EEK!
Oh my - I didn't realize until right now that it was Friday the 13th. Luckily I'm not superstitious (if you don't count my chili pepper shorts and green shirt for racing ;) ).

It has been a quiet couple weeks, at least for me, but others have been consistent (nameless).

But today was actually pretty nice. By the time I got out of class and off work it was dark but not raining. So I tromped out and ran. Nothing spectacular but 35 minutes in the bag is better than 0 minutes.

This coming week looks intersting - there may be a couple runs in the offing and I'll probably finally get my bike on the trainer. The deployment officer for my Diocese is coming up midweek - lunch meeting with the seniors and dinner meeting to include spouses and seniors should be a good time.

Here's to the middle of November and T'giving just around the corner.

Any big plans this weekend?

See you all in the funnies.
Les

I noticed that Mary posted on the previous week's thread last night so I will copy hers below.

Ok I'm a week behind but.......

Susan, I find that yoga is sometimes really good for me after a run (i.e. same day) because it will get me to really stretch out all the muscles that tighten during a run (for me: quads and soleus). Even though I may stretch before and/or after a run, the yoga is still good. Haven't really tried doing yoga BEFORE running so I can't say about that.

My 1/2 was last Sun. I did finish but the time was a bit slower than I wanted. Course that was due to the d@man huge hill at mile 9 but whatever.......... My friend was the pace bike (motorcycle) for the full marathon and my goal was to finish the half before I saw him pacing the marathon leader. That I DID accomplish (but apparently by only a few minutes).
The top marathoner finished in under 2:30 Dang, I can't even run that fast for 1 minute, let alone 26 miles. I think the first place in the 1/2 was somewhere just over an hour.

Now for me... :)

Les, I am so grateful to be able to plan my runs during daylight hours. But it is a great accomplishment to finish a whole day, then go out into the darkened streets and run! Hope that you get your bike on the trainer soon.

We have been at the lake house for a couple of days and I got in a 4.5 miler yesterday. This is perfect biking weather, but once we return home later today it will be a rush of last-minute stuff to do before closing (sale of the train station) on Wednesday. I have to meet a woman there tomorrow who is taking the last 50 or so empty binders for her Boy Scout troop, then we "only" have the big stuff to get rid of. Furniture movers arrive on Monday, and we hope to get the copiers picked up by an electronics recycler on Tuesday. I may have to go out for a run tomorrow, may be my only chance for a couple of days (but it will be in the upper 60's, so I won't mind it at all!)

Hope that you are all enjoying your weekends!

Mary - I had forgotten that you were planning to do a half marathon! Congrats! That is really fantastic. Too bad about those darn strategically placed hills! I'm always amazed at the top winner times, too, but try not to spend much time doing the math on it :-) Which race did you do, btw? I think it's too early for the Calif Intl up in Sacramento, isn't it?

Vicci - Very impressed that you're squeezing in runs amidst all of the packing & moving stuff around!

Les - I'm seriously thinking of setting up the winter bike trainer, too. Technically I can ride outside for quite a while yet. But, as boring as it is, I do like the convenience of just hopping on for 30 min, not worrying about layers, & getting in a good workout (you can all remind me of this in a month or 2 when I'm whining about the trainer :-)

Well, I had a great weekend of workouts.

Fri - ab & quad-burning power flow yoga :-)

Sat - Very fun 5K race for Girls on the Run. Not sure if any of you know this group. They focus on girls 3-8th grade, helping them learn how to be healthy, appreciate their bodies & train for a 5K race. Very cool organization. The race was sooo much fun! It's really wonderful to watch so many little girls running w/their parents, cheering for each other & getting truly excited about getting fit. Oh, and I'm really pleased with my finish time, as well. They don't do age group awards or post results, but after being in that environment, I don't care. I came in at only 20 seconds slower than my 5K PR, so am happy.

Sun - ran w/my running club. They all did an 8 mile route, but I wasn't really feeling up for that, so cut it short at 4.5 miles. Followed that up with a long hike w/DH & Bode. Fab autumn weather all weekend.

Taking today as a rest day, which is bad timing b/c I made homemade cookies & could really use the calorie-burn! Tonight is a planning mtg for my cycling club.

