I'm sorry but the fact that this BB had no ads was quite attractive. What about those of us that don't use Netscape? Yes, I would guess those would be the ones they are targeting! Am I the only one annoyed by this? I hope not! Surely CL could put this crap somewhere else!!!!

Your're right Sneezles! The board never had these ads before and it can be annoying! You know what I really can't stomach and curse everytime......its when you open a website and these ads pop up in the back which you never see or catch until a few minutes later or when you close out....there they are....hanging there to annoy you.:p

I don't care for them either but I ignore them.

You're exactly right, Mamasue!
Sort of subliminal but not...they are there and that is the first thing you see! It sucks big time!!!

CL, stick these ads where they belong! On your homepage! Please do not annoy those of us who love this BB!!!

I use Netscape, so I haven't been subjected to the ads you are talking about, but I sympathize with you. I can't stand when I have to close tons of other ad windows just to get to a site!

I also can't stand when I get the pop-up window about getting two free issues of CL. If we can use cookies for the board, they should be able to recognize us with cookies when we surf the site, similar to Amazon!

Sue,
I use both Netscape and IE, victim of circumstance when the BB had a crisis! It's just my habit to log on with IE and not Netscape. If I could shut the window would be one thing but these little suckers don't have a little X in their corner, they just flash and flash and flash and...

Well, gee. I was just using my Netscape and didn't notice whether the ads were there or not, silly me.

Guess I just block those things right out, eh?

I didn't notice it until you mentioned. Thanks, I guess... ;)

There are those of us who consider it our duty to inform and/or enlighten! And then there are those who choose to NOT!
I do my part, annoying as it might be!

I was curious to see what you might be experiencing, so I logged on with IE and Netscape 6 to see if there would be a difference (compared to my usual Netscape 4.75). When I used IE, sometimes instead of the Netscape ads at the top of the page, I'd see the phrase "Action Cancelled" a couple of times.

At least the ads I'm seeing don't BLINK! Whew!

I still think those annoying camera ads that pop up and then try to hide so you can't close the window are worse. :)

I dunno...I guess they have to put their ads somewhere, and most of the time I'm scrolled down far enough that I don't even notice them! I'm using Netscape and I still see them, but as stated, only when I'm reading the first post. Frankly, I'm too busy reading what you folks have to say!

Besides, I totally tuned out to banner ads back on the I-village message boards last year. They had Oshkosh and Baby Superstore banner ads on the 'Childfree by Choice' board, and (my personal favorite) the E-Diets.com banner flying above the 'Eating Disorders' board. I'm surrounded by advertising all day long, so one more place doesn't bother me! :p I just don't pay attention to it!

I guess I don't even notice the banner ads. The pop-ups annoy me though.

I had seven yesterday!! If you go to the left hand side on the top, click and close. Egads, I don't see the banners anymore, either but those pop ups get my goat!!

I actually use Netscape, and they're still on my screen -- so I'm not sure it's selective advertising. They don't bother me nearly as much as those pop-up ads that come up when you click the "back" button. Those drive me absolutely up the wall!! I think it's extremely pushy and inconsiderate, especially since my subscription lasts for the entire next year!

I use IE, and basically I ignore them. The pop up ads on this (and any other site) are what get me going. ACK!

I, too, ignore the Netscape banner. But what's more irritating is the cookies that come with it! I only selectively accept cookies, & until I accept the one for this banner ad, the cookie warning keeps popping up.

Another useful program for blocking these banners is WebWasher (can't think of the exact web address, maybe webwasher.com?), but I'm sure you can find it at www.hotfiles.com or www.download.com - it's FREE!

Ralph, thanks for the tip. The banners don't bother me cuz I just focus on the center of the screen and don't really see them. I'm cued for khaki! However, I join those who hate the pop-up windows, especially when the majority of them around here have been to sell me the CL magazine I already have. I usually close them before they even load, but it would be nice not to have to bother.
