I am not excited by anything at my usual haunts - Ann Taylor, Boden, AT Loft, Gap, Old Navy

Where do you like to shop for clothes - online &/or B&M?

AT is my usual go-to, since their petites typically fit me perfectly right off the rack. I am also a big fan of Banana Republic and Sundance. It's been awhile, though, since I've bought "regular" clothes. :o

AT and AT Loft have been very un-inspiring to me this year. I do still like Banana Republic and White House Black Market. Also love JCrew and Athropologie.
As far as instore vs online. I do both and sometimes have better luck w/ smaller sizes online.

Land's End for sweaters.

J. C. Penney for jeans.

Dillard's for dress up clothing -- suits and dresses.

I've been very disappointed in GAP these last few years. It seems the clothing is definitely designed for teens --- wrinkly, sloppy fit that just isn't appropriate at my age. Also -- too short in the body, too long in the sleeves. :-(

I liked a few things at Loft, but I'm not quite small enough for their 14 (yet ---- won't be long)

I love the look of Ralph Lauren, but they just aren't cut right for me.

Sometimes consignment shops. Or Goodwill. We have a really good one here.

Other than that, pretty much the stores you mentioned. Maybe you could try H&M?

What, Molli, were you not breathless with my weekend shopping success? ;) :p
It seems my success is based more on what's in style than anything. Ie, if it's a style I like and suits my shape, I can find something in many places. If not, there's scarcely a store in North America that will have anything for me.

That's funny; I've found that while they've definitely abandoned the "basics" look they started with, all the pants are a sort of odd fake business casual look. I ran in a few weeks ago hoping for a pair of black khakis but everything was styled like suit pants...only kind of cheap looking. So they failed on two fronts IMO. That store is kind of unpredictable, I think.

Eva, a Sundance store opened here about a year ago, and if I had my former, slim, self I would shop there all the time! I love the cuts and fabrics and the way their stuff isn't trendy but also not out of left field (Chico's?!).

Always on-line...my favorite haunts are coldwatercreek.com and specific designers when on sale or last clicks at HSN.com (Diane Gilman, IMAN, French Postcards, Randolph Duke), or QVC.com (Mark Bouwer, George Simonton, Denin & Co, Chloe Dao, Motto, Sport Savy)...as you can see....I hate shopping but am addicted to surfing the web:D

Not much help, I have the same problem. I've been a Talbot's shopper for years and do like the quality of their clothes. I shop sales, which they have constantly, and find the clothes last for years.

Lately I've been buying a lot of AT and AT Loft, for the same reasons as Eva. Their petite sizes fit me right off the rack and the styles are a little younger. I bought a few tops at BR which I wore ALL summer! But I think AT and BR's quality is not that great.

I stopped in a J Crew and loved their stuff, but it's pricey. I'll watch for sales.

My favorites are JCrew and Anthropologie but the prices are ridiculous so I have to wait for sales.
I recently ordered from Boden but had to send the stuff back-haven't quite figured out the UK sizing.

I've never invested much in my wardrobe and am not afraid to say I've bought items from Walmart/Kmart/Target before. I feel very overwhelmed with the size of the major department stores Belks/JC Pennys/Macy's and avoid shopping there. There is a smaller chain on this side of the country called Cato's that I really enjoy shopping at - reasonable prices, smaller store but a good selection. BUT, the last time I went in there I felt like their designs were going in a different direction than they used to be and wasn't exactly thrilled about that.

And I wear Tall/Long pants which is hard to find in those stores anyways - so I buy a lot of my pants at Chadwicks.com, and have found some good deals at the J C Penny Online Outlet.

I don't think any of this is up your alley, but I wanted to add that I've looked at the Coldwater Creek website and I did see several things I really liked on there, but it was more expensive than I am used to spending.

I go through periods where I love Garnet Hill. They are online only, but check them out...

<gasp!> And you didn't tell me this before I came to town in August????? Oh wait, I wasn't buying regular clothes. :( Still, I had no idea they even had brick & mortar stores. Soooooo jealous.

Some of their stuff is a little too "country bumpkin" for me, but a lot of their basic, rugged-type stuff is perfect. I've picked up some great cargo pants, cords, and tees from them, and a fabulous gray cashmere hoodie that I love. Their stuff is expensive, but you can get some great deals through their online outlet.

I had been a faithful J.Jill girl for years...but the shine has left the rose for me. I do like to pick up a couple of trendy pieces at the Gap each season but I agree that Garnet Hill is the cream of the crop! Beautiful clothes- the only problem I have is deciding what to buy...

I do most of my clothes shopping at Kohl's & Penney's. I pretty much live in jeans & t-shirts so I really can't justify spending big bucks on something from Lord & Taylor that I'll probably spill something on while I'm cooking dinner.

Lately, I've good luck at Dress Barn when I do need something to wear other than the "daily uniform". And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Sam's Club... I got a cute pair of Oscar de la Renta PJ's there last week for only $17!!! You never know what kind of treasures you'll find at Sam's!!!

Always on-line...

It always blows my mind that people can actually order online and receive clothes that fit! I can try on three sizes each of 20 garments from 4 stores and not one will fit me. I used to think it was because I was tall and slim, and thus out of proportion. Then I gained a ton of weight and it's worse than ever. I would *love* to be able to buy things out of catalogues!

If it helps, by "here" I'm stretching things about 12 miles - it's in Marin, so a jaunt across the bridge is required! But it's across from the Apple store, so I was a frequent gawker until I actually tried on some stuff and left nearly in tears. I hear ya on the cutesy "country bumpkin" look, but the rest of it I really like. Nice store, too. Huh, I'm going to be there tomorrow - maybe worth another look around.

I had been a faithful J.Jill girl for years...but the shine has left the rose for me.

J. Jill was the first store I found that really "got" the line between too young and too frumpy, something that seems unnecessarily difficult for designers and marketers to wrap their minds around. But sure enough, a year+ ago I noticed that I was breezing in and out of there in no time, not so much as trying anything on.
I never know whether they've changed look/strategy or whether it's me.

I'm another faithful AT AT/Loft person who is just not happy with their current selection and it does seem the quality of their knits have gone down.

I've been finding luck at Nordstrom and Lord and Taylor but I have to wander the entire store to find things. I do like White House/Black Market for fun going out things.

Somehow I always end up at Kohl's for jeans. LOL.

Strangely I just found long sleeve tshirts at Walmart. I was there for night lights, a display caught my eye and I figured what the heck as I've had NO luck finding basic ones that fit - they fit perfect and are super comfy. And at I think $6 a piece you can't beat 'em! Who knew?
