This is for LaraW, who wanted some instructions on making layers cookie mix in a jar. I know there were others posted last year, as well as some links to other sites, but I could not find them in the archives.

Brownie Mix in a Jar

2 cups sugar
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 cup chopped pecans
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

Mix together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Layer ingredients in a 1 quart "wide mouth" canning jar. Press each layer firmly in place before adding the flour mixture. NOTE: Be sure to wipe out the inside of the jar with a dry paper towel after adding the cocoa powder.

Instructions to attach to jar:
Brownie Mix in a Jar
1. Empty jar of brownie mix into a large mixing bowl. Use your hands to thoroughly blend mix.
2. Add 3/4 cup butter or margarine melted. DO NOT USE DIET MARGARINE. Add 4 eggs, slightly beaten.
3. Mix until completely blended.
4. Spread batter into a sprayed 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
5. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 minutes. Cool completely in pan. Cut into 2 inch squares. Makes 2 dozen Brownies.

Cranberry Hootey Creek Cookie Mix

5/8 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup white sugar
1/2 cup dried cranberries
1/2 cup white chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Layer the ingredients in a 1 quart or 1 liter jar, in the order listed. Attach a tag with the following instructions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a cookie sheet or line with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, cream together 1/2 cup softened butter or margarine, 1 egg, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla until fluffy. Add the entire jar of ingredients and mix together by hand until well blended. Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto the prepared baking sheets. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until edges start to brown. Cool on baking sheets or remove to cool on wire racks.

Yield:

1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Mix the salt and baking soda in with the flour, then layer the ingredients into the jar. Use scissors to cut a 9 inch-diameter circle from calico. Place over lid and secure with rubber band. Tie on a raffia or ribbon bow to cover rubber band.

Here is a link to a sight I've used in the past: http://cookierecipe.allrecipes.com/directory/571.asp Towards the top, it says "narrow your choices" and you can get more recipes specifically for brownies, cookies or cake mixes in a jar. Hope that helps!
