I'm thinking about starting my own web page or web site and was wondering if any of you have your own sites to share. I'd love to see what you've done, and like all other things on this board, "borrow" from your ideas and solicit your comments and advice.

Also, I recently started a home-based business and would like to possibly sell some things on my site too. So any advice on how to do that would be helpful.

Thanks!

Click on "members" on the top of the page and you will get a list. Those who want to share websites have listed them. I don't have one myself, but know you can find them there.

Good advice.

Mine can be reached at www.tale-spinner.com. This profiles my writing. I have some other pages on yahoo.com that show my house, pets, etc, that I share with family.

If you want to set up a personal page, yahoo (www.geocities.com) has a nice pagebuilding feature that is free. So does homestead (www.homestead.com) that are well put-together.

Let us see what you set up, and have fun!

(Taking off the Administrator hat...)

I have an e-commerce site that I sell some personal crafts on. I use PayPal (http://www.paypal.com) to handle the transactions. It allows you to accept credit cards and e-checks on your site. It's free to set up but of course, PayPal gets a minimal cut from each sale.

I really like how easy it is to set up.
It allows you to adjust for shipping and handling charges, state taxes, etc.

It's not the most flexible e-commerce tool out there but it does the job. I've received many more orders now that I'm able to take credit cards. It also deposits all funds directly into a bank account and emails you when you have an order.

Hope that helps. Oh - and I'm sure there are similar services out there if you look around...

My darling BF and I run a web server out of our home. We also have a little, but growing, business on our site. We sell some electronic components and circuit boards for electronics hobbiests.

We have gotten a lot of very useful information from Jakob Nielsen, a web usability expert. His web site is http://www.useit.com He authored a very informative book titled Designing Web Usability: The Practice of Simplicity

We have been implementing a lot of Nielsen's suggetions and have been receiving very positive feedback from our customers.

We had a big advantage when setting up our web site, Paul (my darling BF), is an electrical engineer and an awsome programmer. He programmed our shopping cart from the ground up. We also run a secured server, so our customers can enter their credit card information on our order form and submit it to us through an encypted connection (safe to send CR card info). We also opened up a credit card merchant account with our bank so that we could accept and process credit card orders ourselves.

There are some canned shopping cart programs out there. I believe there are also some programs out there, similar to pay pal, that will allow you to accept credit cards without having to have a merchant account.

Maelynn, glad you can take off your admin hat and join in some discussion! :)