I'll stop chatting now :-) Hope everyone had great weekends. Where the heck is Robyn??

ride by... no kidding, it was 68 today so I skipped out of campus early before my night class, rode for 60+ on the skinny tire bike outside, and had a blast. Thank goodness for indian summer.

See you on the 'morrow,
Les

Minutes - certainly don't have time with school to do miles during the week unless it's in a car.

Hi all.
Vicki - Thanks for putting Mary's post on this week's thread. I would have missed it otherwise. Sometimes I find that even when I am exceptionally busy (as you are with the train station sale/move), working out actually helps me find more energy. I'm assuming that's how it is for you too? Good going on staying consistent.

Mary - Wow! Great job on the half. I guess the key during races is just to focus on yourself and your own pace. I'd never finish anything if I compared myself to those who whiz by!

Susan - That yoga class sounds fantastic. What did you decide about balancing your yoga/run schedule?

Les - Ah, 60 minutes...60 miles. Who's counting? The point is, you enjoyed it. :D

I took time off Sat and Sun since I was utterly wiped out from all of our commitments last week. I am happy to report that I kept consistent through all of it though. I'm back at it so far this week and feeling pretty good. I can't believe it's almost T-day. I better get planning.

Happy Tuesday, runnahs.

TKay - Susan brought it up not me. :D Glad you had a little rest this weekend (not here). Getting ready for T'giving - not so much. A bunch of us from school who aren't going out of town are getting together. So far we're 9 and I'm bringing spuds - maybe some fine garlic spuds. We'll have to see...
Susan - I haven't seen Robyn around here recently - FB sure but not here. It sounds like you've found a great yoga place. Maybe when I get out of DC and back to the real working world I can get back to all the good cross training stuff.

A shout out to the gang... I ran again tonight. Short run after dark but still nice. Cool but I'm still able to run in short sleeves and shorts - as long as I don't stop long. It was 50 tonight and ran for 33 minutes. Interestingly, I ran the same circuit in the other direction the other day and it was just over 35 minutes. Go figure.

Studies have to happen, didn't get much academic work done today since I was renewing my psych stuff in preparation for ordination (in May or June). Took the MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) and the MCMI-III (Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-III) tests. I'm glad the tests are done too - ~4-5 hours to complete them.

Happy trails,
Les

Les - I'm impressed with all of the cycling & running you do with a full school schedule. Good for the mind, body & soul, no doubt!

Tkay - Busy is good, right? I just realized I need to start making my Tday grocery list. We still aren't sure if the IL's are coming or not. Grrr. DH has made it clear that I need to stop asking him. He's right on one thing....we'll probably have the same amount of food either way. Doh!

Mon was a rest day. Tues I went to a yoga class. It's the first one at this studio that didn't really trip my trigger. But, I knew that was a risk w/the class name "Yoga Essentials." I figure I need to keep trying all of them to see which class & instructor I like best. But, I'm now past the trial membership phase & have to start paying full price per class. So I will be much more selective now. And also need to do some of my own work at home. Oi - discipline! Not my strong suit.

Today will also be a rest day due to rain and schedules. I have cooking club tonight, which means early Tday dinner! I love it. I'm making the Tyler Forence homemade green bean casserole posted by Canice. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Les - Ordination? For reals? I realize it's still some months off, but to think it's actually on the agenda now. Wow. I'm also impressed with how you keep at it, busy as you are.

Susan - Ooh, an early T-day dinner? Sounds lovely. I will have to check out Tyler's green bean recipe. Always looking for new ways to serve the veggies.

Turns out we may host the big day this year. We were invited to my in-laws' in-laws' place (if that makes sense). But dh and I have a hankering to keep it low-key and cook a turkey of our own. Some family members may come, but it's tricky to not offend people. The boys have all next week off school, so I'm sure there will be some matinees and bike rides in my future. Better check on that Turkey Trot too!

Really? Back-to-backs for me? Not a lot of intrigue over here. Another TM run/walk/band/lunge workout today. It felt good. I've been having this nose/throat irritation. I can't figure out if it's allergies or a cold that's threatening. I just keep moving forward, hoping it's the former. (Hands over ears) "Lalalalala!"

Hope you're all out having so much fun that you don't have time to update. :)
