I need some brainstorming help with a wrist issue. I like yoga and would like to keep working on pushups, etc, but I had surgery for a ganglion cyst in my wrist in June. Unfortunately, the cyst is reforming in the same place. It worsens after I do any type of partial weight-bearing exercise on my wrist. Even pushups from the kitchen counter, which has a shallower angle between wrist and surface, are worsening the problem.

I don't want to give up on yoga forever, but I can't find a solution that protects the wrists enough. I don't feel ready to move to chair-supported yoga for the next 40 years. I have considered some yoga wrist supporters that put an angled cushion on the palms, but I don't know if that would even help.

Anyone have this problem with their wrists? If so, what is your solution?

Thanks,

Alice

First off, I have no professional experience with this .... but have had wrist issues from bike riding and dips. I'd check first with the surgeon to see if they have experience with recurrence and whether it's related to particular movements.

I do dips with my wrist straight, my hand in a fist, knuckles down. I tried a push up and can do them that way although I don't need to. another way might be to hold a small dumbbell in your hand and push up gripping the dumbbell.

You'd have to try it and see if your wrist is less bothered if your hand is in more of a fist position and not spread out flat.
