Hey, I get to start this week? Considering how much of a lurker I've been of late, it just doesn't seem right.

Les - Good luck with the implant proceedings. I had one last year and it's not as bad as you'd think. Hang in there though. I don't like dental anything.

Susan - Your Bode outing sounds fun. I need to get Sadie out soon. I think she'd love the wind we've been having. About taking her on the bike, I find that if I hook the leash to the main part of the bike (not the handlebars or just in my hand), she can't pull me over or even disrupt my pedaling too much. As long as there's a definite path (like on the bike trail) she stays right with me. She veers on open stretches.

Gee, what's on the agenda for me? Oh, I don't know...a TM run? Yep. That's it. I did a weight walk/band workout yesterday. So I'm up to see what the ladies on the View have to say today.

Any good Halloween plans? We have Harvest Night at the elementary school, followed by an adults-only costume party this evening. Tomorrow is a soccer game and, of course, trick or treating in the neighborhood. What do you guys have planned?

Is that an "adult-costume" party? Or a party for adults? ;-) Could be creative!

I shoulda ran today, but didn't. The weather has been cruddy until right now. And, heck, it's just about happy hour in these parts :-)

DH & I are headed to Target, BB&B, then dinner. How's that for exciting plans, TKay? And we don't even have kids!

My running club's group run last night was in costume, so I was really looking forward to that. But, the weather was bad, so I ran earlier in the day when there was a clear spot. Bummer. I'm sure they still had the run, but I don't do rain if I can avoid it.

Thanks for kicking off the week. What will the kids dress up as for Halloween? And what about you & DH for your party?

...from the fog...

Luckily today was an off day from school. :( I'm doing relatively well after the festivities from this morning. Of course, most of the day is a wash. One Vicodin and I'm out. Slept (that's probably high on my dentist's list) for about 4 hours this afternoon - hopefully I'll sleep tonight (shouldn't be a problem).

I'm going to try and get out tomorrow for a run or ride depending on whether I still feel like I've been kicked in the jaw.

Happy trails,
Les

Hi runners! Wow, quiet weekend around these parts. I'm checking in with my race report.

What a fantastic day! This is really one of my favorite races each year. It was a perfect autumn day. Crisp, clear & about 45 degrees (yes, TKay, that's perfect ;-) DH came with me to this one for the first time. We had several friends there, too. Only about 200 people, so very cozy family-run feel. Instead of tshirts, everyone got a big jug of local maple syrup :-) Post race treats were homemade soup, hot peppermint tea, and a ton of homemade cookies.

The race was fab for me. I took 2 minutes off of my time from last year. I was in better shape last year, but it was bitter cold & much muddier. DH actually tripped & fell twice. One must have been quite dramatic as 2 people commented on it after the race. He thinks he may have broken his big toe. Argh! Not much you can do to speed that recovery.

My big news of the day is that I won the raffle for a free pair of Montrail trail running shoes! They called my name & I couldn't believe it! DH just bought me a pair a few months ago, so I'm bestowing my coupon on to him. He says I shouldn't since I won it. But, I can't think of a better prize that both of us being able to run together on the trails in new good-quality shoes, can you??

Les - Hope your recovery is going smoothly! I remember my implant surgery quite well. Hold off from getting your heart rate up for a while. You'll thank yourself for the healthy healing

Quick fly by. Good job Susan and congratulatinos on winning the shoes. I hope that DH didn't break his toe. I think it's great that you're going to share the winnings with him.

I'm taking it easy, limited myself to a ride to test out my new seat post (road bike - yes the one I broke in June). Then 3 hours of class. Now trying to unwind and go to bed.

Getting better every day... Happy trails,
Les

Back to back but this headline peaked my interest this morning:

L. A. Doctor Convicted of Assault in Bike Crash (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33594280/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts/).

Hopefully a precedent will be set.

Have a great Tuesday,
Les

Les - Thanks for the article link. I commented on the OS bb. Glad you're recovering--here's to things speeding along.

Susan - Great race report! Sorry about dh's toe, though. Ouch. I agree that it was generous of you to share the spoils with dh, but you are right. It will be nice to run those trails together. For the record, the party was a costume shindig for adults. ;) Dh was a shark-bitten snorkler and I was a medieval something or other. I used an old costume, feeling uninspired this year. For trick or treating, ds #1 was a mummy and ds #2 was a Bakugan Brawler. Don't ask. I think too many people knew what he was either.

I took the weekend off from any official workouts, but I'm getting in my five days during the week. A sluggish TM run yesterday followed by a weight walk and band workout today. I'm adding some glute work too.

Hope everyone else is busy enjoying life. It's a quiet thread so far.

Hi, Tkay! Ok, I won't ask, but I will wonder.... :D Way to go with 5 days a week. You rock!

I just got back with the weights recently myself. I can tell I'm starting over, because I am sore the day after (all both times I've done them!).

Got out for a run twice since Friday, and it was nice to be back outside. Today was beautiful, but I stuck with the TM since I had to be out the door by 1100.

Les, your article made me feel a bit sad. It's hard to understand why people treat each other that way. :(

Hope your DH's toe feels better soon, Susan. Glad he made it through the race OK.

Drive by... more information on the bicycling incident.

This article (http://www.velonews.com/article/99800/) tells the rest of the story - the doctor was convicted on all counts 6 felonies and 1 misdemeanor.

This other article (http://www.velonews.com/article/99813) is the interview with the bicyclists and part of the post-trial story.

Yesterday was an off day - busy day on campus, not with classes but meeting after meeting followed by phone-a-thon to stump for cash.

Maybe tonight.

Hi runners. I've been a slacker this week & haven't really done anything at all. We have absolutely gorgeous weather, too! I'm kind of itching to run, but the idea of doing may same ol' same ol' routes out my front door seem boring. It get in this phase about once each year.

Tonight is running club, though. So I'm looking forward to meeting up & running a new route. Too bad it will be in the dark! (darn winter sunset!)

First, I'm off to google Bakugan Brawler....

First, I'm off to google Bakugan Brawler....

You guys are cracking me up. A Bakugan Brawler is a character from a Japanese animated series, similar to Pokemon. In case you're interested, my ds was Bakugan Brawler "Dan." :D

Kathy - Okay, I lied. I'm not getting in five days this week. I completely forgot I was working up at the school early yesterday for the pancakes with pop breakfast. Missed my workout entirely. Good for you getting out to run. That's something I need to do more.

Susan - You deserve a little slacker time now and again. But I'm sure your running club will motivate you. Have fun.

Les - Thanks for the further links. I'll check them out.

TM run (of course) this morning. I went a little longer because I just didn't have any speed. My sleep's been interrupted a lot lately, so maybe I'm just tired (not that I'd ever refer to myself as "speedy"). I just seem to be lacking that oomph.

I can't believe it's already Thursday. Happy day, all.

Bad week - always hard when I'm getting started with a new schedule of classes. Maybe I'll get out for long walks this weekend since I'm headed away for a retreat with my internship parish at a retreat center in Central Virginia (www.shrinemont.com). It should be grand up there - cold (at least colder than here) but grand.

Happy trails,
Les
