View Full Version : Weird (?) Habit

I just got my September issue today and realized that I have this ritual when any magazines arrive. I tear of the protective cover (if applicable) then proceed to flip through and remove all those inserts, whether they're loose or attached. Only then am I able to fully enjoy my "unlittered" reading. Those things get in the way and always fall into my lap. Is this bizzare? Does anyone else do this? Is this an early sign of OCD??

I don't do this myself, but I have witnessed this ritual before.:p

I do the EXACT same thing. You're not alone.

I leave the cover on, thinking that maybe it does protect the cover. However, now I'm realizing that I flip both sheets of the protective cover onto the back of the magazine. Hmm

Also, I don't mind the blow-ins and stapled in stuff b/c I invariably use them for bookmarks. Or should it be magazine marks??:D

I do this too - it makes the magazine MINE!!!!

No magazine insert is safe with me around. I think they're annoying, and the magazine is not readable unless I've gone through it first - at least two times to make sure I've gotten them all.

My kids even do this! It's not OCD - it's removal of an annoyance!

I do that too. I cannot stand all those little cards that fly out. I do keep them for DD however. She loves to scribble on them.

Don't know if it's ''normal'' or not -- but I do it too. It really bugs me when all the little inserts fall out while I'm reading CL. But I just realized that I don't do that with other magazines. Maybe it's because CL is the only one I subscribe to that comes with an outside cover, so I just tear off that then do all the others while I'm at it?

Prozac for you all. Just kidding! The inserts don't drive me that crazy, they do serve the purpose of bookmarks. However, that cover, with advertizments, has to go for sure!!!!!!!!

I tear out the inserts, too, but usually as I'm reading the magazine the first time. As for the protective cover, I usually keep it on until I get the next magazine. This serves 2 purposes - the first is if I take it to the grocery store with me, I can "prove" it's my magazine, and not the stores. The second is that if for some reason I don't get the next month's issue, I have the mailing label that has the numbers on it (account number?) that CL can use to easily look me up and send me a new one.

Wow I am glad I am not the only one. DH just stares as i remove all those inserts and extra stuff from magazines. He could not believe it now...I can tell him I am not the only one...:)

I guess they don't bother me either way, sometimes I tear them out, more often then not I just leave them there. What really bothers me, is when my MIL or DH tears them out of MY magazine. I'm the only one allowed to do that! ;)

You're not alone: I do the same thing, too. I also tear out any ads that use the heavier stock paper (Vanity Fair has a ton of ads with this type of paper in it). My husband always gives me a strange look as well, but I just think it makes reading the magazine a bit easier!

Glad it's not just me! ;) I go into a frenzy the minute I bring in the mail and see I have magazines...no matter what arrived that day I spend 5 minutes tearing out ANY insert, stapled or not...and I HAVE to remove any perfume sample. Those things make me sneeze in the worst way, even if it's a perfume I like! I make a little pile and they go straight into the recycling bin, where my husband accuses me of trying to give his garage a 'girly' smell because of all the perfume inserts! Heck, anything's better that the aroma of Castrol 10/30!! :)

Actually, I don't think I know anyone who leaves them all in! Those people, if they even exist, would be the weird ones!
