That is great Anne. Let's see if we can get together for coffee at the Coffee Depot one morning! I would love to do a "third Saturday" dinner or something like that.

I helped start a CL supper club last year in Chicago. I just relocated to the Sacramento area (work in Rancho Cordova- live in Placerville). So glad that there are others out there interested! Please keep me posted with your plans. I don't mind helping coordinate it either.

Hi everyone. I have gotten some great response to the Supper Club idea. It would make the most sense to do a quarterly dinner, this way we can pick a theme and have several new magazines to work with. How about the first Saturday in October to start? September for me is pretty much out for me.
:D
Also, I may not be getting this email to everyone. I am trying to figure out how to use the emails so it reaches everyone in Sacramento. If you know how let me know!

The first Saturday in October is great for me. Placerville isn't very central to all of you- but if no one else volunteers- I wouldn't mind hosting.

Even though many people live on the outskirts of Sacramento- is there some place fairly central where we could have a pre-dinner meeting to plan a little bit? If everyone works in Sacramento County we could attempt an after work drink or something?

It's really easy to set up an evite.com invite list if you're able to collect everyone's email addresses.

The first Saturday in October works for me at this time. I agree that we should all plan on meeting first....maybe at a Starbucks? I work in Folsom and have most Thursdays and every Fridays off. For those in Auburn, where would you like to meet? Any ideas, anyone?

Hi there-
With all the responses I'm seeing, it looks like there are enuf interested people for 3-4 clubs. I'm in Weimar (above Auburn), so it's quite a drive to El Dorado hills or Davis. Especially if wine will be offered w/dinner--and why in the world would it not?

So, I'll lurk around to see if enuf people in the Auburn/Roseville area are interested. Auburn people I would love to hear from you.

I live in Ornagevale and am interested in a Supper Club. I can
read everyone's emails and see that the first Saturday in
October is everyone's choice, unfortunately, I will be out of
town that day.
Are you going to meet before that day to lay plans? Please
let me know.

My husband and I live in Elk Grove and would be very interested in a supper club closer to home. Especially if it was a "child tolerant" one.:)

Please reply here to let me know if anyone is interested.

Hi everyone. So glad to see all the new folks responding to a supper club in the Sacramento area. I understand the concerns that I am reading (ie. distance, child care, etc). What I would suggest is that we all continue to stay in communication, even have the first one together, and then seperate into different clubs according to areas. Then even get together once a year for a big bash (wine included!!). The first doesn't work for all, but we need to start somewhere. I am flexible, until my schedule fills up, which is about a month in a half in advance of a date we are setting. Could we coordinate a meeeting in Roseville to start? That seems to be in the center of us all??

After sending the last message, I thought it would be best to set a date and try to get as many people there as we can. So take a look at Sunday evening at 6pm, at Borders Books in Roseville. Please post whether or not you can make it.

Alexandra-
Sounds Great! We will be at Borders Books in Roseville, 6p.m., Sunday, September 23rd with bells on -- sans wine.
I think there is a little karma, destiny, whatever, at work here in that it's been so long since I've been on this website & to come on just as this club is organizing AND I checked your "profile" our birthdays are one day apart!
Looking forward to meeting you all,

I will be on vacation Sept. 19 - October 6th so I'll miss the first
meeting and first get-together. I'm anxious to become a
member though and meet new friends who want to have some
fun cooking!
My kids have just left home, I work one day a week and have a
large kitchen and eating area. Since I am somewhat centrally
located in Orangevale, I am more than willing to host our get-
togethers for a supper club group. Perhaps the Placerville and
Folsom individuals would be interested.
My husband and I travel often and have to plan our schedules
three months in advance. Once we meet, we can plan future
dates.
Please reply if interested.......

