I guess I'll start this weekend even though I haven't run today. The end of a weird week for many with plenty of runs and rides last week. I guess Susan is getting back from SD and anniversaries are being celebrated all around the group.
Claiming a ride this afternoon - ~9 miles (short one but still...). the weather was too hot to run really (80  today). What happened to fall?
Busy afternoon tomorrow and I'll get another ride in. I'll get a chance to ride on a new portion of the W&OD trail after I work shortly after lunch at Church for a while.
Anyone have plans for the holiday on Monday? I think it'll be sleep and baking Eucharist bread since I've got no classes.
Happy trails all and have a great weekend,
Les

Les - thx for kicking off the new weeek! Awesome rides lately. I love autumn.
Speaking of autumn....DH, Bode & I went for a great 45 min run today....in snow flurries! Very few flakes, but it is the official first snow of the season. I really do love these temps for running. It's sunny & gorgeous out now.
Tomorrow is Chicago Marathon, btw, and Ironman Kona, too! Have a few friends doing each of them. It will be quite chilly in Chicago. Hopefully it will be dry, today I think they have rain.
Hope everyone's having a great weekend. I'm enjoying a lazy weekend at home w/DH after being on the road. And, yes, Les, lots o' anniversaries....ours is Monday. 13 years :-)

Les, 9 miles is better than none. Weird to hear you say it's too hot there given today's weather here.
Susan, sounds like we had similar runs! And, Ironman Kona is today actually, I'm streaming right now since Gecko reminded me on another thread. Go Gecko's DH!
I got out for about 40 minutes today. Took it pretty easy as far as effort goes just to allow myself to really enjoy the time. It's about 25 degrees out, a light snow is falling, the trees are green, gold and red. The crunch of both snow and leaves underfoot and steam coming off the lake were melodious. Really a nice soul feeding run. Much needed after so much sorrow over the last 2 weeks with the service yesterday. A runner friend and organ recipient in Iowa ran a race today with Jessica's name on one of his calves (his donor's name is always on the other). Such a comfort to think of that as I ran.

That sounds like a great run and I'm almost ready for a little snow to run in. It's been too long since I've had the pleasure of running in the white fluffy stuff. I hope that this coming January I'll be able to get some snow running in when I go to Portland (PDX). I'm choked up by the runner with Jessica's name on his calf. Bless you this weekend too.
susan - I hope you had an enjoyable day with DH and happy 13 years to you both. May you have countless more.
Today's run or ride was a bust. I went to church to do some preparation for a baptism that we're having tomorrow - only the second time I've worked with a family who is having their child (4 month old) baptized. It was neat and informative for later - how do I talk about something like that with others. Then it was raining so the ride I had planned didn't materialize so I snuggled myself up with my computer to work on a sermon I'm delivering on Thursday at school in Chapel. That one may be one of the most unnerving sermons because of the audience - all my classmates and all very literate people in scripture and the stories of the bible. But I bet I'll be fine if "I" stay out of the way.
See you all later and have a wonderful remainder of the weekend.

Les, that sermon on Thursday sounds like a tough one, but I have every confidence that you will be able to do it successfully. Good luck!
And...
I'm almost ready for a little snow to run in
take it back!! take it back!! :D
Wow, Robyn, you described your run so nicely that I'm thinking that I may want it to snow... uh, no... just kidding...
(yes, I know that you like the white stuff, but I prefer my "white stuff" to be the toasty sand of a warm beach!)
Susan, happy anniversary!
Yesterday I was running late (haha) and only went out for a 2.5 mile run. Today I did 3.5 miles because, when we went out for dinner last night, I ate a very, very good dessert. Way good. Too good. I plan to be on the trails every day this week as penance. ;) Worth it? Oh, yes! A large peanut butter cup (I had no idea that they were made so big) with lots of vanilla ice cream on top, drizzled with both peanut butter and fudge sauces. I very rarely order dessert when we go out to eat (which, itself, is also an uncommon occurrence) but a friend pressured me...
That's my story and I'm sticking with it! :p
Hope that you all have had nice weekends!!!

Just got home from our weekend a little while ago to find the whole house clean and flowers on the table (anniversary gift from DD). She spent the evenings with Grandma, but was home (and apparently busy!) during the days while we were gone.
We actually spent the weekend visiting DS since he had several music events this weekend. One included marching before and at halftime of the school's homecoming game. It was FREEZING, and the game was pitiful, but the band looked great! :D Not the usual way we spend our anniversary weekend, but it was enjoyable, nonetheless.
Mostly sitting in the car, sitting in the movie theater, sitting in restaurants, sitting at football games....you get the idea. I will be on the TM bright and early in the AM doing my penance right along with you, Vickie! (The dessert sounds sinfully good. :))
Are you doing anything special for your 13th tomorrow Susan? Congratulations to both of you!
Robyn, your run sounds lovely! Glad to hear it was therapeutic. :)
Les, I can't believe you have temps in the 80's! Good luck with your sermon preparations. I am sure it will be fine. Even though you all have the same knowledge base, you all come from unique perspectives.
Wishing you all a great week.

