Please let me know if there is anyone interested in starting a supper club in the greater Milwaukee area...the recipes from this month looked too good not to at least ask! colleen

Hello Collie,

I've been a CL subscriber for about 9 years, and I think participating in a supper club would be fun!

I love to cook, but in the past 3.5 years (since my daughter was born) I've not done as much as before. This would give me a chance, once in awhile, to focus on cooking and conversation.

I live in Menomonee Falls, where are you? Have you heard of anyone else who might be interested?

Kim

I'm in Pewaukee, I would be interested in joining a club.

I am in Germantown and am looking for an opportunity to cook with others! I have been a subscriber to Cooking Light for years and just LOVE what comes out of the magazine!

I am in Sheboygan, but I would like to join. I have only been in Wisconsin for 6 months. I moved here from Michigan.

I had posted another message just after yours Collie looking for a club in the Milwaukee area. Sounds like there might be a few of us interested in this area. Does anybody have any experience with this to know what to do next?!

Here is the suggestion from the site-

Hold your first meeting on neutral ground. Gathering at a restaurant, for example, lets all members concentrate on getting to know one another.

Take a little time at that first meeting to agree on your club's basic structure. Will you rotate houses and have potlucks? Or will you cook all or some of each meal together? Remember to exchange contact information.

I'm free most nights except for Tuesdays. Maybe we could meet at a central location, bring our calendars and discuss how we want to proceed.

We have interested members from Milwaukee, Sheboygan, Pewaukee, Germantown and Menomonee Falls so far. How about an inintial meeting on Thursday, September 20 at 7 p.m. at Appleby's or Panerra at Mayfair Mall?

Feel free to suggest other centrally located bar or restaurant. Colleen

That date and time work for me. I love Panera (they have the best white chicken chili and sourdough rolls). Applebee's is fine too if people want to meet for a drink.

Sounds good, Panera 9/20 @ 7pm. FYI, that is NBC premier week (I'm a must-see TV Thursday fan). Set your VCRs before heading out for the night!

I am out of town that entire week (California)... would anybody be interested in the week before or after? If that does not work... I'll join for the next one.

I too, am a huge "must see TV" fan... for sure that VCR will be set up!

I'm able to meet the week before or after.

Well.... I am getting married in April so I have tons of stuff going on that I have to work around. I am free the 20th and also the Thursday before(9/13) and after(9/27). Wednesdays are really bad for me since we have to meet with the pastor on that day. Most of the plans are made already, but some still need to be made.:) The only question I have is how will we know who each other is?

kjl

9/13 or 9/27 are not good for me ... 9/20 is still fine, or any Thursday in October.

How about the 24th or 25th of Sept. (Monday or Tuesday)? Then we won't interfere with Must see TV or SALK's meeting with the Pastor!

As far as how we will know one another... One of us can wear something unique like a straw hat, and all watch for that person... or we could all wear straw hats and people would really stare at us!:)

just for fun... what was the last thing you made from Cooking Light?

9/24 & 9/25 do not work for me. Thursdays in October, anyone, anyone?

The latest thing I made, and one of my favorites, is Chicken Fricasse with Orzo from the April 2000 issue. The sauce is delicious, and it is an "everything's included" meal - chicken, carrots, orzo (pasta). So I don't make any side dishes. Mmmm good!

My parents were always in Supper Clubs in the different neighborhoods we lived in. I'd love to be a part of one in this area. What date did you decide to meet?

luvtoocook
09-07-2001, 07:28 AM
Since most of us are free to meet on the 20th, I think we should keep that date. I would be willing to meet with sbfeltz before our meeting to get input or after our meeting to give a summary of what we discussed. I do like the straw hat idea or we could all be wearing a flower in our hair.

Just a thought,
Jane

I thought I saw a post where Collie decided the 27th was better. I'm flexible.

How about the first Thursday in October, the 4th...

If that does not work, go for the 20th, it seems I am the only one with a conflict.

Collie I see you posted a seperate messaage, are you still with us?

10/4 is a good date for me. If that is not good for others, then let's just stick with the first suggestion of 9/20.

Would everyone reply if 10/4 is a go, or stick with 9/20. We'll tally the votes, and make a decision!

HI guys - I'm not sure why I went under separate cover, but I am definitely still in. I'm un available on 10/4, so let's meet at Panera at 7 p.m. on 9.20 and then we'll bring SBFeltz up to speed after we sort through all of the details. It's like one big blind date! I'll be sitting outside on the bench with my CL mag in my hands!! Colleen

Hi Collie (and anyone else out there!)
I would be very interested in helping start and be a part of a Milwaukee area Supper Club. I've been reading about the idea and am very intrigued! I love to cook, but don't have many friends that I can get together with in the area and do so. Let me know what info you may already have on the idea.

The 20th sounds good, but I am a little confused on where it is at. I moved to WI 6 months ago and I really don't know the Milwaukee area very well. I never drive there. I guess I am confused on which panera we will be meeting at. Is it in the mall?
I am not one to wear hats, except for my NC ball cap. I know I am a trader in this wonderful state of football, but I have always been a bigger soccer fan than football. I will see you guys there.

I'm looking forward to meeting all of you on the 20th. I'm not sure exactly where it is either. I thought I would take a drive out there ahead of time to find it. I will let you know if I find out.

I live about 1.5 miles from Mayfair Mall....bearing construction issues, the following directions should be relatively accurate. Note, the accurate exit to take is North Avenue West, but it has been closed for quite a while .

Use whatever means is easiest to get on I-45 and take this to the Burleigh exit (Burleigh is north of I-94). Go east on Burleigh to HWY 100 (or Mayfair Road). Take a right onto Mayfair Road (you're going South) and within 1/2 mile Mayfair Mall will be on your left. Panera is on the outside of the mall, just down from Marshall Field's.

SALK, take I-43 South to Good Hope Road West. Good Hope Road will connect with I-45 on or around 107th Street.

Jane, take I-94 West to HWY-45 and go north and folllow the above directions.

Hope this helps.

What was I thinking? Ignore what I said about North Avenue West...it's still closed, but it's also the wrong one! Stick with Burleigh

Panera is a great casual restaurant with a bakery and coffee area so don't eat before hand! I would suggest we bring the following items to the meeting....#1 your daytimer/calendar #2 paper and pen, #3 your pertinent info to contribute to a master list. and #4 lots of ideas! i'm really looking forward to this! colleen

I leave for out of town in a few days... How will I catch up with you guys, since I will be missing the first meeting? Will you communicate through thses posts or just by email? My email is SBFeltz@yahoo.com - if someone can fill me in. As we are planning the days to meet, Wednesdays are bad for me - anything else should work and I would be happy to host.

Have fun and let me know

Hi Sbfeltz,

I'm sure we'll create a list of all our names, emails, etc. at this first meeting. We'll add you to the list, with your email address, so we can update you on the first meeting.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Panera tonight at 7. I am teaching a pinning class before hand so I may have my hair up in some spazzy new 'do', but i am wearing a black dress. I forgot my magazines at home if someone could bring September and October for ideas that would be great! See you then! Colleen

My husband won't be home tonight until 8:30 and I do not have a babysitter for my daughter, so I won't be coming to the meeting. She is 3.5 and would probably not sit too well (or enjoy herself) if she came along.

I think, because of her & other things in my life right now, I'm going to quit befoe I begin. Thanks for the idea ... I may seek you out in the future! Have fun!!