Hi All, I just wanted to let you know about at least one Cooking Light Supper Club in the Sacramento Area. It all started about 2 years ago with a simple post on the board like Alexandra's, by Cathie up in Roseville. She got a ton of responses too, and over the course of several months of emails she organized a get together at Il Fornaio in Roseville so everyone could get acquainted and organized. Three groups were formed, roughly based on location, with about 8 members in each group (including spouses). Most of the people in the group I belong to are from the foothills area (Roseville, Placerville, Applegate, then me in Sacramento). We meet about once a month, and sometimes will get together for a special dinner out. Once we had a large group of people from all the supper clubs meet for a spectacular dinner at The Kitchen. Since then we've heard that the other two groups have disbanded. We lost one couple to their workload, but acquired a wonderful new couple in their place. The host gets to choose a theme, if they want, and the entree, and then we coordinate the accompanying dishes. Some things do get prepared ahead, but we do a lot of the cooking together, helping on each others dishes. It gets chaotic in the kitchen sometimes but we have a blast. There is always plenty of good wine (and bloody marys at our last "dinner" which was a brunch) and great conversation and of course the food is wonderful.
It's great to see this much interest in the Supper Clubs, and I wish you all a lot of luck in forming your own groups. Maybe we can have a Cooking Light Supper Club Convention in Sacramento (area) sometime soon! Please let me know if there is anything we can do to help you guys.

Sunday Sept 23 at the Borders in Roseville is fine. Hopefully there's only one- as I've got no idea where I'm going! (I'll look it up.)

I like the idea of regional groups with larger get togethers a couple of times per year (or a convention). Although I wouldn't mind seeing if there are "interest" groups within the larger groups- like parents w/ children, singles, couples w/ no kids, etc. Personally I'm finding it difficult to meet other single people in Placerville! Although my Chicago group had a cross section of all sorts of people and we had a great time with food and wine as the common denominator!

Excellent.....6:00pm, Sept. 23rd at Borders in Roseville....I'll be there. Shall we meet in the cafe? We'll need a way to identify our group as well.

Kathy in Orangevale---although you won't be able to make it to the meeting, don't lose touch with us! You live not too far from me!

I have gotten many responses from some very interested people regarding the Supper Club, Yipeee!! I look forward to meeting everyone at Borders on the 23rd at six pm. Hummm, how to identify ourselves?? Any suggestions? I could strap a skillet on my head, just kidding. We'll meet in the cafe and go from there.

Hi everyone. this is the Cathie that MikeB referred to above in his email. Our Cooking Light club is coming up on a year and it's been great. Not only are we "great cooks", but we've become friends too. We've got a mix of ages from the 30's to the "it's not polite to ask" ages; so don't try to keep an age group together.

Our group is couples - we couldn't see excluding non-cooks, we figure they appreciate good food just as much as we do. Even got one "non-cook" to stir something for 5 minutes at one gathering - a great accomplishment.

Our themes have ranged from Oriental (a 2 1/2 hour frenzy of chopping followed by 5 minutes of cooking - we all brought woks!) to my tribut e to the US - at least one ingredient had to come from the New World.

Get together - see who clicks and go from there - if you want to keep in touch and exchange ideas and maybe get together, respond to this and we can email offline from the bulletin board.

Good luck and persevere - it's worth it.

Hi Everyone!
I would like to come to the meeting on September 23rd but there are two Borders locations in Roseville. There is one at the Galleria Mall and one on Douglas Blvd. Which one shall we meet?

I didn't realize there was a Borders at the Galleria, I thought it was Barnes and Noble. We will be meeting at the Borders on Douglas Blvd!!
See you then.

I am interested in joining/creating a supper club also! Unfortunately I cannot make it on the 23rd of September. I live in the downtown/midtown area, will somebody put my name on a list for a potential club - I would really appreciate it. I am new to the area, and would love to get to know some people who also love to cook/eat.

Alexandra

I will put together a list of all people that are interested and post a message after our meeting to let everyone who couldn't make it know how things went.
I hope everyone is well during these turbulent times.

Pot luck in Roseville Oct 13th sounds great. I would love to attend. Where is it being held? I am a bumbling idiot when it comes to finding information on these bulletin boards. Is the information out there somewhere or can someone e-mail me? Also, what should I bring - dinner, appetizer, dessert, my choice? This is going to be fun! Thanks, Kristen

Just checking to see if we're still on for tomorrow night. I'm trying to finalize my plans for the weekend . . . need to make sure to leave time to cook tomorrow if necessary! Need a little bit of advanced notice since I've got to come all the way in from Placerville.

Would definitely like to go and am willing to bring anything. I prefer to make up desserts.