Back to report 45 min on the TM, and it felt great. Now....off to do the laundry. Fun, fun, fun! ;)

My it is quiet these days. Maybe the holiday has been productive for many away from the BB.
Susan - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! I hope you and DH had a great day.
Good TM Kathy and I hope the laundry isn't too bad. That was a neat surprise from DD - she's a keeper isn't she? I spoke too soon about the weather too - it was in the 50s today, high of 56 low of 52 and GREY.
Vicci - I'll get you over to the dark side soon and you'll love running in the snow. :D Dessert sounds divine, decedant but divine. Good job on your run too.
Thank you all for your confidence. I'm feeling better about this sermon than I have felt about any other one I've done at school. I think I'm growing into the practice - still it will be unnerving to preach with all those people around.
I got up late (nice to have a holiday from school :D ), baked communion bread for the week, and got a ride in (before falling asleep on the love seat). The ride was pretty good but the temp and overcast made it tough. I had to have a fair amount of clothes on to start with but when the clouds broke I was definitely overdressed.
I pray all are well and I'll be in touch. A busy week since we're leading worship in the morning (8:10 start time) Tue-Thur and Communion Wed noon and I'm preaching Thu noon... I guess I'm going to spend a lot of time (no more than usual though) in church. You'd think I was studying to be a clergyman or something. ;)
Happy trails,
Les

Susan Happy anniversary!
Vicci I'm with Les, maybe one of these days we'll convince you to like running in the snow. If I can go from hating running to craving it then maybe you can love (or at least like) running in the snow. One of my favorite parts is the muffled sounds around and the crunch of snow underfoot. That dessert sound incredible!
Kathy Happy anniversary to you too! And what a sweet gift from DD.
Les good luck this week!
I got a 3 mile run in this evening in a current ramp PB time so that was good. I am happy to be returning to a normal schedule even if my heart still feels heavy.

Back to backs for me this time. I did a pilates class tonight which felt good. We'll see how I feel tomorrow. :p

Thanks Robyn - good workout for you.
One day down (the easy one) and two big days to go. 4 services including singing a Psalm (tomorrow) and preaching (Thursday).
Maybe a run tomorrow afternoon.
Happy trails,

Glad you had a good workout, Robyn! I finally did some yoga again this AM, and it felt really good, too.
Good luck with your big days, Les, and here's hoping the run works out!
Did a quick 30 min on the TM today, then had to go to DD's marching band competition. Luckily, they got to march BEFORE the rain started, but it was still pretty cold. They did very well though, and it was fun to watch. Their band director always comes up with a very creative show. This year's was titled...."Joe Buys a Time Machine and Brings it to Band"! :D
See you all tomorrow!

Thx for the anniversary wishes, everyone! We went out to a new sushi restaurant for dinner (thought you'd like that, Les). It was excellent. We still have our fav in town, but it's nice to have options
Alas, no workouts since Sat. And for no good reason either. oi! I really am in a rut. The idea of my same ol' neighborhood running routes bores me right now. Need to snap out of it. I have a race in 11 days. With lots o hills. Eek!
It's raining buckets today (did that come from you Kathy??), so not sure if I'll get out. Maybe at least I'll squeeze in some core work.
Kathy - that band competition sounds fun! Hope they did well
Hello all. We are back from our quick trip to the right side of the country. Everything went beautifully. The fall weather was a delight--changing leaves and all. The wedding we attended (dh's cousin's) was absolutely perfect in every way. A fantastic time was had by all.
I'm back and ready to shed the travel weight. Seems I eat more when sitting still on an airplane. Go figure. Short TM run yesterday and quick TM walk/weights this morning. Hoping to lengthen the routine as soon as I'm settled back in to normal life again. When does that happen exactly?
Just did a quick review of everyone's posts. Happy anniversary, Susan! Sounds like you had a great time. Robyn, I'm glad you're getting in some therapeutic workouts after what you've been through. Les, sounds like you're doing well. And KathyB, busy as always. Vicki, I'm gonna have to go with fall weather right now. Of course, my idea of fall weather is different than yours. :D

Tkay Glad you had a good time in the NE!
I got in a very short (15 minute!) run tonight. I got home late after a long, hard day at work and really, really wanted to run. Unfortunately I dressed for the temps when I left the office and forgot about temps dropping quickly as the sun went down so I was getting a bit cold out there. I recently picked up a headlamp on www.steepandcheap.com for all of $10 plus shipping so I had that on as it got dusky for visibility but if I'd dressed better I would have gone longer. Really wasn't as long as I wanted but at least I got out for something. Funny how the only thing I wanted to clear my head after a tough day was a run. :p

Robyn - I'm impressed that you got out there, even for a short bit! (sometimes those are the hardest ones to make yourself do) While I love autumn, I'm sooooo not ready for it to get dark so early!
I got a run in yesterday, too! Woo hoo! My first since Sat. I had a weird ache in my ankle (haven't been doing my stability exercises lately), but it passed quickly. I was out for 40 min. It felt nice & steady. Today is rain & bad schedule, so will aim for Fri or Sat for my next one.

Susan hope the ankle isn't serious! Nice job on your run.
I got out for about 30 minutes today at a good pace. Tomorrow is a rest day and I think I'm meeting with a friend to see Teton Gravity Research's newest ski movie.

Sorry about your ankle Susan. It sounds like you have much of the same problem I do. It sounds like you're just a little tweaked and nothing terrible if the pain/weirdness passed quickly.
Good run Robyn and I hope you enjoy the skiing movie.
I didn't get out today but I will admit that my week has been a blast and an absolute affirmation. What with a great day yesterday and two services that were well done and well received. And the sermon I preached today was "just what the doctor ordered" for many of us around campus (visible on facebook in a note and on my blog). Everything is going swimmingly and I'm ready for the week to end: 5 services in 3 days with integral parts in 4 of them.
Hopefully a run in the offing tomorrow. Certainly won't be riding outdoors, it's only supposed to be ~44 and rainy/drizzly. Not good riding weather in my book.
Happy trails all,
Les
