I have looked in the grocery stores (Vons, Ralphs and Trader Joe)
and NOBODY has espresso powder.
I usually substitute with double the amount of Folgers Crystals.
Where do you buy it?

I believe that I bought some a few years ago at Cost Plus.

I buy mine at King Arthur Flour (www.kingarthurflour.com). I will attempt to post a link to the product page, but if it doesn't work just search for espresso on the main catalog page and it will come right up.

If you have a Books-A-Million, Barnes & Noble, or one of those other large bookstores that sell fancy coffee drinks in your area, that's a great source!

Curleytop,
I am so glad you have asked this question (why didn't I think to ask) I, too, have been looking for it in all the grocery stores around here and no luck. I hate to order a little thing like that from a website. I think I will try a Barnes & Noble. I hope they have it. There are a lot of recipes that I have thought of making calling for that.
Anyone else with any suggestions?

maizeyoats, I also would not want to order just the espresso powder all by itself from a website. However, if you have trouble finding it elsewhere, I would definitely give King Arthur flour a try. They have excellent customer service, and I can always find a few other baking staples that I need at any given moment to beef up my order a little. Their shipping is really reasonable also (they charge only by weight, so that you are paying a real shipping costs, not an inflated one).
I am assuming that buying from Barnes & Noble is just going to be regular ground espresso. I think the extra finely ground powder like what they sell at KA is supposed to be the best for cooking because it dissolves really quickly and completely.
I have had luck after having the grocery store manager order the product. Sometimes, you have to re-remind them, but the grocery stores usually can get it.

Does your grocery store carry GFIC (General Foods International Coffees)? You know - the kind in the small rectangular tins with names like Cafe Vienna, Suisse Chocolate Mocha. etc? If so, they have an "Espresso." I have always used this whenever a recipe calls for espresso powder.

It only comes in pretty small jars..so, its not always easy to find..not always even on the top shelf..but, if you can't find it, just double the amount using instant coffee.

I had a recipe that called for Expresso Powder. I looked in cookware stores and coffee houses. No one had it. One day I was in my local supermarket and on the shelf with the instant coffee was EXPRESSO POWDER!! I was thrilled! I expected it to be in a gourmet aisle?? Anyway, I made the recipe and it was yummy!

I am so glad someone finally asked about this. I have seen it in my King Arthur catalog, but hate to pay that much in shipping unless I'm ordering something else. Has anyone actually seen it at Barnes and Noble, because it is supposedly totally different than just expresso beans ground fine. If anyone finds it at grocery stores, please list them. I'm stuck in grocery store no-man's land (otherwise known as the place where all people care about is how cheap something is!), and I have only seen it once and thought I would just go back for it and of course have never seen it again.

I've seen at safeway, andironico's, whole foods. Its a small jar, with the instant coffee. I always find it either on the top shelf or nestled in the middle somewhere. The one that I bought has an itallian name, has a green top on the jar..just tossed on and I can't remember the name...like landmark driving, i buy by label recognition..sorry. If your store doesn't have it, I've found they're usually pretty willing to get it for you if their wholesaler carries it.

I have also bought it at Cost Plus, but you can use instant coffee crystals with the same results - just crush it up.
