I am looking for a recipe for macroons. Not necessarily low-fat. I tried the CL ones, but they weren't quite what I was looking for. I want the kind that you get at pastry shops and restaurants. (Not the meringue kind.) Any help?

You don't mention what sort of macaroons you needed, coconut, almond, pecan, etc., so here's my favorite almond macaroon recipe, just in case.
Almond Macaroons
1 Cup Almond Paste
1 Cup Sugar
3 large egg whites
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/3 Cup Powdered Sugar
1/8 teaspoon Salt
Blend the Almond Paste and Sugar. Add other ingredients in the order given. Blend. Drop the dough by rounded teaspoons onto parchment paper or foil lined cookie sheets, one inch apart. Bake 325 degrees 20-25 minutes, til light golden brown. Do not over bake.

Well Peeps, thanks for the thread. It sounds as though Joyous has been on the same search as me! the recipe from Charlie sounds a little closer to what I was looking for. I had tried the CL cookies and while they were good, they were not quite what I was looking for.
And Little Bit I am definitely going to try the Almond Macaroons. I actually have never heard of them (coconut only). But I have two very large bags of Almonds just waiting for a project. Yum Yum.

Hi akairo,
The almond variety are well worth trying. They're my favorite cookie ever. Very chewy and rich. There are lots of recipes calling for ground up almond macaroons that are wonderful too, but the challenge for me is stifling the urge to eat them all so that I have some cookies left over to grind for other uses. :o
One of my favorite recipes is a blend of ground up almond macaroons soaked in sherry and blended with vanilla ice cream. (I don't have an exact recipe, but it's nice for using up the few macaroons that I actually let get stale once in a while.)

Akairo: The name of the king is DAVID, right?
500 in Roman Numerals is the letter D, 5 is the letter V, the beginning of all letters is A and the beginning of all numerals is one or I in Roman Numerals.
Keep them coming!

Bless you, Anna! This one was driving me batty! You should have seen the crazy things I had scribbled on my pad (and none of them were close to David!).
