that excited about it. However, most of the dishes are typically more Mexican-American, so tips on making the "real stuff" would be good.

How about British!? (just kidding. I couldn't resist. That would be a boring feature, eh?)

so its mexican, indian, and....? i think as long as they're highlighting a continent this month, then maybe they should do africa. i don't know much about african cuisine, but i'd be interested o at least read about it... japanese is a good guess for the 3rd country, maybe complete with a sushi-making lesson...
